CHAPTER THREE

"oh, I am sorry about that, I didn't mean to....

"it's fine Jesse, you don't have to worry about it" Rey interrupted.

Both Rey and Jesse kept silent making the situation a little uncomfortable.

"oh well, I have to get going now. I have a meeting in about 30 minutes. I see you some time" Jesse said this and walked away. she felt rather uncomfortable having to make Rey mention his late wife. No one likes to talk about death especially if it's about their loved ones...only a few would actually talk about in a relaxed way.

losing her mother at a young age hit Jesse badly. Her father made time for her but that didn't dispute the fact that he was mostly busy.

After a few days, the two got talking and began to get fond of each other.

Mr Lee noticed his daughter's recent behavior and took a deep look at her.

Jesse had no idea she was being glared at by her father. she was smiling and seemed to be enjoying the conversation she was having on phone.

"I hope the boy making my daughter happy is really worthy to be with her. Otherwise, I will ask my men to lock him up"

Jesse froze upon hearing her father's words, "D-Dad, I-I, he is just my friend. there is no need for you to go all out" Jesse responded in a tensed tone.

"whatever it is, I am your father and I see how happy you look especially when you are on the phone. Just take care of yourself always. You are just not any young lady but you are my daughter, some will come in sheep's clothing, win your trust and make you love them just for them to come back and stab you in the back. Find a young and responsible young man, just not a scam man" Mr Lee spoke in a resolute tone.

Jesse felt tensed, her father precisely said"young man" and she was enjoying the company of a man old enough to be her father.

"Jesse! I have made myself clear. I don't want to see any guy without potential around you, I hope I have made myself clear"

Jesse got startled, "yes, yes Dad I understand".

Mr Lee stood up and left, he didn't want to feel bored as his daughter totally ignored his presence.

This night, Jesse had mixed emotions, this man Rey, was exactly what she needed in a man. He made her happy and she fantasized about their future together.

She grabbed her phone and decided to call her best friend. "uhm Clara dearest, how have you been?" Jesse spoke in a lazy tone.

"you! you totally forgot about my existence and now you just want to act like it's nothing? Jesse I am more than your friend so please don't treat me like an animal please" Clara continuously ranted on the phone.

Jesse on the other end rolled her eyes lazily and knew what to do to, " tomorrow I will take you out for shopping. The bill is on me"

Clara on the other end was silent for some seconds before responding, "no, I don't feel like shopping"

"okay fine, I will take you out for a private boat cruise and we will spend the night at sunset star hotel" Jesse came up with another suggestion.

"good, very good. we have a date then. Pick me up tomorrow at 10. I will be waiting for you my favorite person" Clara chuckled playfully after saying this and hung up without giving Jesse the chance to retort.

The next day, Jesse freshened up, packed a few clothes then went to her father's study before leaving.

She reached the door and exhaled deeply before knocking.

Without waiting for any response, she pushed the door open and walked in.

"Daddy, good morning, how are you?"

Jesse greeted her father cheerfully.

Mr Lee who was immensely focused on the document in his hand slowly raised his head and smiled.

"And where is my little girl going too?"

"well, Dad, I'm taking Clara out, she is mad at me and I need to make it up to her"

"oh yes, I was actually having a chat with her father last night... anyways, you can go. just take care of yourself and make sure you come back home by tomorrow, I know how you two like to spend time outside. I will ask jack to accompany both of you"

"No, no Dad. I am grown, allow me to just be with my friend alone. We both feel suffocated being watched by our fathers men. if it's not your men, then it's Clara's men guarding us. How will I ever find a boyfriend with a bodyguard always being on my neck?" Jesse retorted.

Mr Lee sighed, "okay okay fine. I will let you go by yourself. just take care of yourself and Incase you are in trouble, you know what to do".

Jesse was so excited and soon she was out of the house, heading towards Clara's family house.

As soon as she picked up her best friend, the two were on their way to their destination and drove for 8-9hours straight up.

After their arrival, they settled in and made sure to book one room. They wanted to have the chance to catch up on everything that was missed out.

"hey, Jesse, who is this Rey? he has been calling you continuously" Clara called out for Jesse who was in the bathroom.

Upon hearing the name Rey, Jesse rushed out of the bathroom and grabbed her phone.

"oh no, my goodness! I forgot to remove my phone from silent mode...shit!

Clara who was seated on the bed raised her brow, "who is he? why don't I know him?"

Jesse dialed Rey's number and called him immediately.

"Jesse I'm asking you a...

"quiet down Clara" Jesse interrupted.

" hey, I am sorry I put my phone on silent and I forgot to...

"it's okay, where are you?" Rey asked directly.

"I am sunset star with my friend...I just thought of

beep, beep, beep the call ended. Jesse was shocked and wondered why Rey would hung up just like that .
