Serena’s POV
Alexander, my ex-boyfriend. Alex breathes heavily, he looks exhausted and drained of energy. “Alex? What the hell are you doing here?”, shocked to see him, he looks like he has been rough-handled. What has he done this time around? It's always something with Alex. The last time it was the cops, the other time it was the gang members, now what?
“Please, you gotta help me out guys”, a strange ooze filled the room.
“Eww, what's that smell? Is this you Alex?” I asked to be sure. It smelt like sewers.
“You got to help me out, guys”, breathing heavily like a dog, sweating profusely with a bad stench that worsened it all. Alex looked like he had not showered for days, what had happened to him? The only question I had for him.
“Hmm… no. I warned you not to return your broken ass to this place last time you came here. Seems you want to be embarrassed. I wonder who you're running from this time around. I'll be happy to let them know your stupid ass is here”, she was about to leave when Alex blocked her. “Excuse me?”
“No, wait, please, you don't understand”, what had he got himself mixed up in this time around?
“Hmm… hmm… we don't need you here. Get your sorry ass out of our house, unless you want me to call the cops on your sorry ass”, Benita lets him have it without allowing me to say a single word.
“What's wrong Alex?”I had to sympathize with him.
“No. Don't entertain this fool, Se. He ain't worth it. He ain't worth any of your time. Get the fuck out, Alex, or I start calling the cops” She brings out her phone.
“Fine. I'll leave. Just let me crash in here for the night, please”
“No!”Benita is really not having it. “Leave now, don't make me call the cops. I swear, don't make me do it, Alex”
“Relax Benita, it's fine, let me just crash here for the night”, I can't just let Alex leave. Besides, it's very late. I know it's not my problem and all, but come on, I should help out at least.
“You out of your mind girl. No. I'm not letting this crazy man in my house”
“It's only going to be for the night, right”, I asked Alex.
“Yes, it is, I swear, I'll be outta here by morning, I swear. First thing in the morning”, he makes his plea.
“Beni?”, I knew she was the only one who could let him stay, I really had no say in the matter as it was.
“Hmm. Don't make me do it girl”, Benita is fighting the urge not to have him in the house.
“Beni?”, she flings her phone on the couch.
“Fuck!.”, in her frustration, she loses her cool for a moment.
“Thank you, Beni”, I know it's not easy for Benita, after what Alex did. We only took him those two times out of pity. But this? A third? Jesus Christ Alex!
“Thank you, Benita”,
“Don't fucking talk to me, or I'll kill you before whoever out there those”, she leaves the parlor and into the room. It's sad and weird and disturbing to see Alexander.
Alex and I were meant to marry. I know I'm only 18, but we got engaged last year and he promised to marry me on my 18th birthday. And on that day, at the altar, I was left alone, with no sight of Alex. He abandoned me for another woman. Alex is 25. And to watch him destroy his life pains me to see. It's just sad. “You can sleep on the couch”, was the only solution I could offer to him at the moment.
“Thank you, Se”, the only other person that calls me Se.
“Save it”, I went into the room to talk with Benita, leaving Alex in the living room.
“I don't like this, Se”
“I don't too”
“So why is he here? Why did you let me in?”
“I don't know”, I sat on the bed with my hands above my head.
“Why do you do this to yourself? That's the man that left you at the altar“. I don't know what I feel towards Alex anymore. I don't hate him for what he did, but I can't help but pity him. He has been through enough.
“Let him just stay for the night, he's here now”, Benita disregarded what I was saying, completely ignoring what I had to say. She walks out of the room and into the living room. I had to follow her so she wouldn't make a fuss.
“Better behave, both of you”, she warns us. “I'll be back”, Benita walks out the door saying nothing more, I expected more than that but it's late and I just want to go to bed.
I stare at Alex pitifully rolling my eyes at him before going back to the room.
Later that night, I went to get a glass of water from the sink. I noticed Alex wasn't on the couch.
