Hades

My head shifted as I looked up, my eyes meeting the man standing in front of us. He was tall and muscular with tattoos scattered on each arm; his jawline was sharp and his facial features were crisp. There was something about his demeanor that was just so cold and off-putting, but I couldn't exactly pinpoint anything. I continued to examine him before something in particular caught my attention.

A tattoo was engraved on the lower center of his neck, the tattoo used to identify The Skulls. But that wasn't what threw me off, though. What threw me off was the word tatted right below it.

"Hades"

So that's why his demeanor is the way it is.

I quickly looked back down, realizing who we were standing in front of.

Callum Hades Rivers; the youngest man to ever lead the mafia, let alone the highest ranking mafia.

Also known as Hades, the merciless man who kills anyone who gets in his way and is nothing less than the most feared.

Shit.

I gulped, letting my thoughts devour me. Here we were, standing in front of our mafia's biggest enemy, and he just told his guards not to kill us. Why would he do such a thing?

If I could, I'd slit his throat open and feed it to him.

"Go get some chairs," he ordered one of the guards, eyeing us down with a slight smirk on his face.

The guard quickly rushed out and grabbed three foldable chairs, placing one behind each of us.

"Sit."

With the guns still pointed at us, we kept our hands in the air as we slowly sat down, keeping our eyes on Callum. He motioned for his guards to put the guns down, and after they did, we finally did the same with our hands.

I kept my eyes fixated on him, warily analyzing him and his every move. Just because he didn't kill us didn't mean we were in the clear. If anything, him keeping us alive was even more of a red flag.

I finally shifted my eyes towards both of the guards, taking my time to analyze each one.

The one next to me was buff and at least six feet tall. He had several scars on his face, indicating his several years of experience.

The one next to Zeke had a smaller physique, but was still impressively muscular. He was around 5'9, but his body build told me that he was skilled with agility and speed.

My attention reverted to the man in front of us once he spoke.

"What mafia?" was all he asked. I sat up straight and put my hands on my lap, crossing my legs.

"The Spades," I spat, glaring at him. Just because he could kill me whenever he felt like it didn't mean I wouldn't give him an attitude.

He looked at me, raising his eyebrows.

"What are your names?"

I glanced over at Zeke. He looked over at me before nodding, giving me permission to give out our names. Surprisingly, he didn't seem so nervous. He was actually quite calm for a first-timer.

"Athena Hendrix and Zeke Emerson."

Callum nodded, examining both of us carefully. He put his elbow on his knee and rested his chin on his hand before speaking once more.

"You must be his daughter," he said with a low tone. I nodded, smiling innocently.

"He sent us here to steal your drugs. And I mean, honestly, I'm not surprised," I said casually, pointing at all the random containers. "Like look at this place, it's fucking loaded!" I chuckled a bit as I looked back at him. He glared at me as his upper lip twitched, obviously pissed.

Good. You can piss off, Callum.

He stood up, grabbing one of his guard's guns and walking over towards me. I hid my nervousness through a seemingly smug smirk, still keeping my composure.

Zeke eyed us carefully, afraid he would finally kill me.

He stopped in front of me and used his finger to tilt my chin up before staring straight into my eyes, holding the gun right next to my head. He inched closer as he removed his hand from my chin and put it on the chair behind me.

"I don't know who the fuck you think you are sweetheart, but don't try to act all tough. I don't hit women, but I don't let people who disrespect me live to see another day. So fix your shitty attitude, and be a good fucking girl," he threatened with a low voice, the pressure of the gun on my head increasing. I looked him straight in the eye and nodded, deciding to comply and obey his orders. He pushed the gun off of my head and took a deep breath in, giving me a smile before heading back to his seat and sitting back down.

Zeke cleared his throat, clearly uncomfortable with what just happened.

I clenched my jaw. I knew the only reason why he had to get that close to me was to express how powerless I actually was. He wanted to let me know I couldn't do shit, even if I wanted to. He was mocking me, and he was so good at it, it pissed me off. I closed my eyes and exhaled, making sure my anger didn't get the best of me.

