It was late that day and neither Shawn nor Sophia knew the dangers that awaited them in the dark.
They staggered and walked out of the beach looking all drunk and gullible for harm.
While they strode in the dark, to the road, locked in each other's arms, a fine scent of danger swirled the air but Shawn and Sophia were all drunk and laughed it away.
Soon, they heard gunshots. Joana, who had been following the drunk couples, halted to the red flag and bad signal.
Derrick and his men were out for war and it almost seemed like a World War.
Joana gazed at her cousin, Sophia, and a pang of terror overshadowed her.
"We had fun at the party today. Damn! I wish the party never got to end.,” Planting a peck on Shawn's soft chin, Sophia recounted the fun she had at her birthday party hosted by her boyfriend, Shawn to celebrate their 4th relationship anniversary...
No one could imagine that he would throw such a big birthday party considering his low income. He broke the bank to ensure the relationship was well celebrated. It has always been Sophia's dream to have an elaborate relationship anniversary party at the beach.
And just when she thought it was never gonna happen, boom! Shawn came through with the big surprise party that swept Sophia off her feet.
"You deserve the world.
What you saw at the beach was just the tip of the iceberg," Shawn bragged as he locked lips with Sophia on the road, disregarding passers-by who were running in search of safety from the peril that was looming afar off.
"You two, we are in danger. Aren't you both worried?” Joana said, freaking out.
The streets were growing cold and she could see people running for their safety but her cousin and boyfriend were just having fun and not bothered about the gunshots.
"Who cares? Anyways, I wouldn't blame you. It's because you're single and go into a stupor..” Sophia teased Joana and resumed her scintillating romance with Shawn.
"That wasn't supposed to be funny, was it? We are stranded on this lonely road and all you can think about is romance. This is so ridiculous. You do realize how risky this is? We might get robbed or attacked by thugs. Doesn't that bother you? Well, if you're not bothered, I am.” Joanna let out her frustration at their nonchalance. They don't seem bothered by the dark clouds and danger hovering around them.
“Take a chill pill. No one's gonna get hurt while I'm here. Trust me, I'll be the knight in your shining armour.”
Shawn bragged and taunted Joanna for being scared.
Fortunately for them, a cab headlight flickered from a distance. At the sight of the cab, Joana almost urinated on her body thinking about her last day on earth and the menace that would surge them.
"Hey, are you stranded? Need some ride?” The cab halted.
Joana froze.
Being the only one who is sane among the three of them made her freak out.
“ Who are you and what do you want from us?” Joana asked apprehensively, turning and twisting her neck.
“ Hey, come on hop in, I mean no harm,” The cab driver said in exhalation, trying to subdue Joana’s fear.
"Told you. Here comes a cab to get us home," defending their act, Shawn said in a cranky voice. Still intoxicated by the strong liquor he struggled to get in the cab with Sophia, leaving Joanna alone to drop their luggage inside the car booth.
“7th Avenue, y close, please. Don't worry about the fee. Just get us out of here. I don't like the aura hovering around this place,” Joanna ordered the cab man, slipping a $300 into his palm.
Halfway through the trip, the cab stopped moving to compound their woes.
“What just happened?
I hope it is not what I'm thinking?”
Joanna rolled her eyes.
"I'm afraid there's a problem. I need to fix my cab,” the cab man admitted, descending from the vehicle to resolve the issue.
Joanna was pissed off and scared at the same time. She turned to her right and shook her head at her cousin and Shawn who were snoring like dragons. They were oblivious to what was happening.
It's 20 minutes past 10 pm and the car still hasn't been fixed yet. Anxiety was freaking the hell out of Joanna as she alighted from the cab and edged closer to the cab driver, scanning the environment carefully to be certain it was danger free.
“Have you fixed it already? What's taking you so long? I hate the way I'm feeling right now. Can't you call someone to come get us out of here?”
"I'm afraid, not. I'm so sorry it turned out this way. Now, we can only hope for a miracle.” The cab driver uttered in self-pity, trying to get Joanna to pardon his silly act, but she ignored him, constantly checking on Shawn and Sophia who were still rooted in deep slumber unbothered.
A few minutes later, they heard another loud gunshot in the air. Hurriedly, they both went into hiding.
“Oh, no. Seems we are in danger. Please do something! I don't wanna get hurt. Call the cops or something. I'm so scared. I don't wanna die,” Joanna shivered like a hen drenched by the rain as held on to the cab man for safety.
" my cousin and her man.
