Chapter 4

Makynzee

“I’m impressed, didn’t think you would come in.”

Those damned eyes. I folded my arms across my chest, mimicking his stance.

“I know they asked for me, Kalil.”

“And?”

“And you told them no.”

“And?”

I was pretty sure I had a snappy comeback, but just as I opened my mouth the door opened and a few guys walked in.

As I looked back at them, Kalil growled, “Occupied.”

They looked around in confusion then turned and walked back out. When I look back at Kalil, he was glaring at the door. He looked dangerous again. I shivered as goose bumps covered my arms. When the door closed his face softened.

“You cold?” he asked.

“Why?”

“Because you shivered?”

“I meant, why did you tell them no, Kalil?” I was irritated. He stared at me as if contemplating answering, but didn’t. “An answer would be nice.”

I fisted my hands on my hips and his eyes followed. Then dropped lower. I could only imagine what he was thinking. I wished he would actually do it. Wait…I did?

“Up here, Kalil!” I clapped my hands in front of my face to get his attention. He took his time bringing his eyes back up to mine. I should have let him keep them where they were. His gaze was smoldering. I couldn’t look away even if I wanted to. I didn’t want to.

“I need you to close tonight,” he said.

That hot-guy fog he trapped me in cleared right up with those words. Not what I expected him to said. “I can’t, if I close that puts me getting home after…” Damn him, he almost had me.

“I don’t close.” He smiled and began to walk to me. I backed away. Stupid bathroom door. I was stuck. He stopped in front of me, inches away from our bodies touching, and stared down at me. “What are you doing?”

“Can you please close tonight?”

This wasn’t about me. He just needed me to cover for Cari. “No, ask one of the other girls.”

“I wasn’t asking anymore, I’m telling. You’re closing tonight.”

Before I could respond the door opened causing me to fall forward. He made no attempt to move or stop me from falling. I landed against his chest and he wrapped one arm around my waist to hold me steady. My body instantly molded to his, soft and giving against his hard and unyielding. I was putty in his hands and I was positive he knew it.

“Occupied!” he barked as he used his free hand to stop it from swinging open any further and possibly hitting me.

“Sorry boss, we got a situation.”

It was Bruce. Effortlessly, Kalil lifted me and placed me behind him. “Don’t move,” he ordered.

He wasn’t the boss of me. Wait, he actually was. I quickly slipped past him and hurried back to the bar.

Kalil

I watched Makynzee load her drink tray and shake her head at Cari before disappearing into the crowd, ass swinging hypnotically. I tore my gaze away, letting my eyes roam over the club. Most of the attention was riveted to the stage, but little pockets of people were focused on their servers. Especially the groups that Makynzee served.

“How old do you think she really is?” I asked Bruce, cutting him off mid-sentence as he spoke about a problem that wasn’t really a problem.

“18, maybe 19,” he answered immediately.

“I have at least six years on her, so what the hell is wrong with me when she was around?”

“Love bug, boss man.”

“Shut the fuck up, Bruce, that’s stupid.”

He laughed before going back to explaining situation he claimed we had. My mind was still on having her body against mine. There was no denying that she felt good as fuck. She was scared though. I could feel her heart pounding in her chest. If Bruce hadn’t walked in I think I would have tested the softness of those lips. Since he interrupted us, I interrupt him again. “Handle it Bruce, you don’t need me for that.”

“Handle it how?” he wondered as he turned away.

If I had to tell him, did I really need him working for me? I scanned the crowd trying to fool myself into thinking I’d lost sight of Makynzee, when in fact I always knew where she was. She smiled and passed out drinks to a group of guys at a table. Each one that stuffed a tip into her garter let their hands linger. That shit didn’t sit well with me. I had to force myself to stand still and not go on a murder spree. As she turned to walk away from them her smile disappeared. She took a few steps then stopped walking and I thought she’d caught me staring at her, but she plastered the smile back on before turning back to the table. I watched as one guy held up a few bills and said something to her. The smile slipped and without thought I started making my way towards them. Her lips moved and everyone laughed except the guy holding the money. His lips curled up into a snarl as he stood.

“I was just looking for you. Bruce said you went to your office,” Chino said as he fell in step with me.

“We know these guys at Minx table?” I asked without taking my eyes off of them.

“Bachelor party.”

With that being said I could guess what he might have asked her. With a shake of her head she turned to walk away and I know she saw me this time. She stared at me for a few seconds and just as she headed in the opposite direction the guy slaps her on her ass causing her to stumble forward. That had to hurt. As she righted herself from her stumble she tilted the drink tray and lets everything fall from it. Turning back to face the guy who was now laughing with his friends, she slammed the tray into his face.

“Oh shit!” Chino blurted as the guy fell back on the table.

“Don’t you ever touch me again,” Makynzee screamed, her face flushed with fury.

“You stupid bitch,” he replied as blood gushed from his nose. He starts to lunge at her, but Chino grabs him and I step in front of her. I actually have to force her to back away.

“Get the fuck out, all of you,” I command his friends. The don’t even hesitate.

“Is there a problem, sir?” Chino asked.

“Don’t even answer that, apologize to her,” I said as I step aside and pull her closer to him. Wide eyed and mouth gaping, she stared up at me.

“This bitch broke my nose and you want me to apologize to her?”

Damn. I really didn’t want to have to hurt him. I hold him by his shirt and hit him twice, before I remember I actually have to let him speak to apologize. Somehow, over all the music and the other noise, one voice stands out. She was not even yelling.

“Kalil, stop it.”

She had a lose grip on my forearm. I glanced down and saw fear in her eyes. It wasn’t there before, so I guessed it was me who scared her. Bullshit. I would never hurt her. I let the guy go and he coughed out a few apologies before Chino spoke.

“I think she deserves a pretty big tip to show how sorry you really are.”

She finally looked away from me to glare at the guy.

“I don’t want his money!”

Protesting was useless. Chino had already reached into the guys pocket and grabbed his wallet. He opened it and pulled out a wad of twenties.

“Why don’t you insist that she take it?” I suggested.

“I insist, please take it!”

He tried to stuff the money into her hand, but she refused it.

“You might change your mind later, Minx.” I needed her to take it so I’d feel better, but she didn’t. I snatched the money from him and stuffed it in her garter before walking away. It was probably best I went in my office until we closed.
