Chapter 4 Feeling Guilty

Gabriel's P.O.V.

Seeing her slam the door so hard, my heart sank. I have never seen Maddie in this state before. Oh right, I cheated. What did I expect?

I went to the sofa and sat trying to think of a way to reverse this, though impossible. I still had to try

“What did I do?”

“Why did I have to sleep with Emily, my secretary?” asking questions I already had the answer to.

I know why she was there; I was feeling down about Maddison waiting to have kids. Emily said, if she were my wife, she wouldn’t make me wait. Sleeping with her this past year was a good idea, and it did make me feel better for a while, I had to admit.

Then Maddison found out and now everything has gone to hell in a handbasket, and it is all my fault. I don’t even know if I can fix it or if she will ever forgive me. I had to find a way to get her to forgive me, even if I had to crawl on my knees.

Not only that, but I decided to head home after waking up to Leon, the bar owner. Whom I slept with in Gabriel’s office. Oh boy, is he going to lose his s**t when he sees his office? I called for an Uber and said to Leon, thank you for making me feel better, even if it was for one night. However, you might want to leave as well before security gets here.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, he says. Are you certain that you will be fine going home? He asks me. I am sure I need to go home and talk to Gabriel anyway. Alright, then I will see you around. You definitely will as I kiss him seductively on the lips.

When I get home, all the lights are off because it is still a little dark outside. I walk into the house searching for the light switch, once I find it, then I flip it on. There sitting on the couch is Gabe with his head in his hands.

Seeing this pulled at my heartstrings, but then I remembered what he confessed to me. I straighten up and wipe the tears from my face while putting on a brave face. Gabriel, I’m back, he looks up with the saddest look in his eyes. However, the look goes away he asks me so babe how was your night? As he looks at me intensely. Where did you go? I just went for a drive, then I ran into that secretary of yours. I was at a stop light thinking everything through when she honked at me.

Furthermore, I didn’t know the light had turned green while I was sitting there contemplating what to do. She had driven by me and flipped me off. Now, mind you, I wasn’t in the right state of mind to be messed with. Does she know that I am your wife, has she seen the wedding photo on your desk? Yes, she knows you're my wife. What is with the question?

Maddison, what did you do? I didn’t do anything except maybe slap her for insulting me. My apologies for slapping her. Nope, wait a second, what am I apologizing for?

I don’t know or remember falling asleep, Gabriel was looking at me. He was seething with rage.

“What did you do to my office?” He asked me.

“I believe that I was drunk when I wrecked your office, and please stop smudging headaches ”, I said, rubbing my temples. I’m trying to look for some aspirin to get rid of this hangover. You’re being a little loud.

Am I being too loud? Okay, then maybe I should talk in a whisper like this, “WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY OFFICE?” As if he didn’t know already after being there last night.

I thought you said you were going to whisper as I covered my ears from how loud he was talking.

“How could you sleep with another man?”

You’re getting upset at me because I slept with another man when you were sleeping with your secretary these past few months.

“Yes, I know, but did you have to sleep with him in my office?”

“I’m sorry, isn’t that what you did with Emily?”

“ I found the bra in one of your drawers, Gabriel.”

“Don’t lie to me, either, saying that it wasn’t hers”.

“Who was the man that you were with?” Gabriel asked, looking at me. “His name is Leon, and he owns a bar called Desmond’s”.

“You slept with the owner of the bar? “You don’t even know this gentleman, and you slept with him”.

“Well, you didn’t know Emily, but you were sleeping with her for the past few months.” I bit back.

Well, at least I was using protection, unlike you. Alright, I admit we weren’t being careful the whole time. Maddie, come on, how can I make this up to you? Can’t we go to counseling? Hold on a second, she says, as I watch her swallow a couple of aspirin and wash it down with water. Then she gave her response, you want to go to marriage counseling. Ha, ha, you would like to talk to someone. Oh boy, she says, I can’t believe my ears, and here I thought you were feeling guilty about sleeping with Emily.

I am feeling guilty, I said to her. That is why I think we should go and talk to someone uh before we even consider doing something else. Here is my answer to that, Why would we go talk to someone when you had already had the affair? I believe it is a little too late for that.

“Please, Madison, I am begging you, can we at least try counseling?” “I will think about it.” That is all I’m asking for. After all, this is a first for both of us. “What is that supposed to mean?” It means now that you have gotten even with me, we can move on from this. Do you want us to move on? Yes, I do, there is just one problem with that. What is the concern now, Madison? Oh my goodness, did you forget already?

“What?”

“The problem is that you got somebody else pregnant, Gabriel.” That is the issue.

“I don’t even know if it is mine.”

Well, she is claiming it is yours. She said that hasn’t slept with anybody else since you two were having the affair.

How do you know that Emily said this?

After I decided to go for a drive before my little one-night stand with the owner of the bar. We had run into each other. Nope, scratch that, I was sitting at the light thinking and the car behind me honked. She got into the other lane, rolled down her window, and flipped me off.

That is when I rolled my window down and yelled at her for flipping me off. We decided to pull into the nearest abandoned parking lot. Then we exchanged a few words.

She tried to put her hands on me, Gabriel. “You didn’t hurt her, did you?” That is what you’re worried about me hurting her.” “Wow, I can’t believe you.” I wouldn’t dare hurt a pregnant woman.

Besides, I told her if she wasn’t pregnant, I would kick her ass for putting her hands on me. “Never mind that, Madison, what about the suggestion of counseling that I mentioned?” Oh my goodness, can't this wait? Can you not see that I am hung over? Oh, I can see that alright, and that it is what you get for getting drunk. What was I supposed to do, you hurt me in the worst way possible, Gabriel.

Yeah, so I went out and had a few drinks, but I wasn't alone when I went to the bar. “Who were you with then?” If you must know, I was our friend Sally. That is just great, she'll have a few choice words for me. Oh no, she won't because she doesn't even want to talk to you. Of course, that means your best friend is going to want to talk to you about what you did.

I am distracting him by bringing our friends into it because I am not entirely sure that going to counseling will for us. As I am thinking this too. Yes, I know Jason wants to speak to me. He has been blowing up my cell phone. However, I can talk to him later to get the third degree from him. We need to finish this discussion about counseling.

You know what, I am going to our room to think, and you can sleep on the couch. Gabriel walks away, shaking his head.
