Council Member Ethan’s POV
I followed Alpha Vance into his office along with his Beta, Reed and a warrior who stands beside the Alpha’s desk. I am introduced to Beta Colt. Alpha Vance does not know why Nix had a banishment over him. Seeing as he removed the banishment order immediately, I believe what he is telling me. Then he asks “Why are we all here? The phone call from the Wolf Council was vague, to say the least.”
“Nix.” I told him. “His mom raised him in a human town. We didn’t know either of them were there. Nix told us he has lived there all of his life.” Alpha Vance will not like what I have to tell him next, so I plan on starting slowly.
“What has that got to do with the Mountain Creek Pack?” Alpha Vance asks.
“Rogues killed his mom a while ago and he is not coping very well. In fact, he has shown some unique abilities considering he is wolf less.”
“He can’t be wolf less, otherwise the banishment effects would not affect him,” Alpha Vance interrupts.
“Regardless, he is wolf less. But he is strong. His body is strong and his aura is strong. If he is not managed before he gets his wolf, he could be dangerous.”
“So, you think you’re sending an unstable kid into my pack? I don’t think so.” He says, looking at his Beta.
“There is a girl here. She has a 50% DNA match with Nix. They are either half siblings or full cousins. We need to know what makes him so special? The girl is a child herself, so we need to speak to her parents.”
“Why do I feel you are not telling me everything?” The Alpha questions.
“The girl I am talking about is Melissa Blackwolf.”
“As in my Melissa. I don’t think so. You must be wrong.” He stands and starts raising his voice
“I am not wrong, Alpha Vance. Nix is either Melissa’s half sibling or cousin. We have her DNA on our database.”
“I don’t think so. My mate and I are only children.” He is still shouting
“Well then, one of you is his parent!”
“I think we would know if that was the case, don’t you?” The Alpha says, folding his arms in front of him.
“Obviously not!” He growls at me. “The Wolf Council has triple checked the records. He is a 50% match to Melissa. Or her blood work is wrong in our system.”
“Get him up here right now. Let’s sort this out.” Alpha Vance demands. He is seething right now. Reed walked to the door. “Hey Nix, you’re wanted upstairs.”
Nix walks in. He is standing tall and looks dubiously at the men in the room. I offered him a seat next to me.
“The Council Member here tells me you’re related to my Melissa? Is that true?” Alpha Vance says, in a demanding tone.
“No idea. My mom never told me anything about her life before me. She just said she couldn’t go back, and I was her future.” Nix looked at me, confused. “How am I related to Melissa? Is she my cousin or something?”
Alpha Vance’s eyes glaze over, he is mind linking someone. “I have asked my mate to join us. You are only related to her through one of us. She should be here to listen to this.”
The Luna walks in a few seconds later. She smiles at Nix as she walks past him to stand by her mate. She was dressed more like someone who had been training, not really for a meeting like this. But she has been summoned. I guess she could have been doing anything.
“To catch you up, love. The Council Member there believes that Nix is a 50% DNA match to Melissa.” She looks confused. “As neither of us has any siblings, one of us is his parent.” She smirks, “Well, it isn’t me. I would know if I grew a boy that size in my body. I think you may have noticed as well. Where have you been sowing your seed, love?” She asks him jokingly.
“As you know, my love, I was 18 when we discovered we were mates and I have never been unfaithful to you. So that leaves the mystery of how young Nix is related to Melissa?” The Alpha asks Luna, who shrugs her shoulders.
“What was your mom’s name, Nix?” The Luna asked.
“Tia Bird.”
The Luna gasps, “Not Natalia Bird?” She looked like she had just been punched in the gut and leans on the desk in front of her. Alpha Vance turned pale.
“Natalia Bird was part of this pack a long time ago.” He is breathing heavily now. The Luna was looking at him, then at Nix.
“Well, yes, that was her full name, but she only ever went by Tia.”
The guard by the desk smirks “She was a right slut if ever I saw one.”
I saw Nix grit his teeth and go to stand up. He may be wolf less but he is far from powerless. But it was Luna that punched the guard in the face. Not a weak, womanly punch, but a full-on punch. A punch that sent him flying to the ground, with his blood splattering the wall on the way. “Don’t you ever, ever say that about Natalia.” She screamed at him. Beta Colt grabbed her around the waist to stop her from attacking the guard further. “She was the kindest person anyone could ever meet. I will not stand here and allow anyone to tarnish her memory.”
