"Are you sure you want to come? You know I will be fine on my own," Emma told Mila, giving her a skeptical look.
"Did Ariana tell you not to bring me? Too bad for her if she did because I'm going," Mila said the first part teasingly; however, she was serious about the second part. She did not want to leave Emma alone at that party; she had a bad feeling about it."She did not say anything else, we haven't really talked about you." Emma shrugged as she applied some lipstick. Emma was lying, Ariana would always make fun of Mila.
"Julie is coming, so I will most probably be with her all the time, and I'm sure you'll be with Cole, Ariana, and your new friends," Mila said, applying more mascara.
"That's not true." Emma frowned as her stomach twisted in guilt. "We will spend time together."
"And even if we don't, it's okay. You're supposed to have new friends, I'm just worried about the kind of people you hang out with," Mila spoke. Ever since they started college - which was two weeks ago – Mila could clearly notice how Emma was not spending time with her as she was always or at least most of the time with her new friends. Mila tried to deny all the thoughts that have been running through her mind, but Emma's actions made it hard for her to keep denying all that she has witnessed. Although this annoyed Mila, she did not want to talk about it at that time with Emma. She preferred to wait for at least two more weeks before deciding whether or not to discuss the matter with Emma.
It was weird that Mila could not find some time to tell Emma about Blake and neither did Emma tell her anything new about Cole. Mila did not even find any time to show Emma the new things she wrote; Emma used to be so eager about reading whatever she wrote, but now Mila felt that Emma would not care. Something was hindering their friendship and Mila hated the thought of being distanced from her best friend.
"Are you done? I'm ready," Emma said, changing the subject.
"Yeah, let's go." Mila nodded, taking one last look at her outfit. She was wearing a black dress that fell just a little bit above her knees. It was a one-shoulder dress that fitted Mila's body perfectly and it even looked better with the blue wedges she wore.
Emma was wearing a yellow crop top with ripped jeans and chunky brown heels that matched her outfit.
They decided on taking Mila's car since Mila was sure that Emma would end up getting drunk, not because she liked drinking, but because she was certain that her new group would convince her that drinking would be the perfect idea to have more fun. Mila was hoping that getting drunk would be the worst thing Emma might do. She was easily influenced by her new toxic friends and Mila wanted to be there for her to pull her away from that dangerous life."Are we going to pick Julie up?" Emma asked.
"Yeah, she doesn't have a car," Mila replied as they both got in the car.
Once they picked Julie, Mila drove to the party. It was at the same frat house where the last party was held. Mila did not know the way, so Emma instructed her.
The three of them walked inside the house and as expected, when Ariana spotted Emma she pulled her away from Mila and Julie. Emma mouthed 'sorry' to Mila who gave her a small smile. Mila expected that. When Emma was not looking, Ariana smirked in a cunning way at Mila and quickly flipped her off.
"Did you just see that?!" Julie shouted in anger when she saw what Ariana had done.
"She is an utter bitch." Mila was trying to have some control over herself.
"Whatever, let's just dance a little," Julie said, taking Mila to the dance floor.
The two girls danced for twenty minutes and they were having so much fun. After a while, Mila took Julie away from the dance floor, so they could have some fresh air since the dance floor was getting crowded.
"Where's Emma?" Mila asked, looking around as they walked to the backyard.
"Uhhh... Mila, I think you won't like this," Julie uttered, pointing at a spot in the backyard where Emma was sitting with her friends, smoking- most likely weed- and drinking. Mila saw a guy sitting next to Emma, who was probably Cole since he matched the description of the guy Emma told her about. Cole was getting too touchy with Emma who was not aware of what was happening due to how drunk and seemingly high she was. Mila was sure that those fucktards of friends convinced her to try whatever they were smoking.
Mila’s eyes widened upon seeing his hand slipping into the back of Emma’s pants and that was enough to make her storm towards them.
"What on earth is he doing?" Julie hissed as she followed Mila, not being able to part her eyes from the scene before her.
"It doesn't matter because it's going to stop right now!" Mila scowled. "Emma! I think we need to leave," Mila said, cutting out the make-out session."Oh, the mama came," Ariana snickered.
