Chapter 1
"Sorry for the wait, I had no idea it would take this long," I said as I took a seat at Mr. Ackerman's table. "No problem," he replied as he placed his near-empty glass on the table."What did you want to chat about? It's the weekend, and there are a lot of customers so can we make this quick?""I'm not one to beat around the bush too. Let's get married.""Wait, what?""You need money to get out of debt, correct? If you marry me, I'll help you do just that.""I don't get it. Wh-Why are you asking me to marry you?""My company is in bankruptcy and I need the family property to get back on top, but my grandfather set up this stupid will that won't allow me access unless I'm married. Everyone that I interviewed was more interested in my company and property than the money I offered them.""Okay but what made you choose me?""For the past week, I've been watching you. Even when your customers were wasted and offering money, you stayed honest. That's what made me think that you'll be more

Lucinda's p.o.v;The next day, "When will we get married?" Mr Ackerman asked me as I was served the drinks at the bar."What about the contract I asked you? Did you prepare it?"He put a piece of paper on the tray and said, "Aren't you a little rude? You looked so nice when you served me drinks, but now you look like a completely different person." I handed the contract back to him and said, "Then go find someone you like." He gave the contract again and said, "To be honest, I like a little rudeness." As I looked at the contract, he continued, "I forgot to ask you. Do you have a boyfriend?" "Don't you think it's too late to ask? And would I be willing to marry you if I had a boyfriend?" "So no boyfriend. Then are you seeing anyone?" "No." "What about your ex-boyfriends? How much have you had?" "I didn't have time for those things." "Are you saying you've never been in love?" "Why are you suddenly so interested in my love life?" "It's nothing wrong that I know about the pers

Lucinda's p.o.v;"Why are you quitting your job?" Mrs Smith, who's the manager at the nightclub I'm working in, asked me.'How can I tell her I should quit my work at the bar because it was mentioned in the contract I made with Mr Ackerman?'"It's just a little change of career," I answered calmly. My manager didn't look convinced, but then again, she never did. She was like an old lady who believed that everyone had their own story to tell. "I'm just getting away for a while.""I see," Mrs Smith said with a sigh, her eyes twinkling. "When will you be coming back?", she asked me, and before I could even answer. Since I couldn't tell her about Mr Ackerman, I said, "Soon. I promise.""Well if you need anything, don't hesitate to call me," Mrs Smith said earnestly before walking out of the room.I watched her leave, my lips slightly curled up in a smile as she left. Her smile was contagious. It warmed my heart a bit when my manager smiled like that because it reminded me how lucky I w

Lucinda's POV;Mr Ackerman brought me to the wedding outfits store. As soon as we entered, the people who work there gathered around him in a silent greeting of recognition or respect and they smiled. They talked to him like they knew him well. In the middle of the conversation with them, he pointed at me and said to them, "She's Lucinda, the girl I'm marrying" then they all clapped and cheered with excitement. He continued, "Can you help her by guiding into the store?" One of the female staff came forward and said, "We'll take care of her, Sir." And walked to me and said, "Congratulations for your wedding, mam. Do you have any preference for your bridal gown?" I shook my head as my response. "It's alright. Let's go in and have a look at the newly arrived bridal gowns first."When i looked at Mr Ackerman, he said, "Go with them." I walked with the female staff and came to another section of the store where there are much more expensive clothes than the clothes I saw when I entered

Lucinda's POVWhen the clock striked eleven, Mrs Smith and I closed the club. Mrs Smith thanked me for helping her and left. While I was cleaning the glasses, I got a call. I looked at the name on the display and ignored it. It rang for some time and stopped at some point. After cleaning, I turned off the lights and walked into the room behind the manager's room. This is where I stay whenever I run out of money to pay the rent. I set the bed and tried to go to sleep. My phone rang again. Doesn't he know when to stop? I answered it, he said, "I'm waiting for you at Fifth Main Street." And he hung up. What does he want now? I put on a coat and headed to the street, he told me. When I arrived, I saw Mr Ackerman waiting near his car. I walked to him and asked, "What did you call me here for?" "I went to your house. You weren't there. When I asked around, they said that you vacated.""I paid the rent money to shadow so the landlord asked me to move out.""Where are you going to stay the