“Get out.” the Alpha yells at the guard. “Before I throw you out of the window.” He runs out of the room. I don’t know what is going on, but something has just happened. Nix was on the edge of his seat but relaxed once he was gone. The Alpha hugs his mate while stroking her hair to calm her down.
He looks at Nix. “Natalia and I dated a long time ago. I loved her so much. I was her ‘always’ and I was her ‘forever’. I was planning on officially naming her my Luna when her wolf appeared. Even if she wasn’t my fated mate, I would have chosen her. I couldn’t have found a better person. She was a gift from the goddess. But she disappeared on her 18th birthday.”
“She was my best friend,” The Luna says. “Me and Vance grieved and mourned her for a long time. But when I turned 18, I discovered Vance was my mate. We never heard from her again. Are you sure it is the same woman, Council Member?”
I say nothing, but Nix reaches to his neck and pulls out a chain, yanking it from around his neck. He throws it at the desk. The Luna picks it up and shows the Alpha, who flips the amulet over before dropping into his chair, nodding. Looking at his mate.
She runs over to Nix, hugging him, crying, “Welcome home.” She says to him. “Welcome home. I wished you’d have brought her with you. I miss her so much.”
It’s a really touching moment, the Alpha realizing he has a son from a previous relationship. The Luna accepting him immediately. Which is unusual, as they want their offspring to ascend. But I have one question. “Who banished Natalia, then?”
They all looked at me. “Well, Nix wasn’t banished. So, it must have been his mother while she was pregnant with him. So, who did it and why?”
Nix’s POV I had to leave Melissa and her mom in the kitchen because I was summoned. I suppose the answers to my future are in that room. I stay confident as I walk into the room, I won't be intimidated by them. I sat down beside Ethan. The Alpha started shooting questions at me straight away. I don’t know the answers to them, and I certainly don’t like his tone. Melissa’s mom walked in. I am guessing she is the Luna, as Melissa’s dad is the Alpha. He told her about what was going on, which was when I got a grasp of the conversation as well. I am just processing what he has said to her when I am asked for my mom’s name. I wasn’t expecting the reaction I got just from that revelation. I found out she was part of this pack when she was younger, but she once told me she couldn’t return. Something is not right with what they are telling me and I believe my mom over this lot any day of the week. A man refers to my mom as a slut! He never just referred to the woman who rai
Council Member Ethan’s POV I couldn’t believe what was unfolding in front of me. The former Alpha abused his authority to banish his son’s girlfriend. So that his son had a better chance of finding his fated mate, he had free will to choose who he wants as his mate. I nearly choked on thin air when he said Natalia’s original surname was ‘Mene’. Does he not know anything, Mene? As in the Moon Goddess is also known as Mene. He is obviously not an intelligent man if he didn’t know that! I dread to think about what the other Council Members will think. I already know he is an arsehole. But when he referred to his granddaughter as a cripple, I couldn’t believe he was ever an Alpha. Alpha Vance was on the brink of killing him. But when Reed yelled, “Get everyone out.” I realized it was Nix I had to be concerned about. He was losing control. “Out” I yelled, joining Reed in his need to get everyone out of the vicinity. “Get them all out.” I saw what Nix did to the protective deta
Nix’s POV Melissa is carried in by her father. He places her gently on a chair. But she stands up straight away and uses the furniture to make her way over to me. She hugs me, telling me how grateful she is that I am okay. She has just met me, but I appreciate her loving gesture. A girl pushes a boy through the door in a wheelchair. They have similar features. I guess they are siblings. She looks to be of a similar age to me, but it’s difficult to age the boy. She places him at the table and puts a backpack I front of him. “I’ll be back soon,” she tells him. “Hey Christina, do you want some food?” The Luna shouts as she is leaving. The girl stops, “I will, when I get back. There is something I need to do before dark.” “Okay, but don’t do anything stupid.” “Me. stupid, as if?” she says, smiling before she leaves. Luna then approaches the boy. “How is she today?” She asks him. “It wasn’t too bad today, to be honest, Luna. She appears to have made
