The metal door creaked, and I inched backward, pressing my back against the rough wall. I watched someone emerge, and it was only when the cloak was taken off her head that I was able to breathe.

Clandestine’s face was hideous because of the burn, but it didn’t scare me at all. In fact, she was the only face in this coven that I was so happy to see.

“Destiny…”

“Shhh,” she said before she closed the metal door behind her.

“Did they punish you about the fire?” I had to ask.

“No. I cried and told them how you forced me to change clothes with you and that we were both going inside the fire, but I didn’t realize you were gone until I got burned.”

I was at a loss for words.

“If they thought we were friends, Agatha would not let me be here.” She came closer with a wooden tray in her hand before saying the next words loudly. “I brought you something to eat.”

She placed it down and mouthed the words, “Don’t eat it.”

“I don’t think I can eat.”

“But at least drink this one.” S

Well said. Stories need to have the ups and downs. If it weren’t for the personal growth of the characters, then what would be the point in the story to begin with
