Chapter 4

I awoke to the smell of bacon and coffee I had one leg hanging off the couch and my body was partially covered by a purple fuzzy throw blanket that Amber undoubtably covered me with after I fell asleep. I sat up on the couch yawning and rubbing my eyes, when my eyes started to focus, I could see Amber in the kitchen making breakfast.

"Good morning lazy bones!" She called from the kitchen.

"What's so good about it?" I shouted back to her in a joking yet serious voice.

"Oh, that's right I forgot you are not a morning person." She answered

I got off the couch and headed into the kitchen. “No, but food does make it better”

"There is coffee in the pot on the counter." Amber instructed

"Do you know where I left my phone?” I questioned while looking around the kitchen “I think I want to start looking for a job."

"Yeah, it's by the coffee pot" she answered over her shoulder while she was standing in front of the stove frying a large pan of bacon. “Why do you want a job?”

“I think I would like something part-time, maybe it will help make me feel more grounded here. I never could have one in my old pack since I played such a big role in training other members” I poured myself a cup of coffee and started surfing for a part time job.

“Yeah, I guess that makes sense” Amber shrugged as she scooped the bacon out of that skillet and onto a plate.

A couple jobs caught my eye.

"Do I need pack approval to work?" I asked Amber, since packs can vary on such matters. Some jobs aren't approved because they are risky.

"Not really, you just need to register it with the pack once you have the job." She replied

"Ok great, there is a craft store in town looking for someone part-time, only one to two days a week. I think I'm going to go check it out. Right after I have some delicious bacon and eggs" I smiled at her as she was putting the food on the table. “Need help with anything?”

"Nope, just clearing all this food off the plate.” She shoved some bacon into her mouth “oh will you go by the bakery and get some pink icing cookies? It is right across the street from the craft store." Amber asked with her hand over her mouth that was still quite full of bacon.

"Of course," I answered "and when I get back, we can do some training" I say as my eyes light up and a smirk forms across my face, because I know Amber isn’t a fan of training but I always make her do it anyways.

"Ugh are you serious" Amber answered rolling her eyes.

"Yes, I'm serious, besides you could use a little extra muscle, it will make you look sexy" I giggled and winked at her. Training was one of my favorite things to do, it didn't require much talking and it was a great excuse to be outside. It also helped that I was exceptionally good at combat.

Amber jokingly gasped in response "Girl what are you talking about I'm already sexy!"

I gave her a wink; the rest of the meal was passed with little to no talking and once I was done.

I ran upstairs to change into my trusty black leggings, black yoga sandals and a purple halter dress. I quickly braided my hair into a relaxed French braid and Then I headed into town, the craft store was on Main Street and surprisingly in this small town the Main Street was still doing pretty good. Several shops and restaurants were open, creating a cute comforting atmosphere.

I parallel parked in front of the craft store. I took a few deep breaths to calm my nerves, I haven’t really ever had to interview for a job before or even ask for one, in my old pack I was just more or less tasked with what I would do. I headed inside to hopefully procure a job. The craft store smelled as they usually do, artificial flowers and new material, I found the smell very comforting. It was clean and neat inside. I went up to the little counter where an older lady was sitting by the cash register reading. She had a smaller stature and her salt and pepper hair was styled in a pixie cut. She removed her reading glasses and looked at me.

"Can I help you?" She asked

"Yes, I just wanted to drop off my resume I seen you were looking for someone part time." I answered

"Why yes I am, do you have some time to chat now, dear?" She asked while looking over my resume.

I replied that I did, and we had a nice chat. She decided to give me a chance and told me to come back in a few days. She wanted to give me a chance to get more settled in. I thanked her for her time and the job and headed for the door.

Part time job, check! Things are going good so far. I pushed open the door and the air from outside rushed in and I smelled something amazing. It was like smelling a fresh spring morning and it was intoxicating. The sweetness coated my lungs, and I swore I could almost taste it.