“Alex?”, I called out his name. “Alex?”, I hear a faint response from the roof deck. It's Alex, smoking a cigarette.
“Here”, I went up to stay with him.
“It's the middle of the night, what are you doing up here?”, he waves a cigarette stick around as his answer. I sat next to him. “You good?”
“Have I been?”, with a forced smile, he takes another drag.
“It's been bad, huh?”
“I don't want to talk about it, Se”
“So why are you here? What do you want here?”
“I just….”, his words betray him. He finds it hard to express himself.
“You can't keep coming back here. I want you to know this is your last”
“It's fine”
“Why are you here Alex? What are you doing here, with me?”
“Nothing”, I became frustrated with him, this time I was not having it anymore.
“Nothing? Don't tell me anything. Alex, what are you doing with your life? All this is just sad”
“Uhm…”, sniffs, “thank you, Se. I'll leave tomorrow”, he stands to leave. I stood up with him in my frustration, beating him repeatedly, almost tearing up.
“You don't get to do this to yourself, why do you also do this? You just abandon everything and everyone you love. Now you abandon yourself. Fix yourself up, man!”
“Enough!”, he yells at me, disturbing the neighbor's dog that kept barking. He looks at me for a while. He reaches for a kiss, locking his lips with mine. I pushed him and slapped his face.
“Don't you ever!”, but in my warning, he dared kiss me again, and this time I couldn't fight back. I've missed him so much that I just had to comfort his pain.
We kissed each other back to the living room, taking off our clothes till we were both naked. I hated myself for it, but I couldn't help myself. Alex lifts me, pinning me against the wall.
The action begins…
Serena’s POVJerry and I were having a conversation about my hair in the break room. He complains that it's not appropriate for work and that he hoped that it would be gone after a week of working in VestTech. It's been a month and counting and I still had my short blue-tinted hair. Jerry said it made me look like a pixie. Vincent had joined us and I couldn't be more happy to have all this sorted out. “Vincent, Jerry here thinks I should get rid of my hair, that it is not ethical for work”“Why do you think they are not ethical?”Finally, Jerry is getting what he deserves, he has been on this matter all day and I was getting tired and bored of it. “I'm speaking to you, Serena”, what, me?I looked at him with a confused expression, “Sir, it was only mentioned to me now, it seemed like it was never a problem, to begin with”, I made my case as it was.“Well, now it's one”, he grabs an apple from the fruit tray and takes a bite out of it. “He is your boss if he says the hair gotta go, the
Serena’s POV Walking into the office the next morning took me by surprise at what Jerry had done. My office desk wasn’t where it was meant to be, he had moved it to only God knows where. “Oh, there you are'' Jerry approaches me from the corner. “Where’s my desk?” I was a little confused and couldn't realize that this was Jerry’s friendly way of making me change my blue hair. It’s not ethical for the workplace. “You’ll be happy to find that your desk has been moved to a more comfortable location for you to work at your maximum productivity”, he said with a dirty smirk on his face, “Hope you find it truly comfortable”, he patted my shoulders before leaving. What have you done, you dwarf? “What did you do to my desk? You’re compromising my assistance to Mr. Vincent and I'm sure he wouldn't like to see I'm not where I'm supposed to be” Got you, you little piece of… “And I'll be glad to inform you that Mr Boyega won't be coming in today” “What, is he sick?” “That's for me to worry abou

Serena’s POV:My night class surprisingly ensued in time tonight. Mr Quinn had some urgency of some sort at home. “Are you gonna dye your hair back to black”, Benita sits on a rotating bar stool, as I lay hopelessly on the flour drained of energy. Worse of all our air-conditioning is damaged and the handyman won't be here for the next two days. We're both on our inner, the heatwave is milking us both.“It's not a big deal either way, I think it's about time I did something different with my hair”“You’re mixed right”, I raised my head to give Benita a disgusted expression. We’ve been friends for over five years Benita, and you’re asking me this? Nah, she’s pulling my legs.“Really girl”?“Oh!”, coming to her senses, “my bad”“Hmm hmm”, sigh“Haven’t heard from Vincent. Heard is out sick”“No calls from him either”?, I nodded my head.“Don’t even know how to feel about that”“I’m sure he’s alive, and probably still breathing”“He Better be”, chuckles, exhales…“Alexander? I hope that b
