- Chapter six - THE BED

Phoenix’s POV

It’s already late night; I am here in my room, sitting on the bed. I am still scared when someone threatened me earlier through a phone call that he would kill mom and me.

I don’t know what’s his problem. Why did he kill my older brother?

The door in my room is not open right now, a few minutes later, my phone rang which meant someone was calling me, so I took it in my pocket and answered the phone call, “Hello,” I said to him.

“Miss me?” He sarcastically asked, which made me close my hands.

He is the one who called me earlier; it’s obvious he is using a device right now to change his voice to hide his identity.

“Who are you?!” I asked him; I want him to feel right now that I am tough, “What do you need from us?!” I asked again, so he laughed sarcastically.

“You don’t need to know who I am and my motive,” he said to me, then he took a deep breath and spoke, “What do you need to do is to find where I am,” he seriously said.

It cannot be happening! If he tries to hurt my mom, I will kill him, “Where are you?” I asked him.

“Under the bed,” he answered me, so he is targeting me! I tried to find something that I could use against the person who wanted to kill mom and me.

I saw a baseball bat beside the door, so I walked towards it and took it, “How can I be sure that you are not lying?” I asked him because I was ready to kill him!

“Why don’t you look,” he said sarcastically, so I put the phone on the loudspeaker, and I put it on the cabinet, then I walked towards my bed little by little.

At this moment, I am ready to die to kill him. I held the baseball bat firmly and looked under my bed, but I didn’t see someone hiding there, which made me breathe easier.

I took my phone to the cabinet, “Liar!” I angrily said. “Why don’t you tell me where you are? Are you afraid of what I may do to you?!” I said sarcastically to him.

He laughed upon hearing that, “I did not say I’m under your bed,” he said seriously to me; what did he mean?

Suddenly, I heard a noise from my mom’s room, and she screamed.

He is in my mom’s room, “Don’t kill my mom!” I angrily said to him, and I threw my phone on the bed. I quickly went outside of my mom’s room while holding a baseball bat.

I saw mom lying on the floor, she had a stab wound on her shoulder, and the killer was standing in front of her while holding a knife.

He is wearing a white mask and jacket that has a hood. He was looking at mom, so he did not see me.

A minute later, he was about to stab mom using the knife he was holding, so I quickly entered the room and hit him with a baseball bat on his back that made him weak.

He stood up and pushed me on the wall. I did not manage to move when he ran towards me and pointed a knife on my neck, “Go ahead and move!” He threatened me. I know that he is using a device right now to change his voice to hide his identity; he is also wearing a mask, so he cannot be recognized.

“What do you want?!” I asked irritably, so he choked me.

“I want to kill you,” he said frankly, and he touched the knife from my cheek down to my neck, “I am itching to kill you!” He angrily said to me, and it seems he became crazy.

I feel anytime he would kill me, his firm choke weakens me even more. I can’t breathe!

A few minutes later, I let go of the baseball bat I was holding. I cannot do anything now.

He was about to stab me on my neck using the knife, but he stopped when mom hit him with a baseball bat on his back, so I punched him on his face that made him let go of me.

Mom was about to hit him with a baseball bat again, but he left the room.

Mom and I left inside of the room, “I will catch him; I am sure he is still not far away from us,” I said to her.

I was about to leave, but mom stopped me, “No!” She said. I can feel right now that she is so worried about me, “We should just call the police, let them investigate what happened here,” she added.

What is her problem? I need to catch the culprit for him to be held accountable for what he did to my brother, “But mom—” I did not manage to continue speaking when she spoke.

“Your brother was now gone; I can’t lose you too,” she seriously said to me, then she took her phone in her pocket and called the police, “Hello, my son and I need your help,” she said to the person on the other line.

While she was explaining what happened to us, I looked at the stab wound in her shoulder. It has full of blood, but she doesn’t care about it. I should be the one who protected her, but earlier, the opposite happened; I could have died if she did not intervene when the killer tried to stab me.

I promise mom I’ll do everything to catch the person who killed my older brother.
