Chapter 5 - Lost, Ashamed and Broken

"Sophia! I'm back home, love." Marvin's voice echoed in the empty mansion as his eyes searched for his porcelain doll but she refused to enter the radar of his view.

A little panic coursed through his veins as he entered the room with only one name on his lips.

"Sophia! Sophia! Where are you!?"

However, nothing.

His screams got no response from his porcelain doll as a frown etched on his forehead.

Where is she?

The thought lingered in his head as he turned to head in the direction of their room, hoping he'd find Sophia sleeping there on their bed peacefully. But, even before he could have taken a step further. His movements were stopped by the voice of the head maid.

"Sir, Madame is not in the mansion." The head maid's confused Marvin as he turned around to stare at the head maid in absolute confusion.

"What do you mean she's not home? She literally has no friends in the entire town. And, her memory..." Marvin's voice trailed off as his hands started trembling.

Her memories! Did she get back her memories?

"Sir, I don't know about that. But, the driver has dropped her at Melvin Musgrave. She has gone there to meet someone. That's all I know." The head maid said as she bowed her head in front of Marvin.

Marvin nodded, dismissing her as he fished out his phone, searching through his contacts for the name, 'SOPH'.

As soon as he found the name, he clicked on dial as the phone started to ring as the sweet melody of a song filled his ears.

The song ended. The call ended. The vibrations that he felt in his palm while holding the ringing phone ended.

But, no one picked it up.

No one.

Panic started to course through Marvin. Thoughts of his little doll regaining her memories haunted him as he slumped on the sofa, calling Sophia again and again till his fingers went numb.

Was she gone forever? Who will keep him entertained now? Who will he show off now to make others jealous? Who will smile and put his thoughts above her own?

Who will he play on his fingers like a puppet?

His back rested against the couch as his eyes remained trained on the door, waiting for his doll to waltz back into his life.

And, no one knew how. But, the night passed. As the moon set behind the clouds and the sun rose in the sky brightening it up.

At the hotel, the sun rays shone bright through the curtains as they waltzed into the room falling directly on Sophia's eyes. As they fluttered open, landing on a stranger sleeping peacefully like an angel next to her.

As her hazed vision cleared slowly, Sophia's eyes widened in shock, realizing the man next to her wasn't her husband, Marvin. She jerked up and sat on the bed, looking around the room as memories of last night start hitting the back of her head.

The hotel. Entering the wrong room. Being drugged. Almost getting raped by two men. Being saved. And...

Sleeping with a random stranger.

Her hands trembled as she got up to her feet, staring at the man who gave her the night of her life and promised to keep her forever like some sort of plague.

She quickly walked to her clothes, picking them up as she dressed herself. Fixed her hair and wiped off her smudged lipstick on a napkin. Her eyes wandered around the room as they landed on a pen tucked in his shirt pocket which was lying on the floor.

Sophia rushed as she took the pen, careful not to wake the man up but not so slow that she'd be caught by him either. As she picked up a clean napkin, she scribbled something on the piece of paper, placing it on the table before picking up her purse from the floor and rushing out the door, closing the door softly behind her with only one thought in her mind.

What would she say to Marvin?

As she walked out the hotel, her mind was completely back as nothing seemed to enter her hazy mind and teary eyes. She did not know which direction she was walking in. All she knew was that that she couldn't go home. Neither could she go back to the stranger who whispered sweet nothings in her ear last night.

He would be disgusted at the sight of her. After all, it was her who practically begged him to fuck her even after she had a husband waiting for her at home.

And, what about her husband who loved her so well. Even after she couldn't remember anything?

He would be shattered. He would be broken.

Broken knowing the shameless acts his wife committed last night.

Where was she supposed to go now? On whose shoulders should she cry now? Where should she vent her her frustration?

How should she explain to Marvin what has happened?

Would Marvin ever be able to look at her in the same way again?

Why does this happen to her? Why? Why? Why?

As Sophia blamed herself. Cursed herself in the back of her mind. Her feet landed on a dry twig whose crack filled her ears. But, she was so lost that she couldn't understand if that was supposed to be the sound of twig breaking or her heart shattering.

Sophia soon found herself outside a park, sitting alone on a bench outside as she watched the world move on around her. She couldn't stop the tears from flowing down her face as she sat there, lost and alone.

How was she supposed to face her husband now?

Cars drove past. People walked past. Animals walked past.

But, Sophia was frozen. Frozen in a place until a car honked, dragging her out of her daydream. Her eyes trailed to the car door as it opened and they landed on the ice-cold face of a person whose face always reflected warmth.

The person whose criminal she was.

"You... You... You are here. Let me explain. I..." Tears streamed down her eyes as she gazed at the floor, ashamed at the deeds she has committed.

"Get in the car, Sophia. We'll talk when we reach ho... No. My place." The sharp words pierced straight through Sophia's heart as she nodded trying to wipe away her tears which never seemed to stop flowing like some perennial river.

"Yes, Marvin."