"Shut up bitch!" Mila snapped at her, taking Ariana by surprise.
"What did you just call me!?" Ariana screeched.
"The perfect description that matches the sad excuse for a human being I'm talking to," Mila sassed, causing a few people who were near them to laugh.
"Mila, have some fun! Live a little." Emma whined, tipping her head back a little.
"Trust me, I was having so much fun without having any shit in my system," Mila said in annoyance.
"Because having a shitty personality is enough?" Ariana smirked.
"I won't mind slapping the hell out of you right now, so back off for your own sake!" Mila yelled at her and stepped forward towards Ariana, but Julie held her back.
"She’s not worth it, let's just take Emma and go," Julie told Mila.
Mila pulled Emma up who kept struggling to get out of her grip.
"Let go!" Emma screamed, shocking Mila with her sudden outburst.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Mila hissed, trying not to attract any unwanted attention.
"You're acting like a prude! They were right." Emma snapped at Mila.
"She's drunk and high, don't take whatever she is saying seriously," Julie said, attempting to fix whatever Emma was about to ruin.
"Let's just go, Emma," Mila mumbled, trying to hide how hurt she was.
"I'm not going anywhere with you!"
"Yes, you are and that's enough!" Mila yelled at her, making Emma flinch a little as she hated being yelled at, but Mila had no other option. Mila knew quite well that Emma had a problem with yelling since her parents would yell at her occasionally, though Mila did not know what else to do.
"Hey you, feisty girl, leave the girl alone." Cole stepped into the little fight.
"So you could get in her pants?" Mila raised her eyebrow at him. She saw how he was touching Emma, taking advantage of her state. Mila did not wait for him to say anything else and pulled Emma out of the whole place even though she was protesting against what Mila was doing and she even threw a couple of insults at Mila.
"Mil, she is not aware of what she is saying." Julie tried to comfort Mila as they got in the car.
"It's fine," Mila whispered, doing her best to block the tears that threatened to fall. Mila did not care about the insults, but it broke her that they were coming from her best friend.
"Would you like to stay the night?" Mila asked Julie and she agreed. Julie knew that tomorrow was not going to be easy for either Mila or Emma.
The next morning, Emma woke up around noon with a killer headache. She winced as she got out of bed. She walked slowly to the bathroom and took a hot shower, hoping it would ease her headache and relax her exhausted body.Once she was done she dried herself and put on clean clothes then went back to her room. Emma could not remember anything at all from the night before and that was annoying her. The more she pushed herself to remember, the more the pounding in her head intensified. When she was done brushing her hair and applying deodorant and body lotion she walked out of her room."Mil," she called out as she walked to the kitchen. Emma was a little surprised when she found Julie in front of her instead of Mila. She did not recall Julie staying the night with them, but she also failed to recall any other event."Good morning Julie, where is Mila?" she asked her, opening the fridge."Morning, I bet you have a strong headache, here." Julie handed her Ibupr
"Is this Emma? We've heard a lot about you," Leila hollered, gaining the attention of everyone around them. Leila, Julie, and Hannah were at the restaurant, sitting in a booth and they were soon joined by Emma and Mila."My death wish would probably be to see you quiet for an hour." Julie rolled her eyes at Leila."Hey," Emma said, smiling at the three girls in front of her then sat down and so did Mila."You already know Julie, I'm Leila and this is Hannah," Leila introduced herself and Hannah."You really look like princess Merida," Emma told Leila."I know, right? I've been told that a lot! Even Mila told me that the first time she saw me.""You two made up?" Julie whispered to Mila while Emma was engaging with the other two girls."We haven't talked about it yet... I honestly don't want to talk about it. I think I might ignore the whole thing," Mila told Julie quietly.Mila took a glance at Emma and saw her talking to Hannah
More than three weeks passed and Emma and Mila were slowly drifting apart. Mila noticed how their friendship was falling apart and she did not know if she should do anything or not. She tried to fix what had been unintentionally broken between her and her best friend— who did not realize how everything was going downhill between them —but all her tries went in vain.Emma was too caught up in partying, drinking, and even smoking to pay attention to anything else. She did not pay attention to her studies the way she was supposed to. She was falling into a deep hole and refused help from anyone. Mila tried to pull her away from that dark life she was getting herself into, but she always ended up pushing Mila away. Each girl decided to focus on her new life and everything they used to do together was kind of forgotten. How ironic? Emma was scared that Mila might forget about her and get busy with her new life and new friends, yet she was the one who forgot her
