Chapter 2

{Mikai's POV}

Damn! The man's weight had almost cut off all the thousands of veins in my body. Who could not be? He was probably 6'4 ft. tall with a broad chest and solid body like steel. Good thing I was naturally born a fighter - being used to lifting weights at a very young age. Could not believe it comes in handy when I carried and walked him starting from his spot a few kilometres to the entrance.

The golf course should have been closed that day to make sure it will be exclusively available for the new President's arrival. But I already reported the incident to the cops. Perhaps the man was simply an avid fan of the President or was there to steal. He even had the guts to wear expensive clothes to make sure no one would suspect him.

Good thing those canines made sure the man could not steal anything in the golf course. Because if that happens, I'd probably be doomed. My job in the most prestigious company might be at risk of recklessly failing the task given to me.

As soon as the man was picked up by the ambulance and rushed to the hospital, I went back to the golf course to double-check nothing was lost. After securing the place, I went back to our simple abode to remove the blood that stained my hands.

My name is Madison Garfield. But my family and friends used to call me "Mikai". I'm turning twenty-five in a week. There's nothing special about me, really. I did not consider myself a lucky one because, in my twenty-five years of existence, I am still daydreaming about my ultimate crush who happens to be my best friend.

The worst part is that no other men dares showed interest in me. Not even one. Because if that happens, I'd be the one to make the first move. I don't wanna die a virgin as my friends keep teasing me. They told me I have a gorgeous lovable face but I'm not sure if I'd be fool enough to believe them.

Aside from pursuing my dreams of getting a decent job, I divided my sole time working full time as a food researcher in one of Mr Fisher's companies in the city. Well, maybe, I am not lucky with my love life but I am luckier when it comes to food discoveries. That was one of the reasons the company guaranteed me to have a decent position in the company in the near future.

"Mikai? I saw you rushing into your room. Get out." says my older brother, Michael, in a harsh tone. He knocked on the door by force to get me annoyed. But he does that intentionally for him to search all the corners of the room if I am hiding my salary and savings he plans to use to buy liquors.

He has been doing that most of the time since our fried chicken store was built. He's one of the reasons our business did not bloom. Every time he is always home, two options can be chosen. It's either he's drunk or furious. But little did he know, I spent every penny I have on school fees and helped mum pay our monthly bills in the house. Still, it's not enough.

Despite being like that, mum and dad still love and understand him because I let them be. There are only four of us. Michael is part of the family. And I believe that deep inside his pessimistic heart, lies a loving and caring brother.

But the one thing that I hated him the most is that he always encourage me to go on a blind date. He doesn't care if my date is wicked, old, too young, or people with disabilities, as long as they have tons of money. Money. Money. It's all that matters to him.

I don't want to force my heart to love someone just because the family badly needs one to lift us up from deprivation. Every little thing always has its day. I can wait for my knight in shining armour to show up on our doorstep one day. No matter how long it takes.

"I have something for your birthday, Mikai. Why not open the door so you could see the gift?" he eagerly added.

Because of too much excitement, I rushed to the door and opened it. When I got the chance to see Michael, indeed, he had something in his hands. A shopping bag. He then tossed it to me before he began reading my room.

He could barely see a penny in my room at the moment because I'm already broke till the end of the month. Lucky if my salary could reach the tenth of every month when since the first day, bills are on their way to collect me.

While Michael was busy digging into my room, the joy that I felt in my heart was priceless. I could not believe he bought me a gorgeous dress probably worth a thousand dollars. That was the first time he bought me something expensive.

Well, I forgot that was also the first time he had something on my birthday. Michael may be ruthless most of the time, nevertheless, I love my family always and forever. They were the reason I strived more day by day.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!" Michael continuously utters profanity as expected when he sees nothing in the room. He thus leapt back to the door and displayed his blazing fury at me.

"Brother Michael, thanks for the gift. I love the dress so much." I was about to wrap my arms around him but he elbowed me, Avoiding being touched.

"Yeah. That's good to know. But you are going to pay me for that. God damn it, Mikai." Michael's voice suddenly changed. The kind of tone that was blaming me for everything that happened to our lives. Deprivation swallowed our once happy family.

Because of too much irritation, he lifted his right hand, giving me the resemblance that he is about to slap me. I don't want to give rise to further conflict between us, so, I simply closed my eyes with my tears dripping to my cheeks. Five seconds later, I was surprised when the slap did not land on my face.

