The Meeting

"Your brother is safe, Rose," Ma mére said, her voice firm and reassuring

"I can assure you of that. I have my eyes on him, no one would dare lay a finger on him, and he is being well cared for. You don't need to worry about him."

Rose sat there, still feeling a bit uncertain. "How can you be so sure?" she asked. "What if they find a way to get to him?"

Ma mére took Rose's hand in hers. "I am sure because I am Headmaid and nothing is done without my consent " she said

"Rose, I understand your desire to see your brother," Ma mére said, "but I cannot allow that to happen, at least not now. I know that you are worried about him, but I can assure you that he is safe and well-cared for. I am responsible for ensuring his safety, and I cannot compromise that by letting you see him. I hope you can understand that my child"

Rose let out a sigh. She knew that Ma mére was right, but it was still difficult to accept

"I understand," she said, even though it was hard to say the words.
