The ground disappeared from under my feet, and suddenly I went from standing in the clearing by the packhouse to darkness taking over my vision. I can feel the air whirling around me, the ground no longer beneath me. Moments later, with a hard thud, my body plummets to the ground. Varan stands above me, looking down.
