Chapter 18

As if on cue and to my utter surprise, Franco suddenly appeared out of nowhere. The man was certainly always one call away for her.

He seems to be in haste. There’s anger and concern in his face but he tries to act collected.

“There’s a room on the highest floor reserved for you. The men are already watching him.” He said.

“Wait until the night is done. It’d be a waste if you caught him before his generosity.” She said through vague uneven breaths. She really isn’t okay right now. And I’m really getting worried. It’s the first time I’ve seen her vulnerable.

Franco nods at her orders.

“Let’s go.” She steps away from the wall she was leaning on. I automatically scoop her in my arms without thinking. I could see their reactions. They were both shocked at my sudden gesture. I could tell they were both trying to suppress it though.

“Sorry.” I meet her eyes. “I thought- sorry. I didn’t think, actually. It’s just out of habit.”

She narrows her eyes. “You mean you carry women out of habit.”
