Chapter two

Cindy thought her Uncle was joking but unfortunately, he wasn't playing around with her, he meant all that he said.

Cindy went into the kitchen and prepared their breakfast quickly before she left for school.

'Her parents never allowed her to go into the kitchen, I'm sure of that, but how come she knows how to cook?' Mrs Black asked in her mind the moment she tested the meals on the table and shrugged.

The following morning Cindy woke up with a splash of cooled water, she jumped down from the bed shivering, slowly she wiped water off her face and to her greatest surprise it wasn't who she had in mind.

"Uncle?" Cindy whispered shockingly.

"Cindy, I expected you to have finished with the cleaning of the house and maybe you will be preparing our breakfast by now... So what are you still doing on the bed?" Mr Black asked.

"Uncle is just 4:30 a.m., how can I start working now? It's still very early." Cindy answered.

Cindy's eyes widened and it was down on her that she had totally turned to a maid in her own father's house when Mr black stepped forward and asked, "Still early right?"

"Yes, Uncle," Cindy responded lazily and he landed a heavy slap on her face, immediately her eyes became blurred, everything was spinning and she fell on the floor.

"Listen, I'm going back to my room, make sure this house is clean before I come out of my room." Mr Black said and walked out of Cindy's room.

"Mum! Dad!... Have you seen what I'm going through? Have you seen what your daughter is being compared to? Why? Why have you chosen to abandon me with this your cruel brother?"

"It wasn't enough that I lost both of you, now look what my uncle is forcing me to do." Cindy lamented soberly. She slowly walked downstairs.

It wasn't easy for her but she put up a strong mind to face whatever that comes her way from that day onwards.

Cindy on her own stopped eating with them in the dining room and was doing everything they asked her to do, but yet her uncle's wife wasn't satisfied.

She was also jealous of Cindy's beauty and planned how she would damage her face when she returns from lecture.

After lectures, she arranged her books ready to go home, Immediately she stepped out of her class one of the lecturers called her, "Cindy,"

Cindy turned back and saw the man who gave her admission, "Hi, Mr Thomas,"

"Cindy, you've not been in lecture for some days, what's going on?" Mr Thomas asked.

"Sir, it's a long story we better not talk about it," Cindy answered shortly trying to avoid what was happening at home.

"If you say so, let's go straight to the point, I just want to let you know that your uncle was here yesterday and he made it clear to us that you will be dropping out of school... Is there a problem? Your final exams are around the corner and you want to drop out? Cindy, listen you know you can talk to me. What's this about?" Mr Thomas asked sensing that something was wrong but what could he do when she wasn't saying anything?

Cindy was one of the best students in her school and dropping out was out of option.

Cindy breathed heavily and shook her head. "Mr Thomas, don't worry everything is fine, this was just a misunderstanding." Mr Thomas nodded and left.

Cindy reached home and the first thing she did was to rush into the kitchen to prepare dinner.

As she was about to start the cooking her uncle's wife walked in, "Cindy, I'm looking for my jewellery, where can I find it?"

"Aunty, I haven't seen your jewellery and I don't know where you can find it," Cindy responded calmly but she was very angry.

"Who else is in this house with us, huh? Cindy, let it not be what I'm thinking." Her uncle's wife said and gently she raised the boiled water, she wanted to turn it on Cindy and suddenly her son called out.

"Mother!" She jolted hearing Desmond's voice and gently she put the pot down, gasped at Cindy and walked away, then Desmond followed her.

"Good heaven! Mother, what were you trying to do? To turn the boiled water on her... I don't know you're this heartless." Desmond uttered shockingly...

"Don't talk to your mother that way, Desmond." She said, warning him.

After seeing what would have happened to Cindy, Desmond watched his parents closely from that day and noticed that his parents were ready to hurt her at any slight opportunity.

Then Desmond refused giving them the chance to hurt her and since then he has been the one protecting her from his parent's evil plot.

Immediately Cindy finished what she was doing, she went and met her uncle after she noticed that her fees were not yet paid and her examination was already at hand.

"Good evening, Uncle," Cindy greeted and he looked up at her.

"Cindy, what is it?" He asked, frowning.

"Uncle, the administrator told me..."

"Listen, Cindy, if you're trying to talk about the school fee then forget it, there's nothing I can do about it, you're dropping out and that's final." He said heartlessly.

Cindy was dumbfounded, tears streamed down her eyes, she couldn't believe her life would turn out this way. If only her parents were alive today, who the hell is her uncle to do all these things to her?

Her life shattered all over, as she slowly turned around without a word and left.

She went to her parent's grave and sat down quietly on her father's grave 'Uncle Black has decided to destroy my life mother... Who will I run to now? How am I supposed to take over the company without completing my school, Dad?' She lamented soberly.

She got tired of crying and lay down calmly on the grave, suddenly a gentle breeze blew and she felt peace within her, she stood up, cleaned her body and went home.

That same evening, she prepared their dinner and served them as usual, she noticed that her Uncle and his wife were arguing with each other, she didn't want to hear what the problem was, so she stood up and moved away.

"Hi Dad," Desmond greeted immediately he walked into the dining room and his mother looked up smiling.

"Hello son," His mother greeted happily.

"Hi Mom," Desmond greeted and sat down, not wasting any time he dished out food and started eating.

"Father, it's so difficult for me to understand what's going on in the company," Desmond said worriedly.

"Don't worry son, you can't just learn everything at once, it's a gradual process... I also find it difficult to understand anything." Mr Black said.

"Father, that Mrs Rose is one of a genius, she knows everything about the company as if it was in her palms," Desmond said raising his index finger.

"Son... She built the company with my brother," Mr Black said lazily.

"Wow, that's great." He said and through his voice, one would notice that he was happy.

Then he thought, 'Wow how I wish my Uncle was still alive... Mrs Rose won't put me through the way he would have done.'

After eating, Mr Black and his wife went to their room. Desmond went and checked on Cindy before going to his room.

The moment Mr Black and his wife entered their room, his wife continued, "Sweetheart, you better listen to me..."

"I can't do what you're asking me to do, have we not done enough to her?... She's out from school, she does all the house choice and she cooks three times every day." Mr Black retorted annoyingly.

"Calm down sweetheart, it doesn't matter what she has been through, what matters now is how you will own the company all to yourself." She said, then gently she paced up and down before she continued.

"Get rid of her," She said and flipped her index finger in the air, "The company will be ours... Yours... Everything!... So we won't have to fight with her in future."

"I'll think about it." Mr Black answered still unsettled with her idea to kill Cindy and went to bed.

Mr Black refused to kill Cindy and that brought issues between him and his wife, and then finally they separated.

Cindy kept struggling with the house choice and after some years the stress became much for her, she started thinking of a way to escape from her uncle.