We can't just expose them to so much danger, they might get hurt. We need to go help them.” pointing at the cab, she quickly realized Sophia and Shawn were still asleep.
“You've got nothing to worry about. They'd be just fine. We need to protect ourselves first. We come for them later,” The cab driver said.
Joanna was obstinate. She rushed back to the cab to alert Sophia and Shawn of the impending danger.
"Wake up you two"
"Go away. Are we home yet?” Sophia yawned, polluting the air with her stinking breath.
"Home? You gotta be kidding.
Come out of the cab, you two. Seems there's an ongoing robbery. Can't you hear the gunshots?” Joanna prompted, dragging both of them out of the cab.
"What are you doing? Let me go. I need to sleep. I'm so damn tired.
You're hallucinating. There's no gunshot anywhere. Are you deaf or something?” Sophia protested and remained glued to the chair. Suddenly, another gunshot was fired in the air. With immediate effect, Sophia and Shawn dashed out of the cab and went into hiding with Joanna.
"How long has this been happening and why are we stuck on the road,” gasping for breath, Shawn. freaked out like a kid. He forgot where he bragged that he was gonna be their hero.
"Does that even matter right now? We should be thinking of getting out of here alive. For your question, the cab had a breakdown the cab driver couldn't detect.” Joanna responded, glancing sideways, ensuring her safety.
After a while, total stillness enclosed the atmosphere, raising their hopes that the peace was restored.
"I think they're gone now. Let's go back inside the cab. We can't be hiding like fugitives,” the cab driver hinted, limping to his car while observing the situation closely.
Just then many cars, suspected to be a convoy, drove past them and made a reverse, stopping in front of them. Winding up the windshield, a big tall light skinned extremely handsome guy in his late 30s spoke out, “Hey, I can see your cab is faulty. Come hop in for a ride to your destination. It's not safe out here. I'm sure you heard the gunshots,”
While Joanna and the others were contemplating if he was some sort of kidnapper, Sophia was already seated at the back, next to the stranger, abandoning their luggage inside the booth. “You heard him. It's late. Let's hop in already,” she yelled at them while sitting comfortably as though she owned the vehicle.
Staring at each other in the eyes, Sophia and Shawn hurriedly grabbed the luggage along and hopped in.
The stranger smiled at them. They didn't know him either but were running away from danger.
Thanks for the ride home. You rescued us from an impending danger,” Joanna appreciated the stranger after they arrived home. "Stop keeping late nights. It's extremely dangerous out there. By the way, I'm Matthew Callaghan. CEO of the Matty Cash empire, a multi-billion dollar company, and one of the largest In the city. We are leading the technology Brand. What's your name?” He introduces himself and offers a handshake. “I'm Joanna, and these are my, oops.” Joana paused, seeing Sophia and Shawn strolling inside the house, ignoring Matthew. "I apologize for that. That's my cousin, Sophia, and her boyfriend Shawn. Blame it on liquor. We just celebrated their 4th relationship anniversary. But trust me, your kindness isn't taken for granted.” Joanna apologized on their behalf. "It's fine. Just stay out of trouble,” Matthew smiled, got back inside the car, and drove off. "Phew! We are finally back home. What a day!” Joana sighed, tossing herself on the couch. What a horrible experi
You haven't told us why you got dismissed from the office.” Sophia fumed at Shawn, who was seated on the couch, placing both hands on the head."I had an outburst with a colleague at work this morning and we both got dismissed. I pleaded for a second chance, but my boss won't even listen to me,” he explained, expressing his disappointment. What a difficult time for both couples, who solely depended on their job for survival. Now their only stream of income is gone. Shawn was the reason they found themselves in the awkward situation. He categorically ordered Sophia to quit her job while he took full responsibility for her needs. She could have sworn there was never gonna be a day like this where financial setbacks would be rubbing minds with them. Over the years, she ignored numerous men for Shawn whom he loved wholeheartedly. And with a situation like this, she might just have been put to a love test."What do we do now? You can secure another job, right? Should my cousin and I go job
"Hey Hun. Guess what just happened right now? I just got a job as an office assistant to a CEO.” Sophia rushed home immediately and disclosed the news to Shawn. "You didn't tell me you were going shopping. What's with the groceries you are holding?” he wasn't fascinated a bit by her new job. He shunned and focused all attention on the groceries packs in her possession. "I just told you I secured a job, and you're not even bothered. I expected more,” she reminded him, dropping the packs on the couch. "A while ago, you stepped out to cool off, and now you're here with packs of groceries? Come on, it's not adding up. What's this job all about and who connected you?” "So, there's this old friend of mine I met at the lounge. Remember I said I was going to cool off, right? I told her everything that's been happening lately, and she offered to help. Right in my presence, she called her Dad and told him everything. Without hesitation, he gave me the company's address and asked me to show