After a few seconds, I opened my eyes, only to see Callum staring right at me. I huffed out a breath as I looked away, wanting him out of my sight.

"Zeke, how long have you been in the mafia?" Callum asked as he looked over in his direction.

"About two years now," Zeke responded.

"And how many missions like this have you been on?"

Zeke glanced over at me, a hint of nervousness in his eyes. I shrugged, indicating that it would be okay to tell him the truth.

"This is my first time," he said in a sort of embarrassed tone.

Callum raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "You mean to tell me that your little mafia boss decided to send noobs to try and raid one of my bases? Bullshit. Does he underestimate me," he growled. He banged the gun against the edge of the chair, causing a loud noise to echo in the room. Zeke and I looked at each other, unsure of what exactly to do.

The next few minutes were spent sitting there in silence, the tension speaking for itself as we all eyed each other carefully. The guards stood there silently, watching our every move. Callum still had one of the guard's guns, but the guard's build was more than enough to confirm that he wouldn't need a gun to kill us.

As I sat there quietly, I began to let my thoughts take over.

Why hadn't he killed us yet? Or at least, why hasn't he killed me? I've been nothing but a bitch this whole time, and all he's done was hold me at gun point. Wasn't he the one and only Hades? The one and only man who'd kill, even if it was just for fun? Didn't he want to kill us? I mean, if I were him, I'd kill us on the spot, I wondered to myself.

My trance was interrupted by the loud ring of Callum's phone.

He quickly took it out of his pocket and looked at the number. He grunted as he stared at his phone, using one hand to push his hair back in frustration. Pausing, he cursed under his breath before tapping on the screen.

He answered it, standing up. "Hello," he said in a monotone voice before facing his back towards us and making his way to the exit.

We continued to sit there in silence. After watching Callum leave, my attention quickly shifted once Zeke cleared his throat. I looked over at him as he gave me a weird look, planning something in his head. I furrowed my eyebrows but shrugged my shoulders soon after, not questioning too much.

If it'd get us out of this mess, so be it.

As Callum disappeared from our sight, we started to fidget in our seats. The guards were still there, but they had their attention focused more on their boss who had just left. Their eyes were heavily glued to the door, seemingly waiting for whatever command they'd get next.

"Excuse me, but can I use the bathroom?" Zeke asked politely with a semi monotone voice, looking at one of the guards.

The guards looked at each other.

"No," he snarled, looking down on Zeke.

"I really need it, it's urgent," he continued, a certain tone in his voice.

He was faking it.

After a bit of hesitation, the guard sighed, looked at the other guard, then looked back at Zeke.

"Follow me," one of them said as he made his way towards the door. I watched carefully, anticipating what to do next.

Before I could make a move, Zeke tapped the guard, causing him to turn around and receive a punch in the face. Zeke got in a couple more punches before knocking him down, though he was still conscious.

The guard beside me had tried to rush his way over to them, but I quickly put my foot out to trip him. As he stumbled, I stood and kicked him down. I was going to grab the weapons that the guards had taken from us earlier, but I immediately changed my mind after realizing we didn't have any time to waste.

Callum was just outside, so weapons should've been the least of my concerns.

As I was running towards Zeke and the other guard, I was brought to an abrupt stop. The guard I knocked over had pulled on my leg, causing me to fall straight on the ground. I hit my chin, the impact causing me to bite my lip. I winced in pain, knowing that it would probably leave a small bruise. I turned around and used my free leg to kick his face, his grip on me loosening as he distracted himself with the pain. I kicked one more time before he released his grip completely, giving me the chance to rush back up on my feet and get to my partner.

As I was about to reach him, a figure of a man came into view. He was leaning against the door frame, watching nonchalantly as all of this chaos unraveled in front of him.

He finished his call.

All I heard was the clicking of his tongue before a shot rang out and overwhelmed my ears.

Suddenly, everything went pitch black.
