It was Sunday and it was a lazy day for both of Mila and Emma. Mila finished all of her college assignments on Friday and Emma finished everything she was supposed to do on her weekdays since she had nothing else to do.
"Julie is coming over," Mila informed Emma as she drank her coffee.
"And Ariana too," Emma told Mila, checking her I*******m out of pure boredom.
"Great." Mila smiled and sat on the couch beside her.
Mila was texting Julie a lot and she had a lot of classes with her. Julie was a nice girl and she was a lot like Mila, so she was comfortable with her and she did not feel pressured with the friendship she developed with her.
Emma was also building a growing friendship with Ariana and she liked the friendship they were having. She loved how Ariana was making her experience new things. Mila was a little uncertain about Emma's friendship with Ariana and was concerned about how Ariana was pulling Emma into a whole new life, yet she kept her doubts to herself, not wanting to judge a book by its cover.
"Is Ariana a freshman?" Mila wondered. She was curious about the new girl her best friend was talking to a lot.
"No, she is a sophomore," Emma said.
"And Cole?" Mila smirked.
"I don't even have his number, Mila!" Emma whined. She had told Mila about Colton, how attractive he was, how he taught her beer pong, how he spent the whole night with her and almost everything they had done together."So you are not going to see him again?" Mila asked her.
"I don't know Mil, he doesn't have my number and I don't have his."
"He could easily get your number from Ariana," Mila pointed out with a slight shrug.
Two hours later, Julie and Ariana came. The girls ordered pizza and decided to have a Harry Potter marathon.
"There is this party next Saturday, are you girls coming?" Ariana asked, before taking a sip of her soda.
"You don't have a shift, right?" Emma asked Mila as she took a slice of pizza. Although she did enjoy the previous party she had been to, she wanted Mila to be with her. She wasn’t used to going out without having Mila by her side.
"No, I will go if you're going." Mila did not want to leave Emma on her own. She did not like Ariana; something about her sent Mila off.
"I'll go too," Julie agreed.
"Great! Emma, you have to try this new drug! It's amazing! It will make you feel like you're on the ninth cloud!" Ariana exclaimed but Mila frowned. She was never a fan of drugs. She was aware that Emma was smart too. She wouldn’t involve herself in stupid things like that, unless she was heavily influenced.
"Woah, wait here, Emma you're not going to try drugs, are you?" Mila sounded really concerned. She did not want her friend to fall into a hole she could not get out of.
"Let her try new things, protective mama." Ariana rolled her eyes.
"I... I don't really know, I've never tried drugs before." Emma was hesitant. She wanted to please both of her friends.
"Emma, you need to get out of your shell!" Ariana encouraged Emma.
"I'm sure she can be on the ninth cloud by doing a lot of other things instead of doing drugs," Julie commented, agreeing with Mila.
"I don't know about you two, but your definition of fun is way different than mine." Ariana was talking in a sarcastic tone and neither Mila nor Julie liked her mindset and how she talked. "What about you, Emmy?""I don't know... I don't think it's a good idea, I don't want to get addicted," Emma said in a nervous voice.
"Oh come on! Don't let whatever they say get in your head," Ariana told Emma, acting like neither Julie nor Mila were sitting in the same room as her. Mila looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Excuse me?" Mila said in annoyance.
"You're excused," Ariana said with a fake annoying smile.
"You're unbelievable!" Mila scoffed.
"Girls, stop!" Emma said, getting tired of their little fight.
"Whatever," Mila muttered and went to her room. Julie quickly followed her while Emma stayed in her position; she seemed lost.
"Is she usually a bitch?" Ariana asked Emma.
"Don't call her that!" Emma defended her friend.
Both Mila and Julie walked out of the room and they both headed to the front door.
"Wait Mil, where are you going?" Emma asked Mila as she quickly followed her.
"Going for a walk," Mila replied.
"You're not mad at me, right?" Emma frowned and Mila quickly shook her head.
"Stop doing that! You're allowing her to take advantage of you!" Ariana was glaring at Mila.
"I'm so done with someone like you!" Mila hissed and walked out.
"Why do you hate her that much?" Emma exclaimed, eyeing Ariana in disbelief.
"She is using you! She is controlling you, she is the definition of a toxic friend!"
"She is not! She loves me and only wants the best for me!" Emma defended her friend again.
"You're blinded by your love for her! Emmy...she is using you." Ariana tried to convince Emma.
