CHAPTER FOURTY-ONE

REINA’S POV

Happiness begets pain, pain begets anger and anger begets mistakes, so I’m doing you a favor. Your unhappiness is your saving grace.

My uncle’s words ring in my head as I lay my head on the desk trying to put together reasons why I should endure the heartache of being without Jasmine, who is my only family left.

I try to convince myself that I’m not being delusional about the fact that she’s in danger and that there’s no way she’d up and leave me without any reason.

I vehemently tell myself that she is trapped somewhere that’s why she hasn’t come back to check on me, even once, and not because she simply doesn’t care enough to.

Most of all, I desperately will myself to believe that the woman I’ve known and loved all my life didn’t believe that I would be fine with her disappearing on me without any pre-warning.

But of course, it’s unlike her, that’s why I have to get to the root of this issue.
