Mabel was still making her way to the car when she felt something graze her arm, causing her to cry out in pain. When she looked at it, she saw her clothes had torn and her skin was very red.
She immediately turned and found the man pointing a gun at her with a crazy look in his eyes. This man was crazy! All she wanted to do was to help him and the asshole actually shot at her.“Are you crazy?!” She yelled at him.“I won’t be nice and miss next time. Apologize for puncturing my tyre,” Christian demanded.“You really haven’t gotten it through your thick skull that I didn’t puncture your tyre. It was a darn coincidence that I showed up,” Mabel scoffed as she stretched her hands towards Rufus.“You have five seconds to…” Christian couldn’t complete his words as he felt something graze his arm and he felt a slight pain. It all happened so fast that he didn’t see it coming. When he looked down, he saw a graze on his arm. She had actually shot him, well, grazed his skin but still.
“You’re lucky I missed at the last minute,” he heard her say, which made him raise his head to look at him. “Don’t glare at me. I basically grazed you like you grazed me,” she scoffed when she saw him glaring at her. She did the same thing he did to her, so they were on even terms.
She actually shot at him, was what was ringing in Christian’s head. He was no stranger to being shot, but this circumstance was shocking to him, even though the bullet had barely touched his skin.
He didn’t have any intention of shooting her, and he just wanted to scare her into apologizing, but the darn driver had a gun, which he gave to the woman. It seemed she wasn’t an ordinary woman, as she shot without hesitation and with precision, as she was able to make the bullet graze him without actually harming him.
“Sir, are you oka…” he heard his driver say, but he raised his hand for the driver to stop talking.
“You shot at me,” he said coldly. This was the first time a woman shot him, much less one he was just meeting for the first time.
“You also shot me,” Mabel retorted.
“I grazed you,” Christian corrected.
“It still equals being shot at,” Mabel shrugged casually. The next thing she saw was Christian raising his gun back at her, and she didn’t hesitate to point hers back at him.
Mabel felt grateful that she had secretly learnt how to fight and how to use a gun, as it proved very helpful in this situation. “See here’s the thing, you seem like a rich man and so, my life is nothing compared to yours. Are you willing to lose your life?”
“Many have tried to kill me but it’s not that easy. If it was, I’d be dead,” Christian retorted as he cocked his gun. He didn’t plan on shooting the woman earlier, but that plan flew out the window, the moment she pulled the damn trigger to scare him.
“So you plan on killing me?” Mabel raised an eyebrow as she also cocked her gun, ready to fire.
Rufus and Hank both held their breaths at this point as they wanted to see what would happen next between the two stubborn people. They were too scared to interfere, as they didn’t want to be at the receiving end of the bullet.
Meanwhile, Mabel and Christian stared fiercely at each other while trying to figure out what the other was thinking. Neither was ready to back down.
She hadn’t planned on shooting at him but the way he was arrogant reminded her of her father and brother which made her unable to hold herself back from actually shooting him as she imagined she was shooting either of the two men. Thankfully, she was able to come back to her senses and graze his arm, instead of actually shooting his arm.
Seeing that she wasn’t backing down, Christian lowered his gun, and so did Mabel. His eyes never left her, and hers didn’t leave him. He saw her eyes move to his gun and upon seeing it still in his hand, she gripped hers tightly.
A phone suddenly rang and this distracted Mabel as she turned to look at her driver who was getting his phone. Seeing that she was no longer paying attention to him, Christian took advantage of that opportunity, and he pointed his gun once again at her and pulled the trigger.
Mabel flinched when she noticed what had happened, and she froze, waiting for the pain to hit her. When a few seconds passed, and she felt none, she looked down at herself and saw that she wasn’t shot.
She raised her head in confusion to look at the crazy man. Did he miss again? She wondered, but she noticed him staring behind her. She followed his line of sight to the tyre of her car and to her horror, she saw he had shot at it.
“You asshole, this isn’t my car!” Mabel cursed in anger. Her father wouldn’t spare her for the damage done to his car, even though it wouldn’t dent his finances in the slightest.