"I'm so excited and happy and nervous and overwhelmed! Oh god! I can't believe I agreed!" Mila exclaimed as she paced back and forth. She was at Leila, Hannah and Julie's place. The three girls, who were sitting right in front of her on the couch, looked at each other for a second before bursting out in laughter."Don't laugh at me," she whined as she threw herself on the chair placed beside the couch."Sorry, I just...I have never imagined seeing you like that," Julie laughed, making Mila glare at her."What do I even wear!?" Mila wondered."Just ask him," Hannah shrugged, looking at Mila."Okay," Mila nodded and texted Blake, who replied after five minutes."Something comfortable, yet nice." Mila read the message then looked at the girls."That's not something hard to find in any girl's wardrobe," Leila said and the others agreed with her."When you start getting ready tomorrow send us pictures of your outfits and we will help
"That bitch accused you of stealing!?" Hannah hissed when Mila told them everything that happened to her an hour ago."I... I can't believe she did that to me," Mila whimpered in Julie's arms. She was still in shock, she felt betrayed and hurt. Not once did she imagine something like that to take place between her and her longtime best friend."Look, you don't need somebody like her in your life. How about this? If you're comfortable enough with us then move in with us. Each room is supposed to take two people and Julie and I share a room while Hannah is alone," Leila told her."Yes, move in with us. It will be fun," Julie agreed, and so did Hannah. Their offer was not out of pity, they were comfortable around Mila. There was nothing that hindered the offer. It all depended on Mila’s agreement.Mila thought about it for a while. She has not known those girls for long, but she felt quite comfortable with them and they have made her feel welcomed more
Emma was alone in her living room, doing some assignments. It was the weekend and Cole went out of town with his friends, leaving her all alone since Ariana was also away for the weekend. She left the pen and rested her back against the back of the couch. She looked around the apartment and suddenly started to feel that the place was too big for her. Emma kicked Mila out three days ago and ever since that she had been thinking about her decision. Was it the right one? Did Mila really steal the earrings? But they have been friends for a long time and Mila had never taken anything from her; in fact, Mila was the one who would find Emma's missing things. What if Mila was right and that was all a setup? Was she willing to forgive her? But then, she remembered what Mila told her "when they ruin you, I won't be there to pick up your broken pieces." Those words kept ringing in her ears and she could not get them out of her head. Was Mila serious about that? She would not be there t
"I swear you look good! Stop hyperventilating!" Julie exclaimed as she watched Mila adjust her clothes for the thousandth time during the past thirty minutes. Mila was wearing a camel brown pencil skirt along with an off-white blouse. Her look was simple yet elegant at the same time."I'm so nervous! This is basically a dream coming true!" Mila squealed, nervousness obvious in her tone. She looked at her reflection in the mirror, making sure that her makeup was on point. She wanted everything to be perfect, she did not want to mess anything up.Blake was going to pick her up since he wanted to be there for her and the truth is, she wanted him to be with her too. She showed him some of the things she wrote and he fell in love with her style and every word she had written. She printed some articles she wrote and even the proses she used to write as well as the imaginary scenes she usually wrote.Blake called her and told her that he was waiting for her outside the
It's been five days since Cole hit Emma. On Sunday, he tried contacting her, but she had her phone off, she did not leave her apartment and she did not answer him or even Ariana. On Monday, she had to go to college and she saw him there, he gave her chocolates and flowers, he swore that he would never lay a finger on her again and what happened was nothing but a drunken mistake and she believed him although she was reluctant about forgiving him.On Sunday, she was close to calling Mila, she almost hit the call button, but she remembered what Mila said and that was enough to make her drop her phone on the couch. She wanted to drive as fast as she could to Mila's new place and beg her to stay the night with her; she was in great need of the comfort of the girl who understood her the most, but she knew that Mila was serious about not stepping a foot again in her apartment, plus she was certain that Mila would not welcome her in her new place. She realized that she did not
