Her brother's life in danger

Anamika stepped forward but those dead eyes staring back at her didn't let her take another step forward. She could only watch as Amelia walked further and further away like a soulless puppet until she entered an elevator door.

Confusion laced Anamika's face as she stood there wondering what happened to Amelia. Just then, the door in front of her burst open, revealing a young and handsome man. But he was a tad less handsome than the stranger she slept with. He was Cullen Walkers.

"What are you still doing here? I told you I don't ever want to see you anywhere around me!"

Anamika jolted. She had admired him to the extent she forgot her place for a moment. His icy tone was a dead giveaway that he was very furious with Amelia. No wonder Amelia was like that. Did he realize that Amelia is not a virgin?

But what Anamika didn't understand was, why would Amelia go to see Cullen when she hadn't called her to come over? Also, it was just a few seconds after 6.

If the plan had worked, Amelia was supposed to have come into Cullen's room around 6:30 this morning, then switched places with Anamika. Why the rush?

"Amelia!"

Anamika looked up at his face and saw him smirking as he took a few steps toward her. He shoved her back against the wall, trapping her in the middle and blocking her escape route.

Then he lowered his head to the crook of her neck. She could feel his hot breath against her skin, reminding her of that stranger.

"You thought you were smart, but you and your mother aren't worthy to scheme against me. I told you before and I'll say it again, you and your mother shall regret ever trying to mess with me!"

He stared into her eyes, probably searching for something before he chuckled, "You're no longer sad or scared, interesting–" his phone rang, interrupting his words.

Goodness, gracious! Anamika let out the breath she had been holding. It felt like she was suffocating.

He picked up the call and exchanged a few words with the other person, "Oh, then that's better…You didn't fail completely... You said he dragged a lady into his room last night? Interesting. Did you see her face?... No? Then search the CCTV footage and look for that lady!... Also, keep an eye on him and let me know what he’s up to.” he then glanced back at Anamika one last time before walking away.

With only Anamika left in the corridor, the suffocating air evaporated and she could breathe well again. She had never met anyone from the Walkers' family before and had no idea they were this domineering.

Anamika knew she needed to go explain things to Amelia rather than standing there, but what and how was she supposed to explain such a mistake when she herself had no idea how it happened?

On her way to Amelia's house, her phone rang. She rummaged through her handbag and brought out her phone to see it was a call from the nurse who she placed in charge of her brother at the hospital.

"Hello, nurse Beth," she didn't finish before she was cut off.

"Where are you? Hurry down to the hospital, immediately!"

The urgency in the nurse's tone was something Anamika wouldn't dare to take lightly, so she instructed the cab driver to make a beeline for the hospital.

Arriving at the hospital, Anamika dashed in without much thinking. On getting there, her mom and sister were already sitting on the long seats in the waiting area. Without saying a word to them, Anamika went into the doctor's office.

"Doctor, how is my brother?" Those were the words that jumped out of her throat as her heartbeat competed with the speed of a car.

"Miss Brooks, please have a seat." He gestured to the seat in front of his desk.

Anamika complied, waiting nervously for what was to come next.

"Your brother was showing a sign of perseverance over the past three months and was responding well to treatment. However, this morning, he suddenly got into a shock after the nurse gave him his morning dose–"

"In other words!" Anamika had no time for medical jargon and wasn't ready to waste time listening to them.

"His brain tumor needs to be removed as soon as possible, otherwise it will be too dangerous."

Anamika shut the pain in her eyes behind her eyelids and balled her trembling hands in tight fists. She knew this day would come but she never expected it to be this soon.

"Doctor, I've managed to get $10,000, I promise I'll get the remaining balance in no time, please can you start the operation?"

The unfeeling man only looked at her and smiled. "Miss Brooks, you're familiar with how things work, don't you? The rules of the hospital weren't set by me. Even if it's my daughter's operation, I'll have to pay the medical expenses first before I can be allowed to work on her, so I'm sorry, Miss Brooks."

Anamika wasn't surprised to hear those words. She had begged them before to work on her brother but the same rules were quoted to her.

"I understand, but please don't neglect him, I'll come up with the money today, please."

The doctor nodded and watched her leave.

Anamika knew she was lying. Where would she get $16,000 within the space of a few hours? It took her years to gather the $10,000 she has.

The only place she can get that much amount of money was from the Wales family; Amelia and her mother. But with what had happened, Anamika doubted if they would help her.

Wales residence…

The white luxurious mansion seemed normal as Anamika walked through the path to the main door. The servants greeted her like they used to. The atmosphere around the house didn't change a bit, which left her wondering if Amelia hadn't returned home.

Amelia is the only child of Wales' family and was spoiled rotten by her domineering mother.

As she entered the stylish and massive living room that she was more than familiar with, Anamika spotted Amelia's mother sitting on her favorite cream-colored couch.

She trod to the middle-aged woman with her heart jumping to her throat. Before words could be said, Anamika went on her knees.

"Ma, I made a terrible mistake," she said with her hands clutching her dress.