Alpha Vance’s POV I have a son, a son. From a woman I loved a long time ago, a woman who should have been my Luna. I love Stella, I really do, but my life would have been so different if Natalia had stayed. I don’t know how it would have worked out with Stella being her best friend and my mate. But Natalia was my chosen love. I don’t know how she got pregnant. My father was wrong about his decision to banish her. He will forever live with those consequences. But he was right about pregnancies outside of fated mates. They are practically impossible. Nix must be a blessing from the goddess. I sat at a table with Stella, Reed and Nix. He looks to be such a healthy man. It would be wrong to refer to him as a boy. He is as big and as broad as I am. We just sat there in silence, no one knowing what to say. “Eventful day?” Reed says, finally says, breaking the ice. I took a deep breath. “Look, Nix, you have lived a life without us. We have lived a life without you. We
Council Member Ethan’s POV I can’t believe I had to accompany this idiot to the hospital. He will be banished from this pack tomorrow. The only reason they have not banished him already is that I need him to come back to the Wolf Council with me once he has healed. That is, if his wolf can heal him. Nix hurt him badly. Apparently, a person’s eyes and ears bleeding only occurs when there is a change of pressure within the skull. It stumped the doctors, as they have never seen or heard of this occurring in a wolf kingdom. In the human world, yes. But not in the wolf world. I need to know all the details about Natalia Mene. I know she was adopted into the Bird family, but her adoptive parents are dead. Roger is the only one that may have answers. Even snippets of information can be informative. After the Wolf Council has finished with him, I don’t know what they will decide to do with him. I know the Red Moon Pack takes rogues in, but Alpha Isaac is very specific about the r
Nix’s POV We arrived at the pack high school. Melissa is helped out of Stella’s SUV and into a wheelchair. Christina is waiting outside for her. “See you tonight, Christina.” Stella says to her. Christina gave her a weak smile. I don’t know Christina, but she seems unhappy about something. I follow them as Christina navigates Melissa’s wheelchair around the school. She takes her to a classroom where Dylan is sitting, studying. I think he is a bookworm wrapped up in geek’s clothing. Christina offers to take me to the office on her way to her locker. I needed to enroll anyway, so I accepted her offer. “You okay?” I asked her. “I would be if these idiots would leave me alone.” She says angrily. “How can they have pissed you off before the first bell?” She looks at me and laughs. “Follow me.” She turns and walks in the opposite direction. I don’t know where we were going. But when we got there, I saw what had upset her. Someone had written all over the outside of her lo
Alpha Vance’s POV “Why aren’t there any cameras in that school?” Stella was yelling while pacing the length of the house. She is seriously angry and so am I. “That is a deliberate attempt to harm the future Luna of this pack. I want answers.” She demands. Nix walks in and sits at the table, watching Stella let off some steam. “You know it may not have been aimed at Melissa.” Nix says. Stella stops pacing and stares at him. “There are two students in the school who use that bathroom. You said yesterday Dylan is always with Melissa.” I realized what he was saying. “Dylan, it could have easily been Dylan who got hurt today.” Colt, my Beta and his son walk in, as Stella is yelling, “Anyone wanting to hurt either of those kids should be ashamed of themselves. Don’t they struggle enough?” She stomps off to Melissa’s bedroom, where I know Melissa is. I looked at Colt. “Anything?” I asked him. “Nothing,” he responded, shaking his head. “No one has seen anything. Nothing is
Nix’s POV I woke up that morning with a fresh perspective. I will no longer grieve because she is gone. I am going to grieve because I loved her so much. She would be upset that a happy memory made me so sad. I need to smile at the happy times and the happy memories I have. I need to move forward with life and enjoy the memories she has left me with. The house is so quiet when I walk downstairs, but it probably is early for most people here. I walked out to the annex, which was unlocked. Inside there is a large living area, with a small kitchen area in the corner. 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. More than I need, but I will take it. It is the best offer I am going to get to be honest, and what other choices do I really have? There is everything there to get the rooms painted in neutral colors. So, I got started cleaning the rooms, before I started painting. I must have been painting for hours when a bunch of men turned up, ready to do the job I had nearly finished. It’s not a g