"No, how can you think like that?" Emma questioned.
"She lives with you for free! She's a control freak and she feeds on your weakness," Ariana told Emma.
"No! She pays half of everything! Stop doing that! Look, can you please leave? I need to be alone," Emma said, breathing out heavily as she rubbed her forehead.
"You really don't know how toxic she is," Ariana said before leaving.
Once she left, Emma picked her phone quickly to call Mila. She felt bad for not following her, but she could not leave Ariana alone. She did not expect that her childhood best friend and her first friend in college would hate each other like that.
"Mil! Where are you? Are you okay?" Emma said quickly, she was slightly panicking.
"Em, calm down. I'm okay, I'm just five minutes away from home," Mila assured Emma, knowing how anxious her best friend could get.
"Are you coming back soon? I'm alone, she left," Emma told Mila."I'm coming now. Please, calm down, there is no reason to panic." Mila did her best to comfort Emma. She hung up and quickly returned home, knowing how Emma’s anxiety could kick in at any moment. Julie decided to leave, allowing Emma and Mila to talk freely about what happened.
Mila walked inside the apartment and found Emma sitting on the couch. She looked really nervous and scared, which was a thing Mila could not understand the reason behind. Mila went to sit beside her best friend. Emma was zoning out that she did not notice Mila being beside her.
"Hey," Mila said, smiling a little at her worried best friend.
"You're back!" Emma said happily and quickly hugged her.
"Woah... I didn't take long." Mila laughed a little as she hugged her back.
"I thought you'd be mad at me. I don't like it when you're mad at me," Emma mumbled.
"Why would I even be mad at you? Emma, you didn't do anything. It was all Ariana," Mila told her.
"And she is my friend.""Not a reason to be mad at you. It was all Ariana. Em... I really don't like her, she is bad news." Mila sighed, looking at Emma.
"She is not bad news, she is just... different." Emma was not even sure about what she was saying.
"She is different! Not a good difference though. She is into drugs and probably other harmful stuff, Emma. How can you trust someone like that?" Mila was doing whatever it took to knock some sense into Emma.
"Don't worry about me, I know what I'm doing," Emma assured her. "Let's just continue the marathon."
Mila was starting to get worried about her best friend, she knew that Ariana was pulling Emma into a dark alley and she did not know what to do. She wanted to stop Emma from befriending Ariana, but she knew that she would appear controlling and she did not like that. She did not want to prove to Ariana that she was right because she was not right, Mila was never controlling, she was just looking out for her best friend. She knew how innocent Emma was, she knew how people could take advantage of her.
"I honestly don't like her at all," Julie spoke as she sat beside Mila. The professor had not come yet to the lecture, so the girls used the opportunity to chitchat."Same, I don't know what Emma sees in her, this troubles me." Mila sighed, opening her notebook and writing the date."Are you still going to the party?" Julie asked her."Only to keep my eyes on Emma.""I don't know if I should come or not." Julie thought out loud."Come, I don't want to be alone at that party, I know Emma would be busy with her new friends.""I will think about it," Julie told Mila, earning a nod from her."I want you to meet Leila and Hannah. We share a flat together," Julie said with a smile on her face."Sounds good to me. I have a shift today from 4 to 10, if they are free after we finish our lectures today then we can meet," Mila suggested."Sounds like a plan," Julie agreed. After two lectures, Julie and Mila went to meet the
"Are you sure you want to come? You know I will be fine on my own," Emma told Mila, giving her a skeptical look. "Did Ariana tell you not to bring me? Too bad for her if she did because I'm going," Mila said the first part teasingly; however, she was serious about the second part. She did not want to leave Emma alone at that party; she had a bad feeling about it."She did not say anything else, we haven't really talked about you." Emma shrugged as she applied some lipstick. Emma was lying, Ariana would always make fun of Mila."Julie is coming, so I will most probably be with her all the time, and I'm sure you'll be with Cole, Ariana, and your new friends," Mila said, applying more mascara."That's not true." Emma frowned as her stomach twisted in guilt. "We will spend time together.""And even if we don't, it's okay. You're supposed to have new friends, I'm just worried about the kind of people you hang out with," Mila spoke. Ever since they starte
