The next afternoon, around noon, all of the castle staff was asked to wait in the entrance hall. The request had been made by Rodrick early that morning, after speaking briefly with a maid that stopped by the room to check on him. The train ride was quiet as it passed through the countryside. The only sounds were the clacking and clicking of the wheels on the rails. There weren't many passengers going out this far and she couldn't say she was surprised. Charlotte Barnes was a historian of sorts. She was going to a grand ball, even the thought of it sounded fancier than anything she had ever been to in her life. The invitation, while small, looked as though it had been hand-written. The ink on the card inside was so fine and precise. The person who had written it out, had taken careful time with each and every word. "So, I'm curious, you said he pays you at the end of each week. How do you get paid?" Charlotte asked once the two women found a little table at the back of the café to sit at. "Just as you would get paid at any other job. Lord Hunt pays us each about five hundred a week," Shayla answered and took a sip of her coffee. It was surprising to hear that a vampire lord would offer an actual payout to his contractors. While it wasn't unheard of to be the case, it just wasn't common.