Mr Vincent POV:Seeing Serena lying on the bed unconscious made me sick in my Tommy, this was all my fault and I knew it. If I wasn't there, the accident wouldn't have happened. Now she's in the hospital all because of me.“This is all my fault, Benita. If I wasn't in you guys' way if I hadn't jammed into both of you, Serena would be fine”“Don't sound like that Mr. V, she'll be fine, I promise”Serena’s Day had started like every other day, with the familiar hustle and bustle of city life. She works hard, I'll give her that. Little did she know that by nightfall she would find herself lying on a hospital bed. Makes you realize that life is short.“I'm going to get something to eat, you want anything”? Benita said looking exhausted. “I'm good, thanks”, as Benita walked out of the room, I began to have a taste of coffee, so I called her back. “Uhm.. Benita…”“Yea”?“Coffee would be fine”“Okay, I'll be right back”, I thought of the suit I had on all day. I didn't even realize I had th
Mr Vincent POV:As I waited for the hospital staff to finalize the arrangements for Serena's room, my mind raced with a mixture of relief and anticipation. I had been determined to ensure Serena received the best possible care, but the prospect of making a substantial donation to the hospital weighed heavily on his mind.As I sat in the waiting area, my thoughts turned to Serena—her strength, her resilience, and the unwavering dedication she brought to her work. She deserved nothing but the best, and I knew I was determined to see to it that she received it, regardless of the cost. After what felt like an eternity, the hospital staff returned with a smile, confirming that Serena would be moved to the hospital's finest accommodations. Finally, I breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that his efforts had paid off."Thank you," I said sincerely to the staff member, his gratitude evident in his voice. "Please let Serena know that I'll be checking in on her regularly."The staff member nodde
Serena’s POV “Jesus!” I woke up to see I had been transferred into a much more spacious room. I couldn't hold my feelings. I wanted to burst out with joy. No wonder I had a much more peaceful night than the last. I mean, this is amazing. Why did the hospital change my room? Bewildered “Wow, this is nice”, I said softly. “Feeling better”? Mr Vincent said, walking in with a bouquet. Did he do this? I'm sure he did. If he did, then he must have done it as a show-off. “This was all you”? I needed to be sure. “Uhm… the hospital thought it'd be best for you. You know, your condition and all”, uh-hmm, that's the best thing you could come up with? “Mr. Vincent, the room… It's amazing. Thank you” “Oh, no. You should be thanking the hospital and not me” “I know it's you, Mr Vincent. Thank you”, he chuckles with a bold smile. “You're welcome”, he replied, gladly. Just then, Benita entered the room with two cups of coffee in her hands. She sips hers. “Where's mine”? she nearly choked on
Serena’s POV:Finally, I got to leave the hospital today. The nurses have been helping me pack up my things from the room, into a bag. It's been three days and I'm starting to get cranky in here. I sat on the hospital bed, flipping through a magazine. Mr Vincent had to go to work but chose to come see me first. He is standing nearby, checking his phone.Vincent smiles at me “I'm so glad you're feeling better. How about we make this weekend memorable? You deserve some luxury after being cooped up here.”I smiled “That sounds nice, but I don't want to be a burden”, my smile was weak, being cooped up in here for that long made me feel more stressed out. What I should be doing is resting, and not making memorable nights with Mr Vincent.Mr Vincent places his hands on my shoulder. “Nonsense. It's settled then. You're coming with me.”“I'll be fine, sir. Thank you though, for the thought and consideration. Nice gesture coming from you”, I teased him so he wouldn't feel bad about me not taki