“You punctured my car’s tyres and now, I’ve punctured yours,” Christian answered calmly. He saw anger in her eyes, and her chest heaved up and down. Good, now she knew how angry he felt.
“I didn’t fucking puncture your tyre, you fucking asshole!” Mabel yelled and as she did, she shot the two front tyres of Christian’s car.
“There, I finally did,” she exhaled as her eyes became watery due to her wanting to cry. She was already thinking of her punishment and it terrified her.
Christian turned to look at his deflated tyres, his blood boiling. He couldn’t remember the last time anyone openly challenged him like this. Was this her own game plan to get her to fall for him? He wondered.
Without thinking twice, he moved to shoot at the other back tyre of the car. However, the woman was already standing in front of it as she had envisioned his move.
Mabel was prepared to take the bullet as that would make her father reduce her punishment but Christian had other plans as he shot at the rear wind shield of the car. The glass shattered immediately, much to Mabel’s horror.
It was official, her father would kill her. Her entire face went red, and she pointed her gun at the crazy man’s head.
Damn the consequences, she was going to kill him. All she wanted to do was to help him and it had cost her so much. If she managed to survive this, she was never going to help anyone ever again. Not only would have father have her head for destroying the car he so ‘benevolently’ sent to pick her up, he would cremate her body and scatter her ashes.
Christian in return pointed his gun back at her, ready for whatever was to come. The next thing that happened, however, shocked him as tears started to drop from her eyes.
“I only wanted to help and look at what you’ve fucking done!” she yelled. “I swear, you’re going to regret this!”
“Mabel,” Rufus called when he realized that she was actually going to pull the trigger. He had been quiet, as it wasn’t in his place to intervene, but if he didn’t come in, her life would be ruined.
“Ma’am, we have bigger things to worry about, like the one who just called,” Rufus said, referring to her father so she would come back to her senses. It thankfully did the trick as Mabel slowly lowered her gun. Not wanting to delay anymore, she turned and faced Rufus. “Can you fix the tyre?” she asked him in a shaky voice.“Yes, there’s a spare, but your father is not going to be happy about what happened,” Rufus replied in a whisper.“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there, please fix the car,” Mabel requested and Rufus immediately got to work. Not wanting to give in to the urge to kill the crazy man, Mabel walked away from the car while waiting for Rufus to finish.“I’ll call for another car, sir,” Christian’s driver said and he immediately brought out his phone. Christian didn’t say anything, instead, he focused his attention on the woman who now stood at a distance from him. He saw her pacing around, and his eyes furrowed when he noticed that she was shaking. He was no expe
"I-i," Mabel stuttered as she didn't know what to say.How was she supposed to help when the family didn't even include her in anything they did? She had no idea who this supposed family was and why they were her family's enemy. All she knew about the Romeros was that they were her family's arch-enemy. Nothing more, nothing less."Don't worry, I already have a task for her," Anthony responded to Kendra and Mabel knew she wasn't going to like the task as it would be close to impossible. The rest of dinner went by silently for Mabel as the rest of the family talked while she just stared at her empty plate as she was unable to eat anything.“Honey, aren’t you going to eat anything?” Claire asked after they were done having dinner.“Mom, leave her alone, any more food and she’ll blow up like an inflated balloon,” Kendra mocked Mabel. “Just a few years apart from us and you have gained so much weight.”“I’ll go get settled in,” Mabel said, immediately standing up from her seat. “Excuse me,”
Mabel woke up the next morning to the sound of someone banging on her door. She groaned in annoyance as she had barely gotten any sleep due to her trying to clear the dust from her room."Wake up, you fat pig," she heard her half-sister's voice, and this just urged her to continue her sleep."Fine, I'll go tell Dad that you refused to see him after he called you," she heard Kendra say, and this was effective in getting Mabel up.She jumped off her bed and opened the door to find an annoyed Kendra at her door. "You fat pig, do you know how long I've been at the door?!""Less than three minutes," Mabel rolled her eyes at her overly dramatic sister."Wow, someone seems to have grown some guts after spending time away from us," Kendra sneered and she dragged Mabel by her hair. The latter was left helpless as if she touched Kendra, her father and stepmother wouldn't spare her."Just because you managed to get into that prestigious college and graduate top of your class doesn't change the f
