Roman's pov.She hesitated.I look at the time on my watch and try to get that moment out of my head, but I can't.I asked her if she trusted me and she hesitated for a split second before sighing and giving a nod. I move my head to the side as I roll on the bed and scrunch up an eyebrow. Maya was bone-deep exhausted when she came back, and according to her she had been lied to and wronged by Roman. His Beta had put her through even more training when she went out to the gardens and while she liked it, she didn't like being lied to. I chuckle as that thought runs through my head and I try to slowly extricate the hand she has in her hold. The Alpha Conference is something I know of. It is held every three years, and as Roman said it is a gathering of all the Alphas in the state. It's much larger than that though. I've heard Hunter having council meetings about this Conference, planning year on end for it. The Alpha Conference might be why he's so horrible to me, but that's a matter for another day. "Follow them." Fen nods and motions to the warriors hiding in the treescape. I feel the magic that hums in the air as they transform. My warriors turn back to give me one last look, and I let my eyes glow as Fenrir comes to the surface to encourage his fellow warriors. Fenrir is a leader, a commander among wolves, and he's got guts of steel. He's made that more than evident today. Fen and six warriors take off in their wolf form and I punch the nearest tree as I grit my teeth. The sound of deep cracking comes next and with a groan the tree collapses. I take a deep breath and start pacing. Calm down, Roman. You can do this. Yes... you might have just sent your second mate off into lethal danger, literally risking her life because she wanted to make up for forgetting a car, something that might have been your fault since you didn't let her breathe for two minutes without making her nervous! But you can do this. You can. Fuck, what the hell am I doing! I need to go after them.

It's breakfast time in the Ironclaw pack and we're seated at a table. "Here in the Ironclaw pack, we eat meat more than anything else." I roll my eyes so heavily I think they'd roll out of their sockets. That is such a typical werewolf thing to do, and the last thing I assumed about this pack was that it was typical. "I think I like this new school." I blink and let out the breath I didn't know I was holding in. "No kidding." The school is huge. "Should we go in, Miss?" The driver, obviously unhappy that he's been assigned the task of driving us, is speaking in a clipped pissed-off tone. Maya is looking out the window as the car comes to a stop in front of the school gates, and I can tell she's also impressed. The car windows aren't tinted, instead, they're crystal clear so we can see exactly what the Ironclaw preparatory school looks like. The fences are not normal. I watch as one child, a small male who shouldn't be too older than Maya, breaks out into a run and hits the fence with a leap. His hands and feet find hostage in the crevices constructed into it and almost like this has become routine, he climbs the fence, disappearing off to the other side. He's not the only one doing that.