Though I heard a short moan from someone standing beside me. I gradually opened my eyes and was startled when it was dad holding Michael's hand.

"Shit. Why can you just force yourself to marry someone rich to end this bad luck once and for all." Michael gritted his teeth with his sharp and swollen eyes pointed at me. Then, he went out of the house in a rush.

At first, I thought dad is helping me out that night but he was only protecting me from getting slapped. Though they have one thing in common. Dad was worse than Michael. Michael hurts me physically but dad's words cut deep into my heart. Emotionally hurt was more painful than getting a hard slap.

Since that night, their words lingered in my heart and brain. Even during my working hours, all I could hear and think was my dad and Michael's advice that I should marry someone rich that could help us keep things in order.

Three days later.

"You look terrible. Is everything all right, Mikai?" Divina, our branch manager, appeared behind me. Despite our gap positions in the company, she was the kind of manager who treated all her subordinates equally.

Well. There are only five of us in the branch office. I think it will be a bit chaotic if she will not treat us fairly. Overall, Ms Divine is a one-of-a-kind manager compared to the rest of the branches.

Then, I immediately straightened my seats and behaved as if I'm a bit busy. "Yeah. I'm fine, Ms Divina." To make it more convincing, I displayed an ear-to-ear smile at her.

Divina heaved a sigh. She suddenly leaned the tip of her elbows on my desk and supported her face with her hands, staring at me straight into my eyes. "How come staring at the screen of your computer for two straight hours is fine? I bet I know the answer to that. You're getting married, aren't you?"

"What? No. I mean, my entire family are forcing me to find someone rich but the hell, where could I find that guy when I am already shoving myself between work and school?" Could not believe even our manager would support my family when in the first place, we haven't heard of her having a husband or even a boyfriend.

"Speaking of fucking rich. The chairman's grandson who is the new president of Fisher Grand Inc. will hold his inauguration on the seventh floor of this building. Can you attend on my behalf?"

"Me? Why?"

"Come on, Mikai. The president is a young businessman. Perhaps the inauguration will not last half an hour. He'll announce this, like that. And then exit. So, instead of staring at the screen, unproductive, get your butts off of that chair and go to the seventh floor. You still have five minutes before it starts."

To make sure I will leave no choice, Divina grabbed my hands and dragged me out of the office. Then she shooed me to the nearest elevator. I was supposed to say no when I have a more important job to do on my desk but our team must have at least one representative at the inauguration.

Moreover, I also wanted to finally meet the new president in person to know if the rumours about him were true. When I checked on my wristwatch, I only have one more minute before the inauguration commenced.

As soon as the door of the elevator dinged, I rushed to the entrance of the session hall when my body accidentally bumped into someone who was also in a rush in getting to the door. Hard enough our bodied bumped into the door and was opened widely.

"Let's all welcome, Mr Nicholae Fisher. President of Fisher Grand Incorporated!" says the man inside the session hall, followed by boisterous applause.

Accidentally speaking, I gripped the man's tuxedo with force to make sure my body will not fall to the floor. Sadly, who could have thought my grasp was tight enough to tear off his clothes? But my body is already reaching the floor, so, I reached into his slacks and got the chance to hold his belt.

As a result, my body fell on top of him with our lips being rubbed each other. When I could hear a few shuttering sounds of cameras all over the session hall, I moved out of the man's half-naked body and rushed to the corner covering my face with my bare hands.

All the security guards also rushed to the man and helped him up. They surrounded him to make sure no one could see his naked body. At first, I thought they are going to get him out of the session hall but surprisingly, the man marched to centre stage with full confidence.

Shit. Despite the worn-out clothes, he marched like a gorgeous model who was very lucky to have those towering billboards we could see everywhere as though he was promoting something. - his well manly built appearance.

When he reached the centre part of the podium, his slacks dropped off to the floor, giving him nothing in his body aside from his plain black boxer shorts.

Then, he grabbed the microphone from the emcee and announced, "let's start the inauguration, shall we?" Out of the thousands who attended the event, his sharp eyes were pointed at me.

Wait. What? The man whom I just bumped into, embarrassed in front of everyone, and chose to ignore as if nothing happened is Mr Nicholae Fisher, President of the Fisher Grand Incorporated? And the grandson of the owner of the building I was currently working on?
