Chapter One

The sounds of the birds chirping around the windows woke Lucy up abruptly. She quickly sat up on the bed and observed around if she could find anyone 

Last night was her wedding night, but she spent it alone

Her husband didnt have any interest in seeing her, or even spend the night with her in the same room

And the most interesting part was that her husband was a mystery. She has never set eyes on him before, and he wasnt present at the wedding either

His elder brother was made to stand in for him. Lucy didn't understand this, but her parents still forced her to go on with it

She was given this room with a king sized bed, but her husband was nowhere to be found

Lucy shaked all these thoughts out of her mind and strode into the bathroom for a shower. After that she headed downstairs for breakfast with her new family

As she descended the stairs, she bumped into one of her sister in laws unknowingly and quickly apologised "sorry...I.."

"Are you blind? Watch where you're going!" she replied coldly to Lucy and walked away angrily

Lucy glared silently at Vanessa as she ascended the stairs and sighed out helplessly. They met only yesterday, but she treats her so bitterly

Vanessa is the youngest daughter of the Green family. She controls most of the things that goes on in the mansion, a second in comand to her brother to be prescise

No one dares talk anyhow to her and steps on her toe by mistake. All the maids in the house feared her like a ghost. And her words are never turned down

She was present during the wedding, and she frowned throughout

At some point Lucy felt she wasn't in agreement to the wedding, and thought possibly she could get close to her since they both had the same motive

But guess she had it all wrong

Lucy walked downstairs to the dining table and occupied her seat beside her other sister in law "Good morning" she greeted respectfully

"Good morning Lucy. Hope you had a wonderful night?" Bella, her other sister in law asked with a wide grin

Bella is the first and eldest daughter of the Green family. Being the CEO of her own fashion company, she's liked less by her brother. And often recognised as the useless member of the family

The dream of the Greens is to thrive higher and higher. Being in the first rank of business and making money like no other on earth

Some years ago the Greens group of companies almost collapsed and burnt down into ashes. Until it was  taken up by Alexander, the eldest son of the family

Lucy smiled back at Bella and sighed out with satisfaction in her heart. Finally there was someone here to show her some love

"Alex had something very important to attend to in the company, that's why you haven't gotten the chance to meet him yet. He'll be back home tonight" Mr Stanley, Alex's uncle explained to Lucy as they ate

"Alright" Lucy nodded her head gently

She was eager to see her husband. Besides, who get married without knowing her husband or his wife? 

She just wished he wasn't the same as his younger sister. He should be a loving man, someone who will love and care for her

She has been through so much all her life. Getting no love or attention from any of her family members, Lucy wished for that love from the Greens, even if its from just a few of them

"I'll take you to your parents house today for any personal stuff you wish to take with you. So alert me after breakfast" Aaron, son of Mr Stanley spoke in a calm tone as Lucy nodded her head silently

Aaron is the only son of Stanley. He works with Alexander in the Greens company as his special assisstant

He takes over as the in charge of the company in Alex's absence. He stood in for Alex during the wedding, and always stay alert for any other command that'll come from Alexander

After breakfast, Lucy changed into something more lenghty and left the Greens mansion with Aaron.  The drive was quite and smooth. No one spoke to the other

Aaron stole glances at Lucy occasionally as he drove. He didnt look so happy with the silence so he cleared his throat slightly and asked "would you like to have coffee with me one day"

"Sure, why not?" Lucy smiled slyly with her eyes fixed outside the car window

Aaron wasnt so satisfied with Lucy's reply. so he added "right now?"

"Can you tell me something about my husband" Lucy took a short glance at Aaron and requested calmly

Aaron licked his lower lip slightly and continued driving without any reply to Lucy's request. His nose twitched slightly. And the look on his face wasnt so good

It looked like he didn't want to talk about Alexander. Or possibly he was still thinking about what exactly to tell Lucy about his brother

After a long silence, Lucy turned to look at Aaron and asked again "why didn't he show up at the wedding? Why did you stand in for him?" 

Aaron still remained silent. He smiled slyly and stopped the car after a while "here we are"

Lucy looked around and saw that they had reached her house already. She suprisingly stepped down from the car and frowned slightly

This house holds all the terrible and unwanted memories of her

The place she never felt the word called love. The place where she never experienced parental love. The place she was treated like nothing but some kind of trash

Lucy didn't want to get married into the Green family earlier, but upon second thoughs, she realised that was her only way to freedom

She had heard so much about the son of the Green family. Many people said he's some ugly arrogant man who doesn't respect anyone

He doesn't respect women and keeps people dancing to his tune because of his richness

All these made Lucy dislike him at first. But when she was asked to marry him, she got this glimpse of hope in her heart.  Even if he's ugly and arrogant, he'll still be her husband and might provide her with some comfortable life

Which will definitely be much better than staying and suffering in the hands of her own parents

Aaron walked to Lucy's side and took her hand gently "let's go inside"

Lucy sighed out loudly and strode into the house with Aaron. The hall looked empty, and Lucy thought possibly everyone was still asleep which was very rare though

Aaron sat in one of the sofas to wait for Lucy as she went upstairs to her room for her personal belongings. She would only let her parents know about her presence after she was done packing

She walked very fast and steadily along the corridor to her room. But as she neared the door to her room, she head some voices 

The door to her room was slightly opened. Peeping her eyes throught the small space available, Lucy saw her mother and sister talking. They had gathered all her stuffs on the bed. 

"Mom, are you sure we haven't made any mistake in giving Lucy to the Greens? They're very rich" Lora, Lucy's elder sister asked with her arms folded over her chest

"Never. That family is made up of a group of some psychopaths and manerless beings. Surviving in that family won't be as easy as you think my dear" Dennisa explained with confidence

"I think you're right mom. Lucy deserves all the harsh treatment and humilliation, not me. I'm so glad to have been born to a mother as thoughtful as you" Lora smiled broadly and jumped into her mother's embrace

This conversation between Lora and Dennisa got Lucy thinking seriously

Could it be possible Lora was the one the Green family had demanded for and not her?
