His Gaze Beneath the Moon
His Gaze Beneath the Moon
Author: Pink Wisps

Prologue

It was April, the sun was yellow like a dandelion in bloom. Six-year-old Luna stayed with her family in a house near the forest for a few days. It was a great time for vacation and her family enjoyed being with nature all the time.

She reached for her doll and stepped out with great enthusiasm. As she examined the place, the beauty of the trees attracted her. The forest, even on a sunny day, is like a place of twilight shadows shape-shifting and elusive. She is loving the music created by the trees and the sweet rhymes from the birds chirping.

As the young Luna enjoyed the moment in the forest, she heard a painful howl. Being young and curious, she stepped deeper into the woods in search of the unfamiliar sound until she saw something. She was stunned to see a grey wolf in deep pain. The grey wolf was injured. His body was almost drenched in his blood.

Luna knelt in front of the grey wolf as she wore her worried look. "Don't worry Mr. Dog, I will help you," as she tried to reach for the leaves in the bushes thinking those leaves could help heal the wound. She gave her best to pick even the flowers until her hands were pricked by thorns. She almost cried as blood flowed from her hand. Her knees trembled in fear. She remembered the dying wolf and went back to place the leaves and flowers on the wolf's wounds. Her hands were shaking as her right hand was soaked in blood. The prick caused by the thorns was deep. The young girl was crying while helping the wolf. Without even noticing, her blood drops on the wolf's wounds. The wolf suddenly felt a different kind of sensation as his wounds started to heal. The wolf went back to his feet as he tried to stay away from the girl. The wolf's expression was unreadable as it began to run and disappeared into the woods.

Luna was terrified as she looked down at her hand. As she started to scream like a banshee, her parents arrived to calm her down. Her parents have been looking for her and are grateful to find her. Her father hugged her tight as her mom wiped the blood on her hand. Peter and Anne love their daughter so much. They can’t stand to see her hurting so much.

Her father whispered, "Your blood is precious Luna, try not to get hurt next time."

"I came to help the dying dog, it was big and grey," she sobbed.

Her mother touches her cheeks, "Luna, remember not to give your blood to anyone, even a single drop of it. Never let anyone taste your blood. Understood?"

"Yes mom," she answered.

"Luna, remember, just a single mistake, you could launch a thousand werewolves to fight in the war," her dad's voice was firm.

Luna being innocent raised her head as she stared at his father with confusion.