Another day had dawned. The rays of early sunlight lit up the streets and brought a pearly glow into the sky as the chorus of melodic birdsong drifted in. It's the most important day of Sophia's life. She wasn't a coffee drinker, but she lost sleep last night thinking about her new job and the opportunities that awaited her. Even though her boyfriend wasn't still in full support, Sophia was still determined and focused. It was just 6:30 am and Sophia was already up, and anticipating her new job. She can't wait to meet new people and make friends, too. She opened her wardrobe to select the best dress to complement her position as an office assistant but was lost and developed a headache. She found none of the outfits worthy enough. Finally, she caught a glimpse of one, a beautiful red gown. “This fits perfectly,” She smiled in excrement and stood in front of the mirror to admire her beauty. After applying a slight make-up, Sophia dashed to the living in her high heels. She was comp
"Sophie, what do you think you're doing? How dare you walk out on me? Have you suddenly lost respect for me? I dare you to come back home now. We still have unfinished business. Can't you see it's late?" Shawn glanced through the window and called Sophia repeatedly, trying to make her return but she ignored him and kept walking faster as though Shawn never existed."Did you see what your cousin did? Sophia just walked out on me. She's not even responding to me. When did all of this start? She wasn't like this before.Did you two plan this? If I find out about your involvement in this, I'll forever be angry at you. You should be a mediator and not a destroyer.``He turned to Joanna to vent his frustration. He has every reason to believe that Joanna might have been involved in this. Perhaps, Joana herself orchestrated it all."Shawn? Please stop this madness. It's making me so uncomfortable. I don't deserve any of this treatment from you.How would you think so low of me? You know I don
Shawn gritted his teeth remembering the adorable moments he shared with Sophia in the past. The only question running through his mind was. "Could my father be right after all? He warned me about her but I refused to listen," His father's warnings are starting to play back in his head. This was the moment he wished he had listened to his father. Perhaps, he won't have found himself in an awkward situation like this. When his father warned him about Sophia, Shawn thought his father never wanted his happiness. His eyes are now widened to the bitter truth. It got to a point where Shawn's father wanted to introduce Shawn to Anita Baker, his friend's daughter who was wealthy too but according to Shawn, he wanted someone from a decent background and he felt Sophia fit in that category perfectly. With Anita depending on her father's wealth, it'll be extremely difficult to control her, so Shawn thought. Sophia may not be rich as Anita but that's Shawn's ideal woman. He wants someone he c
Feeling sorry for letting out Sophia’s little secrets, Joana slumped back on the couch. She peeked at Shawn, he was in all his pain. “ Shawn, you should go and sleep now. It's been a whole lot of trouble for you today. You need to be sane to proffer a better solution to the problem at hand” Joanna pleads. She yawns from exhaustion and rests her back on the couch for comfort. “ You're suddenly feeling guilty for Sophia, aren't you? “ Shawn blamed Joana. He feels betrayed by her too. She knew all along that her cousin was a cheat but hid it from him despite being close to her. “ Oh, c’ mon, Shawn, I'm tired of this argument already. You and Sophia are two adults. You can sort yourselves out. I'm out of here” Joana stomps to her room. The argument was killing her down and she could not continue sitting with Shawn. “I see! You must be in support of Sophia’s actions” Shawn blamed Joana before she finally disappeared from him without saying a word. Infuriated, Shawn punched the couch
Living in a gigantic mansion and being constantly showered with gifts made Sophia lose her mind completely. She had barely spent days with Mathew and her whole life transformed into something else. “ Baby, I want us to start making arrangements on how to get married. You know I need to secure the deal I told you about right?” Matthew said. He kissed Sophia’s lips the more as he lay on the couch in his exquisite living room.Sophia giggled and moaned a bit as his hands fondled other parts of her body but she suddenly halted him.“ What's that look on your face, my love?” Matthew was stunned at Sophia’s sudden change. “ Can you give me more time to process this marriage? You know I have to break up with my boyfriend and convince my Dad about this whole plan. Besides, why does this have to be a contract marriage?” Sophia’s face turned pale. Matthew needs to explain why he wanted her as a contract wife and not his real wife. Matthew chuckled at Sophia’s response and this poked out the
