Daddy?

Izabelle’s eyes shone as a new ray of hope seemed to be in front of her. She stared at Doctor Zach in anticipation, waiting for him to say the prevention of another heart repair surgery.

“Little Rosie would always have to be cheerful always. She shouldn't cry so hard again. Rosie shouldn't have any shocks or sadness. If she gets any shocks that lead her to the hospital, I'm sorry but she might have to get another surgery. These are Rosie’s medical reports. You should show them to the doctor in the United States when you get there,” the doctor instructed, handing over a file containing little Rosie’s medical report.

“Thank you so much, doctor. I have to leave now. I have a flight in less than an hour,” standing up from her seat, she shakes hands with the doctor before walking out of the office with a grim expression on her face.

“Mommy,” Little Rosie ran to her side just as she saw her coming out of the office. Izabelle’s mood changed as she saw the little bundle of joy running to her side and she sweetly raised her into her arms.

“Did you feel bored waiting for me to come out?”

“En,” she nodded. “Are you done talking to Doctor Zach?”

“Yes. Do you know what he said?”

She strolled out of the hospital and to her car. She gently lowered Rosie onto the passenger’s seat and put her seat belt on before walking to the other side of the car and getting in.

“What did he say,”

“Hmm. Doctor Zach said Rosie must smile constantly and Rosie shouldn't cry or be sad. Will you do that for Mommy?”

“Okay. I'll only cry if mommy doesn't want me anymore and if mommy doesn't come home.”

“You should always listen to your doctor. You shouldn't cry no matter what. Hmm, Because you've been a good girl lately, I'll take you to many attractive places when we get to the United States. Do you like that?” She settled in the car and wore her seatbelt.

“Yes. Is the United States more beautiful?”

“Umm. I'm sure you're going to like it.”

Izabelle smiled and ruffled her daughter’s soft blonde hair which almost looked the same as hers. The only discrepancy was that Rosie’s hair was dark blonde and hers was light.

She drove them back to their apartment and came down from the car, rushing into the house to get their luggage which she had packed previously before going to the hospital to get Rosie. She got them into the trunk of the car and after making sure her apartment was locked and secured, she got back into the car and headed to the airport.

……

“Mommy, are there tall buildings in this country too?” Little Rosie asked as they took their belongings out of the plane. Izabelle rolled their luggage with one hand and with the other, she held the tiny palm of little Rosie.

She hummed at her daughter's question.

“Yes, baby. There are tall buildings here. Even taller than the ones back in London.”

“I can't wait to see them,” the little girl exclaimed excitedly.

Izabelle couldn't help but laugh in excitement too. It's been five years. Five good years and she would be a liar if she doesn't say that she missed this country like crazy. She couldn't wait to also see the new tall buildings with her daughter.

“What? You're sleepy? Didn't you sleep the whole flight?” She asked when Rosie rubbed her eyes and yawned sleepily.

“En. I'm still sleepy. The flight is so stressful.”

Isabelle laughed. This was typical of Rosie. She was always tired. Even when she wakes up in the morning, Rosie’s first words were about her tiredness and how kids get tired easily. Goodness! This lazy ass daughter of hers. But who was she to complain? She doesn't mind doing everything for the sweet little kid.

“Wait, wait. I have to call someone,” she brought out her phone from her bag and stopped Rosie from walking ahead into the large crowd in the airport.

“Who? Daddy?”

“What?”

“Didn't you say that daddy is out for a business trip in the united states and that's why he couldn't visit us? Since he's here, we'll see him, right?”

Izabelle didn't think that Rosie would remember her words clearly as if she said it yesterday. She had told Rosie that a year back. Who would have thought that the child would have it in her mind till now? Remembering what Doctor Zach told her about not getting the child sad, she smiled at Rosie and lied.

“Umm. Ye..yes. Daddy is in this country. He'll come to us as soon as he finishes his business, hmm.”

“Yayyy.”

She kept her smiling face and took her phone to make the call. She dialed a number and it rang twice before the person on the other side of the line answered.

“Izabelle, I'm looking for you everywhere in this airport. Didn't you say you took the last flight?” The person asked.

“Yes, Ruby. I'm on the other side of the airport. Come quickly, we're waiting. Sie Sie is sleepy.”

Too engrossed in her conversation with the person on the other line, Izabelle didn't know when little Rosie saw something that caught her fancy and followed it until she got lost and couldn't find her mother amongst the crowd. She stretched her tiny head and bent it in all directions in search of her mother.

“Mommy, mommy,” she called loudly. The little girl was starting to get scared after getting separated from her mother and her eyes glimmered in unshed tears that she refused to let out because her mother told her not to cry no matter the situation. She patiently waited for some seconds before giving way for her tears to flow freely.

Getting into the crowd, she called for her mommy desperately even though her tiny voice was swallowed by the noise at the airport.

“Hey kid, did you get lost?”
