Chapter three :A new fear

She couldn't believe her eyes, her aunt Jessica covered her face with the duvet, and without a word Catherine walked out leaving them.

Catherine immediately sunk down in her room as tears rolled down her eyelids as she wiped them off. She couldn't help but think about why her dad would act that way, not caring less in any way.

What boiled her heart most was Jessica, instead of supporting her sister she is betraying her.

"Hope my sister doesn't do this to me." She muttered, sneezing and wiping off the tears rolling from her eyes.

"When will Lisa be back from lectures today? I really need someone to talk to now. I am so depressed, God please make this pain go away." She closed her eyes and tried to sleep but she could not find sleep.

She stands up and walks around the house. She halts at the living room and sinks on the bed. Her thoughts wandered to where she could go or whom she would call but her brain was cloudy.

She immediately looks up when she sees footsteps, she sees Jessica standing there at the entrance looking at her and her hands folded as if in a plea.

Catherine's face flushed red as she saw Jessica coming closer to her without a word. She felt like raining abuses on Jessica but on the condition that she didn't want to say something crazy even if she had the right to.

Jessica is just six years older than Catherine and she respects her and takes her like her older sister but here she was looking all like a devil to her.

 Devil with invisible horns.

"How could you?" Catherine said in her head as Jessica took a step close to her and sat a few inches away from her.

Jessica's face masked fear as she opened her mouth to talk.

"Umm uh Catherine, I am really sorry about what you saw and what happened. I am really sorry...I am deeply sorry" She placed her hands softly on Catherine's hands but Catherine lifted it up and placed it on the couch without a word.

Jessica continues to talk, stuttering and maintaining eye contact with Catherine." Um, can..can you do me a favor and not tell your mom please?" She got down on her knees but Catherine averted her face standing up she walked away from her.

" Please I am sorry" she pleaded and Catherine halted, turning to face Jessica.

"Oh really? Is that so? I shouldn't tell my mom. Then why do what you did? Sleeping with her husband? Your sister's husband for goodness sake."

The door creaked open and Natasha stepped in grabbing the whole scene with surprise on her face. Jessica quickly got up from the floor as she saw her and tried to adjust herself and act like nothing happened.

"What's going on here? Why were you on your knees, Jessica?" She asked, taking slow steps to her.

Without waiting for Jessica's response "Catherine, why did you get home so quickly? Do you have night shifts today? Or?" Natasha dropped her bags down on the couch.

"No, I lost my job." Catherine sighed and took a deep breath.

"Oh my God, what happened?" Natasha worriedly asked. Just then, Catherine's phone rings.

She looked at the screen of her phone and the caller ID showed "the nurse". This was the nurse she asked to check up on her mother for her. She immediately clicked on the answer button on the phone.

"Your attention is really needed at the hospital now and don't forget to bring some cash along with you." The nurse spoke as if in a hurry and immediately ended the call.

Catherine's mind flew, "It's mom, an emergency" She yelled and ran into her room to grab her purse. Without changing to wear a proper outfit she runs out of the house.

Thirty minutes later, Catherine arrived at the hospital. As she comes down from the vehicle, she runs quickly Into her mom's wards to attend to her but a nurse stops her from entering.

"What is it? Why are you not letting me in? I want to see my Mom!!" Catherine screamed at the top of her voice as tears rolled down her eyes.

"Calm down!! Everything is in control, she just needs rest and would be perfectly fine." The nurse responded in a calm tone but Catherine did not agree with what she was told. She still continues to scream and finally, they let her in.

As she stepped in, her mom's eyes were faint and she could not even speak up. Her mother, Mrs Carolina lifts up her hand slowly but Catherine puts it down and tells her not to talk.

Carolina continued to force herself to talk while she coughed and her breaths were getting higher. " The doctor said I need a transplant," She coughed and forced herself to smile.

"How's my husband? Your father" Carolina asked.

Catherine's heart clenched tightly as flashbacks of her father and Jessica on the bed replayed on her face.

"Do I tell her what happened? I'm so pained right now. How could she?" The voices in her head interacted.

She smiled at her beautiful mom on the bed. "He is living his life," Catherine replied.

"I hope you are taking good care of your sister, I really want to see her right now," Her mom said in a lower tone and coughed again.

"You'd see her when you get home Mom?" Catherine responded, fighting back the tears in her eyes as she continuously blinked.

She wanted to ask how much it would cost for a heart transplant but the money for the transplant would be almost a million dollars.

She also knew that if she told her mom about what had just happened at home, she would be putting her mom's health in a terrible condition.

Mrs Carolina in a faint voice said "I love you, my daughter and your sister too. Make sure nothing separates you both."

Catherine's heart starts beating fast, she can feel a new fear setting in. Carolina starts coughing uncontrollably and Catherine runs to get the nurse.

As the nurse tries to put everything in the right condition for Carolina. The machine showed that her lifeline was depressing.

Carolina holds her mom's hand, her mother smiles at her and takes her last heavy breath.