Lucinda's POV;I woke up to the sound of the alarm blaring in my ear. I sat up and turned off the alarm before grabbing a cup of water. I didn't remember setting up the alarm last night. How did it ring? I rubbed my eyes and looked at the room I was in. Where am i? Oh, yeah. It's Mr Ackerman's house. I moved here yesterday. Since there wasn't enough water, I got up from the bed and came out of the room. The house was completely silent around me as I padded down the hall to the kitchen. As I filled my glass with water, there was an insistent knocking at the front door. I put the water on the counter and slowly made my way towards the door, wondering who could be bothering me at this ungodly hour. Is it Lance?I opened the door a crack to see Mr Ackerman's brother, Levi. He had a large bouquet of flowers in his hand. "Hey," he said with a sheepish smile. "Sorry to bother you this early morning, but I thought I should be the first to congratulate you for your wedding." My eyes widened a

Lucinda's POV;I knocked on the door and waited for Mr Ackerman's permission to enter. When I heard a "Come in" from inside I pushed it open, stepped into the large room, and closed the door behind me. He hadn't looked up from his laptop when I had entered, so I took that as my cue to start talking. "Mr Ackerman," I said. When he didn't reply, I continued, "You called for me?" When he finally did look up at me, his eyebrows were raised in surprise. "Yes, come sit down,'' He set aside his laptop and said, "My grandfather is very hard to convince." As I took the seat across from him he added, "So we should tell him a story which will convince him.Listen to me, stop me if something seems off." I raised my eyebrows in question. After an uncomfortable silence, he elaborated, "We met because your brother is one of my clients and while having a company dinner with him, I met you accidentally.""Mr Ackerman, I don't have a brother. And, I don't understand what you're talking about.""We ca

Lucinda's POV;At the dining table, I asked Mr Ackerman, "What if they ask for my qualification? I don't have anything except for the certificate to tell me that I graduated from middle school.""It's my company and I'm the president. Moreover, you're my wife. Who's going to question you? Even if they did, I'll take care of it." He said as he ate his breakfast and asked, "I didn't expect an antipasto and bruschetta for breakfast. Where did you learn it?""Like I said earlier, I learned it while I was working in restaurants. In the beginning, it was weird to me since it was an Italian cuisine but later when I had a taste, it was really good to my surprise." He nodded his head and continued eating."Why didn't Lance come today?""I asked him to work in my office since you're not going to be in the house from now."After we finished breakfast, we headed to the office together. While Mr Ackerman was driving the car, he asked me, "You said you worked several jobs. Have you worked in any

Tyler Ackerman's POV;When the office hours ended for the day, I got ready to leave but when I saw Lucy sleeping on her desk, I stopped in my tracks. I wanted to go wake her up but seeing how she looked so comfortable, I decided not to do that. I grabbed my phone and took a picture of her face while looking at her peacefully asleep. I shouldn't have let Daniel into my cabin while you were here, I didn't think he'd flirt with you. How dare he flirt with you? but I was too busy getting annoyed. I'm not going to let him get closer to you if he'll just try to hit you again. I sighed and looked at the cute face in front of me. How could anyone resist this beautiful face? I shook my head trying to clear my thoughts. no need to get jealous over something that doesn't exist yet. I carried her in my arms and brought her to my car. I placed her inside and buckled her seatbelt then started the car. She was sleeping very well like that. I started driving home hoping that she wouldn't wake u

Lucy's pov;Friday morning at Tyler's company, most of the time he'll be in the meeting room with others leaving me alone in his cabin so i used that time to talk with other employees. Even though the conversation is short and crisp with 'how's your day today' 'have a good day ' 'good morning' it does made the environment good to work at. "Lucy? We're heading for the coffee break? Wanna join us?" Owen, team leader, asked me while i was sitting in Tyler's cabin and thinking about what i should cook for dinner. Since i felt a little thirsty, I stood up from my seat and said, "Yeah. I'll join you."When I stepped out of Tyler's cabin, i saw others waiting for us. Altogether, we came to the cafeteria for our coffee break. Catherine asked me while I was drinking my watermelon drink, "Is there a reason why you don't like coffee or tea? Or you just hate it?" I said, "When I was little, I sneakily sipped coffee from my father's cup and it was really bitter to the point where I started to