The next morning, Emma woke up around noon with a killer headache. She winced as she got out of bed. She walked slowly to the bathroom and took a hot shower, hoping it would ease her headache and relax her exhausted body.Once she was done she dried herself and put on clean clothes then went back to her room. Emma could not remember anything at all from the night before and that was annoying her. The more she pushed herself to remember, the more the pounding in her head intensified. When she was done brushing her hair and applying deodorant and body lotion she walked out of her room."Mil," she called out as she walked to the kitchen. Emma was a little surprised when she found Julie in front of her instead of Mila. She did not recall Julie staying the night with them, but she also failed to recall any other event."Good morning Julie, where is Mila?" she asked her, opening the fridge."Morning, I bet you have a strong headache, here." Julie handed her Ibupr
"Is this Emma? We've heard a lot about you," Leila hollered, gaining the attention of everyone around them. Leila, Julie, and Hannah were at the restaurant, sitting in a booth and they were soon joined by Emma and Mila."My death wish would probably be to see you quiet for an hour." Julie rolled her eyes at Leila."Hey," Emma said, smiling at the three girls in front of her then sat down and so did Mila."You already know Julie, I'm Leila and this is Hannah," Leila introduced herself and Hannah."You really look like princess Merida," Emma told Leila."I know, right? I've been told that a lot! Even Mila told me that the first time she saw me.""You two made up?" Julie whispered to Mila while Emma was engaging with the other two girls."We haven't talked about it yet... I honestly don't want to talk about it. I think I might ignore the whole thing," Mila told Julie quietly.Mila took a glance at Emma and saw her talking to Hannah
More than three weeks passed and Emma and Mila were slowly drifting apart. Mila noticed how their friendship was falling apart and she did not know if she should do anything or not. She tried to fix what had been unintentionally broken between her and her best friend— who did not realize how everything was going downhill between them —but all her tries went in vain.Emma was too caught up in partying, drinking, and even smoking to pay attention to anything else. She did not pay attention to her studies the way she was supposed to. She was falling into a deep hole and refused help from anyone. Mila tried to pull her away from that dark life she was getting herself into, but she always ended up pushing Mila away. Each girl decided to focus on her new life and everything they used to do together was kind of forgotten. How ironic? Emma was scared that Mila might forget about her and get busy with her new life and new friends, yet she was the one who forgot her
"I'm so excited and happy and nervous and overwhelmed! Oh god! I can't believe I agreed!" Mila exclaimed as she paced back and forth. She was at Leila, Hannah and Julie's place. The three girls, who were sitting right in front of her on the couch, looked at each other for a second before bursting out in laughter."Don't laugh at me," she whined as she threw herself on the chair placed beside the couch."Sorry, I just...I have never imagined seeing you like that," Julie laughed, making Mila glare at her."What do I even wear!?" Mila wondered."Just ask him," Hannah shrugged, looking at Mila."Okay," Mila nodded and texted Blake, who replied after five minutes."Something comfortable, yet nice." Mila read the message then looked at the girls."That's not something hard to find in any girl's wardrobe," Leila said and the others agreed with her."When you start getting ready tomorrow send us pictures of your outfits and we will help
"That bitch accused you of stealing!?" Hannah hissed when Mila told them everything that happened to her an hour ago."I... I can't believe she did that to me," Mila whimpered in Julie's arms. She was still in shock, she felt betrayed and hurt. Not once did she imagine something like that to take place between her and her longtime best friend."Look, you don't need somebody like her in your life. How about this? If you're comfortable enough with us then move in with us. Each room is supposed to take two people and Julie and I share a room while Hannah is alone," Leila told her."Yes, move in with us. It will be fun," Julie agreed, and so did Hannah. Their offer was not out of pity, they were comfortable around Mila. There was nothing that hindered the offer. It all depended on Mila’s agreement.Mila thought about it for a while. She has not known those girls for long, but she felt quite comfortable with them and they have made her feel welcomed more
Emma was alone in her living room, doing some assignments. It was the weekend and Cole went out of town with his friends, leaving her all alone since Ariana was also away for the weekend. She left the pen and rested her back against the back of the couch. She looked around the apartment and suddenly started to feel that the place was too big for her. Emma kicked Mila out three days ago and ever since that she had been thinking about her decision. Was it the right one? Did Mila really steal the earrings? But they have been friends for a long time and Mila had never taken anything from her; in fact, Mila was the one who would find Emma's missing things. What if Mila was right and that was all a setup? Was she willing to forgive her? But then, she remembered what Mila told her "when they ruin you, I won't be there to pick up your broken pieces." Those words kept ringing in her ears and she could not get them out of her head. Was Mila serious about that? She would not be there t
