Chapter 9 Energy Conversion

The young man, Ryan, had lived in this world for sixteen years and had never stepped out of Lanceton. He had been struggling for livelihood all year round. After all, Lanceton was also considered a prosperous place in the south of Franka Empire. It was the fief of the Rose Duke, and it was also a transportation hub from the south to the north. It was a commercial city. Therefore, even if Ryan did not care much about the world, he had more or less received some information. He was not a teenager who grew up in the countryside knowing nothing about this world.

This world was different from Earth.

This was a world where the spirit could interfere with matter.

On Earth, mysticism was just a delusion. Even if he cultivated a special technique, it was only able to increase the potential of his body. He could maintain a clear mind and remain calm like a mountain. However, when he erupted, there was still no way to surpass the limits of the human body. In a more trendy way, it was impossible to unlock the genetic constraint of his body.

In the end, his ability was still in the limit of a normal person.

This world was different. The gods and demons were not illusory legends. They were not the imagination of poeple, but real existence. Humans also had extraordinary beings, and there were stories about them everywhere.

Night watcher.

Ordinary people called those extraordinary beings night watchers.

They followed the will of the Heavenly Father and guarded the night for the human race so that they would not be harmed by the monsters in the darkness.

Of course, Ryan had never seen them in the past decade. He had only heard many legends related to the night watchers and many horrible ghost stories. He was skeptical about these.

After all, hearing is false and seeing is believing.

But now, he believed them without a doubt.

First of all, he inexplicably had appeared in this world. Then, he had entered an illusion that was no different from reality last night. Just now, he had felt a terrifying aura. He had also known about the mysterious Book of Gold in his sea of consciousness, that crazy desire for some mysterious energy... All of these could not be explained by science on Earth.

The worlds were different, so the rules were different!

In his opinion, the Book of Gold should not be something that originally existed on Earth. Once it met someone, it would become mysterious, not under the jurisdiction of the laws on Earth, and be rejected by them.

Because of this, he had come to this world, right?

While his mind was filled with wild thoughts, Ryan called a public carriage by the side of the road and got into it.

In his sea of consciousness, the golden flame calmed down. The title page of the Book of Gold was still half-open. There was a wisp of black gas rushing left and right, but it was entangled by the golden light, broken down and devoured bit by bit...

"Pa!"

Not long after, the black gas disappeared without a trace.

Ryan's mind shook. His body, which was leaning against the carriage, suddenly trembled uncontrollably. It lasted for a few breaths before it calmed down.

He let out a long breath, feeling as if he were full.

This was just a spiritual feeling. In fact, he actually felt hungry right now.

The feeling of the body and spirit was the exact opposite.

That black gas should be related to the sudden appearance of the illusion. Because of this, the Book of Gold was stimulated and started to operate. He broke through the illusion and swallowed its aura, converting it into some kind of energy.

However, driving Book of Gold needed to consume energy.

At that time, he could only burn his body. Only then did he feel hungry.

Ryan got off the carriage halfway.

His whole body went limp, just like a guy who had not eaten for several days, sweating profusely and panicking.

Although the Book of Gold reacted spontaneously, he also needed energy to activate it. At that time, he could only activate it by burning his body. That was why he felt like he hadn't eaten for several days. If he hadn't gotten on the carriage, he might have fainted while walking on the road.

The carriage stopped at the north district of the port.

The port of Lanceton was very large and was divided into the north and south districts.

Mount Louga was in the south district. Ryan's workplace, Williams Business Association was also in the southern district. Compared to the southern district, the northern district was much more prosperous.

This place could not compare to the north district. There were not so many private ports and no yachts that wandered on the sea like birds. However, there were not many fishing boats anchored here like in the south, which filled with the smell of fish and was extremely dirty and messy.

Here, there were many large ships that could sail between the Noya Continent and the New Continent. Occasionally, one could even see huge merchant ships sailing to the east. Those merchant ships were like small cities, which were incomparably huge.

Ryan got off White Elephant Street in the north district. There were many restaurants here. It was not the kind of high-class restaurant that required dozens of Louis to eat a meal, where it took more than two hours with a special dining etiquette. Of course, these restaurants were also different from those small restaurants in the south district of the port or the Mount Louga community. It was convenient and cheap to eat in such small restaurants. A plate of fried rice with seafood only needed ten finneies, and a simple fish sandwich was cheaper. It only needed eight finneies.

To eat in a restaurant here alone, it would take at least fifty finneies.

Ryan entered a self-service restaurant. Each person needed to spend ninety-nine finneies. The dishes could be ordered by himself, and he could enjoy as he wished. However, all the food on the plate had to be eaten up. He could not waste it.

Although the price was a bit expensive, it was suitable for him now.

After paying at the cashier at the entrance, Ryan took the plates and cutlery from the waiter who was wearing a white shirt and black vest. Ryan walked to the food supply area. There were several long tables with many food boxes. They were mainly seafood, but there were also chicken, duck, beef, mutton, and other meat, as well as a large number of vegetable salad. There was a large amount of wine in the drinks area on the side, which was also free to drink.

It was two o'clock in the afternoon. There were not many diners in the restaurant, and there were only a few people in the spacious restaurant.

The cafeteria was open at eleven o'clock in the morning and closed at three o'clock in the afternoon. Then, after two or three hours of rest, it reopened at six o'clock in the afternoon. In other words, Ryan had an hour to eat.

At this time, the food was no longer sumptuous. Some of the popular food had been took away, leaving only empty food boxes.

Ryan did not care about that.

It didn't matter what the taste was, the most important thing was quantity.

He quickly filled the plate with meat and fish and shrimp. Then, he sat down in the corner with the plate.

Ryan glanced at the sunlight that penetrated through the window. In his sight, dust flew like little bugs in the light. He took a deep breath, raised his knife and fork, and placed them on the plate.

He did not eat fast, even a bit elegant, as if he was eating in a high-class restaurant. However, the food on the plate quickly disappeared, and soon, the plate was empty.

People were busy with their own things, the waiters were taking a nap, and diners were whispering to each other. No one noticed him.

In only fifteen minutes, Ryan went to the food supply area three times. The value of the food he had eaten was about the same as the cost of the meal. Of course, he was not done yet. Although he was not hungry, his stomach was still a little empty.

The food had been completely digested.

There was heat wandering in his body, just like a little mouse.
