CHAPTER FOUR

This year's Alpha Selection ceremony was different as the Mating Ceremony was to take place first.

Leo arrived at our house as early as seven in the morning, flashing a smile at me.

"I want to take you to the mating ceremony." He said.

It would have sounded romantic if I hadn't been reborn but right now, all I could do was pretend to go with the flow. "No problem." I managed a small smile and saw him looking around.

"I don't see your sister around. Is she not attending?"

I smirked and quickly adjusted my expression before asking in a soft voice. "Leo, who exactly are you waiting for? Me or my sister?"

His brows carved up slightly and he scratched the back of his head. "I'm specially here for you of course. I just thought you would want…"

"Then let's leave." I grabbed his hand and dragged him towards the door. "Sunny can meet us later." I snickered as I remembered my past life. We had attended the initial ceremony with Sunny and the bitch had made sure to sit between Leo and I. Now that I thought about it, I must have really looked like a stupid clueless woman.

We arrived at the ceremony and I paid my respect to my mother's family before taking my seat with them. Since Leo wasn't part of us, he had no choice but to sit with the Sancreed family. He would often smile at me from afar and text me love messages every now and then. It made me feel more disgusted by him but I held it in.

Just as the Ceremony began, I saw Sunny and Madam Janet hurriedly walk in. Was it difficult to find free transport without my help? Smirking, I decided to taunt them as they paused at my table.

"What is wrong? Did you find it difficult getting here on time without the help of yours truly?" Sunny glared at me while Madam Janet held her back. "Not to worry, I will be sure to award you with good bones later."

My words made Madam Janet furious and she gave me a look that could kill. Sunny seems surprised. I never spoke like that and I knew it was shocking to hear me utter such words.

She had opened her mouth to respond but had to close it back as the ceremony began and her mother dragged her to my fathers side.

I stared at Leo who was exchanging glances with Sunny. When he looked at me and saw that I had been staring, he pretended to be smiling and waved at me. I waved in return with a blank look and began talking to one of my cousins regarding the awakening of witch power as a werewolf.

"I don't think I am the right person to discuss that with you. You should ask my mom." Replied Debbie.

Debbie's mother, my aunt, was my mother's younger sister. They looked alike so much I used to think they were twins when I was little. And Debbie and I were born with only two days between us. She used to come over before my mother died and we would play twins together.

"Thank you." I responded.

As the ceremony began and different male wolves proceeded to choose their mates as the females did the same, I sat in my space and pretended to be busy with something under the table. In my past life, I had personally picked Leo as my mate and went against the advice of my mother's family.

As different male wolves approached me and proposed, I continued to reject them till they all stopped coming.

I finally raised my head and met his gaze. He looked confused and tried to smile at me which came out crooked. His eyes were asking a series of questions, probably wondering why I wasn't approaching him.

All I did was softly smile in return and leaned back into my seat as I engaged myself with the celebrity talks my cousin was having.

Few minutes later, Leo approached me with an affectionate smile and eyes brimming with love. "Dennis Williams, will you bond with me and be my mate forever? You are the only one I have ever wanted. I want you to be my Luna and Love."

I knew it must have taken him a lot of courage to approach as he was a naturally arrogant man and he must still think in his mind that I would step down from the Alpha competition for him. I heard grunts coming from my mother's relatives as the elders grumbled underneath their breath. I turned to my aunt and read the look of disapproval in her eyes.

I wore a look of distress and got on my feet. Entwining my fingers, I pretended to be in a difficult situation and told him. "How do I say this? Leo, my mother's family doesn't agree with me stepping down from the Alpha Ceremony for you and don't want to upset them as they have always been there for me." I sniffed. "I am really sorry."

Leo stared at me like I was speaking parables and turned to glare at Madam Janet and Sunny. He must have thought it was something they had said to upset me.

"But Dennis, you and I…we promised to…"

I shook my head and started to cry. "I am really sorry. This isn't my decision either." When I saw that he was about to continue talking, I ran out of the venue with tears in my eyes to make it look like I was really upset.

I wiped off the crocodile tears when the venue was out of sight. Leaning against a tree, I heaved a sigh of relief. Happy that I have avoided a misfortune in this life.

As I was still rejoicing, my heart suddenly skipped a beat when I heard the voice of my dead wolf call out my name. My body went stiff and I started to feel the jolt of electricity run through my body. Excited that she was back, I was about to communicate with her when she growled deeply, the animalistic sound coming from the base of my throat.

'Mate.' She grunts.
