Thinking of the events that had happened two nights before, did nothing to soothe Adelynn's nerves as she sit in her office staring at the screen of her laptop, blankly. She had run into her boss earlier and had awkwardly greeted him. He hadn't said anything either and she was grateful for that. She wouldn't have known what to say to him if he'd decided to strike a conversation with her. She let out a sigh and squeezed her eyes shut, trying to get rid of the image of Jensen kissing her, from her mind. It was no use. It kept replaying over and over again in her mind. Frustrated, she slammed her palm against the top of her desk, her eyes glassy. Her head shot up at the sound of a knock on her door.
Hesitantly, she said, "Come in". She watched quietly as the door swung open and Jensen walked in with a grim look on his face. His jawline was dotted with stubble and there were bags under his eyes. This was unusual. Adelynn stared at him as h"Look at me, Dom. Focus on me, on what's real" Adelynn whispered, her palm resting on the side of Dominic's face. "I can't-""Sh!" She cut him off, bringing his palm to her chest. "Can you feel that? That's my heartbeat. I'm right here with you. This is real" she whispered and he closed his eyes, his breathing slowly evening out. Adelynn watched him as he rested his head on her laps. She gently stroked his dark hair, whispering soothing words into his ears. "I'm sorry" Dominic croaked after a while. "You don't have to apologise over what you didn't have control over" Adelynn said, her voice soft. Dominic closed his eyes, the ache in his chest growing."You're not going to ask me what my nightmare was about?" He rasped, his eyes still closed. "I want you to take your time. I don't want to pressure you" They were both silent for a little while. "My nightmare was a reminder of what happened to me
The persistent ringing of Dominic's Android phone awoke him from his slumber. Squinting at the rays of the morning sunlight pouring through the half open window blinds of his study, he sat up. He was terribly hungover. Moreso, his mind was hazy. He blinked several times to get rid of the blurriness of his vision. Rubbing a palm over his face, he picked up his ringing phone. Then, he swiped his thumb across the screen before bringing it to his ear."Have you been ignoring my calls?" Adelynn demanded and he winced."Lower your voice, will you?" He rasped, his voice hoarse. Adelynn was startled by his response. She suspected at once that he was hungover. "Have you been drinking?" She probed, her voice lowered. He ignored her question and said, "What did you mean by what you said yesterday? I didn't go on a date with anyone""You expect me to believe that?" Adelynn questioned, her voice tinged with
Tension hung heavy in the air as Dominic and Adelynn stared at each other. "I'm sorry-""You're sorry? Sorry doesn't cut it, Adelynn! Do you have any idea how upset I have been?" Dominic said, the look in his eyes, menacing."I was upset, okay? I thought you were cheating on me" Dominic's expression faltered, a bewildered look in his eyes."What are you talking about?" He asked. "I saw you in a diner with a blonde. You looked like you were on a date with her"Dominic's eyes widened and everything suddenly clicked. Was that why she'd been acting so coldly towards him? How could she have seen him? "Why didn't you at least ask me to give you an explanation? The woman in question is my cousin, for goodness sake!" A lump lodged itself in Adelynn's throat. "I'm sorry. I really am"Dominic stared at her for a few seconds before he stormed out of the bedroom, slamming the door shut. Adel
"I kissed Jensen"Those words made Dominic's heart ache. He was afraid that his fear was already starting to come true. If Jensen was already starting to penetrate his wife's heart, things weren't working out well on his own side. He knew he had to act fast. He'd been too quiet for far too long. When Dominic continued to stare at Adelynn with a blank look on his face, she became even more nervous."Dominic-" He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I know that already" he droned. Adelynn was confused."What do you mean?" Dominic didn't want her to know about the fact that Jensen had bragged about kissing Adelynn to him. "I had a hunch" Adelynn lowered her gaze, guilt-ridden. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to"He sighed and looked away."Damn it, Adelynn. Stop making me so upset and bitter. For goodness sake, don't give in to him. He's your ex and I'm your husband, s
"Are you in love with him?" Dominic asked as he descended the stairs, two at a time. His eyes had gone cold and from the menacing look on his face, Adelynn knew she'd messed up big time. "Answer me!"She flinched, looking anywhere but at him."I don't- I don't know""You don't know? You really don't know?! How long will you continue to keep this up? First, you let him kiss you and I thought that it was because he'd manipulated you. Then, you decided to leave without telling me because you wanted to get back at me for supposedly going on a date with another woman. Now, you're thinking that you're in love with your fucking exboyfriend even when you know you're married?!" He demanded, his tone as sharp as the glinting edge of a knife."Dominic, I didn't mean-""All along, I really thought that you were worth it. I was willing to be patient with you, considering the circumstances surrounding our marriage. I tried to understand why yo
"You can't possibly be quitting already. Addie, you're not thinking about this thoroughly. Are you really sure that Jensen is the man for you?" Sue asked her friend. They were both sitting side by side on a couch in Sue's sitting room. A movie was playing on the TV and Sue's brown cat was curled up on her lap. Adelynn was the picture of miserable. Her eyes were red rimmed and there were dark circles under her eyes. Her hair was barely contained in a messy ponytail and she was dressed in a large dark blue sweater and snug, white jeans trousers. Adelynn blew her nose with the tissue Sue had given her, her mascara smudged."I don't know what else to do, Sue. I can't stop thinking about Jensen and I can't be with Dominic because I feel guilty" Adelynn said.Sue embraced her friend and patted her back gently."Addie, you said it yourself. You are confused. Do you really want to get a divorce because of Jensen? Is he really worth it? Will you be
Eight years ago, Teens were everywhere and most of them were drunk. The ones who weren't completely drunk yet, were playing beer pong. Music played in the background and multicolored lights illuminated the whole place. Adelynn was sitting by the corner, staring at her cup of vodka. She was just sixteen years old and had been invited to Jensen's birthday party. She didn't feel like she was enjoying herself because she hated the crowd. Loud parties were so not her thing. "Hey! There you are!" Allen, her bestfriend said as he approached her, a cup of vodka in his hand. His blackhair was messily pushed back away from his forehead and his blue eyes glinted with mischief. He sat down beside her and took her vodka from her."Hey! That's mine" she protested. "Not anymore. Linnie, you're only sixteen and I really don't want you to get drunk" he said and she glared at him. "
Dominic awoke for the first time in months, to find his wife lying in his arms. She was still asleep and didn't seem like she was going to stir anytime soon. Dominic's gaze flickered to the digital clock on the night stand. The time was seven minutes past eight. Usually, the couple would have awoken and left for work. Dominic quietly stared at Adelynn, noticing the moles on her neck. He appreciated her natural beauty, hoping that they would stay in each other's arms for a little while longer. A sharp pain tore through his stomach and he winced. He had been getting these sharp pains in his stomach for a while. But, he'd ignored it at first. At this point, it was getting worse. So, he decided that he would have to see the doctor soon. Suddenly exhausted, he felt himself succumb to his drowsiness. Adelynn awoke thirty minutes later, she slowly turned to face her husband even with his arms still around her.