Anthony had everything planned out. He was tired of Mabel and he finally wanted to take her out. She would die without him having to touch her and he would take down Christian. The two biggest problems in his life would be out for good. It was like killing two birds with one stone.“Keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t mess up the plan. Use force if necessary,” Anthony instructed his son.“With pleasure,” Kelvin responded with a devious smile on his face. It had been a long time since he had fun with Mabel and he had missed it a lot. After Mabel left her father’s study, she headed straight to her room. Thankfully, she hadn’t unpacked yet and so she didn’t have to go through the stress of packing her bags once again. She was however met by someone when she got to her room and that was her stepmother.Mabel took a deep breath as she knew that the woman didn’t have any good intentions coming there. “Mother,” she called.Claire turned to look at her and in her hands was the takeou
When Christian woke up the next day, he was more calm and composed than the previous night but that didn’t mean he was going to let the lady go scot-free.He immediately got himself ready for the office after which he left his house. As per his custom, his driver drove him to the coffee shop his mother owned, where he usually got coffee every morning before going to the office. When he however got there, he found someone else already in the shop. This made him frown a bit as he had given strict orders that no one should be allowed in until after he got his coffee in order to avoid dealing with anyone. In case he didn’t show up by a particular time, the coffee shop was free to open. He looked at his watch and it wasn’t even yet time so why was someone already in it.Without wasting time, he made his way over to the woman who didn’t know he was there as she had her back turned to him. As he got closer, he realized that there was something annoyingly familiar about her. His eyes went o
‘It would have been better if I stayed at home and dealt with my family than having to deal with him,’ Mabel muttered to herself as she walked on the sidewalk. Not only was her mood ruined, but she didn’t get her coffee and now she wasn’t in the mood for it anymore.Wanting to get her mind off what had just happened, she brought out her phone and proceeded to call someone she hadn’t heard from in four years, her grandparents.Just like the last four years when she had tried to get in touch with them, the call didn’t go through and the guilt hit her once again as she was the reason why her life was in danger. If they had just abandoned her after the death of their daughter, they would have led peaceful lives. After her father made her leave the country, her grandparents kept in touch with her and sent her money for her upkeep. They were careful with it but somehow, her father found out and he was unhappy with it. He said they were just spoiling her and that she wouldn’t be able to s
Christian looked at his father and then at Dorian, he was sure they were planning something devious as they often plotted against him. "Oh yes, I almost forgot to tell you. I was going through the applications and I found the perfect person," Reginald informed Christian. He grinned inwardly as his son wasn't going to like it at all but maybe a woman who could take Christian head on was what his son needed.'You're about to go for the ride of a lifetime, you asshole,' Dorian muttered under his breath. The rest of breakfast went by with them discussing other light-hearted issues and Reginald having spent some time with his sons, retired to his room. “What twisted game are you playing this time, Dorian?” Christian immediately fired at the latter as soon as they were alone.“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Dorian feigned innocence. “It is unclear to me as to how you knew about her when you weren’t there last night and today, somehow, you knew she was going to be at the cof
“You know you’ll get into trouble with my family right?” Mabel asked as she turned to look at the car that had been following them since they left the Deville mansion.“Wouldn’t be the first time, let’s go,” Rufus shrugged as he started to make his way inside.“Have I told you how much I love you?” Mabel yelled after him.“That’s cute but I’m not interested in getting into a relationship with you,” Rufus retorted and this made Mabel smile.Even though Rufus said he would help out a bit, he didn’t however leave until they had arranged and cleaned everywhere. By the time he left, it was already dark and Mabel was beyond exhausted. Without bothering to find out who Christian Romero was, she climbed her bed and fell asleep.**** “Hmm,” Mabel groaned when the sun hit her face. She immediately used the duvet to cover it. However, she found herself unable to go back to sleep for some reason.‘Shit!’ she suddenly cursed and jumped out of her bed. She turned to look at the time and cursed on
