Chapter 4: Makeover

JACOB grabbed Daphne's arm and gently dragged her out of the hospital. "Where are we going? The wedding isn't yet, is it? Where are you taking me?" she complained.

She only agreed to get married to him last night in exchange for Jacob helping to pay for her grandmother's heart surgery. For her granny, she had to swallow her shame and pride.

"Just shut up, ok? Just come with me," he said angrily and she quickly complied. She said nothing.

'He's quite unkind. He's good-looking but grouchy,' she thought.

When they eventually left the hospital, Jacob started the car as soon as they were in it. She wanted to ask about their destination once more, but she decided not to speak up because she was certain that he would become incensed.

Was she right to choose this man, though? She wasn't even familiar with Jacob's genuine character. Should she believe him?

Daphne only now recognized that the door had opened and the car had stopped. Jacob told her to get out of the car.

She secretly scowled at him. She took a deep breath and looked at where they were. She found out that they were in a mall. Her forehead frowned. "What are we doing here?" she asked.

"Just follow me, don't ask too many questions," he said angrily. She wanted to strike Jacob when he turned back, but she quickly withdrew her hand when he turned to face her. "Are you simply going to stand there?"

She moved swiftly toward him. She didn't know what they were going to do when they arrived at the mall. She was surprised when they went inside a boutique store. "choose some dress for her. The one that complements the attractiveness she has." He casually instructed the saleswoman there.

Daphne wants to ask and complain to Jacob, but she decides not to do so because she is aware that she will make him upset. She was unsure of why she needed to dress up, but she simply followed what he just said.

The salesperson smiled. "Good day, Ma'am, this way," the saleswoman said as she led her into a room filled with stunning clothes that left her speechless. "You are beautiful, Ma'am, and Sir Jacob noticed it."

She wasn't surprised that anyone knew Jacob. She's handsome and a successor of a multi-billionaire company.

Daphne was immediately uncomfortable with what the girl had stated. She merely grinned without speaking. Even though they were all gorgeous, she tried on numerous sizes of the various dresses and found that she didn't like any of them.

"Maybe it's the simple brown dress that was last." She pointed to it. She put it on right away and grinned at herself in the mirror. That suited her perfectly. "Miss, I want this," she announced.

The clerk smiled at her. "Wow, Ma'am, you're beautiful and the dress fits you," she exclaimed. She merely smiled at her compliment.

She left the room after everything was in order so Jacob could see what she was wearing. He only gave her a brief moment of attention before turning away. "Don't take it off, wear that dress," he commanded her and made her stunned.

"Huh? I'm not going to take off this outfit, but I'm not used to wearing a dress like this," she complained in astonishment.

Her eyes followed Jacob when he was going to pay for the dress. The salesperson gave her old clothes that were already in a paper bag. She was surprised when Jacob seized her arm once more and dragged her in the direction of a parlor close to the shop where they had been before. She grimaced. She was about to complain again but she stopped herself because Jacob hates complaints.

"Makeover her. Just make it as simple as possible." Jacob told a gay cosmetic artist in the salon. He took a seat in the waiting room and examined his phone.

The gay makeup artist smiled as he observed her features. He brought her to the chair facing the enormous mirror and smiled. "I'll make your beauty stand out, Ma'am." He's not used to it, therefore she's still reserved.

She felt her face itching as a gay makeup artist began to put makeup on her face. She lets him do what he wants. Later, the makeup artist completed her look. His face took on a surprised expression. He gushed, "Wow! Perfect! Your beauty comes through with such simple makeup."

Daphne turned to look in the mirror and was startled by what she saw. It was so different from how she had previously seemed that she wanted to doubt whether or not she was still a girl in the mirror's reflection. She smiled as she gently stroked her cheek.

A makeup artist sounded delighted and said, "You can definitely make your guy fall in love with you again."

She flashed a few smiles as she marveled at her transformation. "I appreciate that," she said happily.

The makeup artist grabbed her shoulder and led her closer to Jacob. "Are you ready?"

Daphne nodded. But she was stunned when she saw Jacob leaning on the sofa while his eyes closed. She scowled. He seemed to be dozing off on the sofa. Daphne gazed at his appealing face, which gave off the impression of a gentle and innocent man.

"Sir, Sir!" the make-up artist murmured.

Jacob moved a little. He opened his eyes slowly and couldn't help but stare at her, as if her face had a magnet that he didn't want to take his eyes off of. She was wearing a brown dress and makeup but she looks classy and beautiful.

"Sir, your mouth is open, insects might go in there," a make-up artist kidding while he's smiling because of Jacob's expression.

Jacob blinked his eyes and glanced at the make-up artist standing next to her. He bowed slightly. He couldn't look at Daphne. "Yeah! Thank you for your effort to make her beautiful." He got up from sitting and walked out of the parlor. Daphne grinned and then followed Jacob.

When they reached Jacob's car, she asked him. "Why do I have to dress like this and put on makeup?" With a puzzled look on her face,

"We're going to my family's house. W-wait—what's your name again." That was a wrinkly question.

When Daphne heard his question, she was astounded. He stumbled, "M-me, Daphne Orilio," she said. He doesn't know her name, but they are getting married. She rolled her eyes and scowled.

"I'll bring you to my family to introduce you to them," he said, "Yeah! you're Daphne, I remembered now."

She was stunned and could barely move when she heard what Jacob said. "Right away? Seriously, Sir?"

"We need to get married as quickly as possible," he stated anxiously, "because if we don't make it faster, I'll be in danger."

"But—"

"No buts, Daphne. There is nothing you can do. Why do you seem like a coward now? Didn't you say you'd do everything?"
