0001.

Amby pulled over at the driveway when she got home, grabbing the test results alongside her expensive Gucci handbag, she rushed inside the mansion. Her cheeks were rosy with excitement and a smile adorned her mildly painted lips.

Humming softly as she climbed the staircase, the doctor's words echoed in her mind. "I assure you this time, you are going to conceive.”

The news had Amby filled with a mix of emotions - excitement, nervousness, and a deep sense of relief. She knew this news would change everything.

She couldn't stop herself from smiling as she thought about how Jake would react to the good news. His face would light up, and she could already imagine the adorable smile that would spread across his features, underlining the sharpness of his cheekbones and the warmth in his eyes. The sight of his smile would melt her heart and make her feel like the luckiest woman in the world. It was hard to contain her excitement, she felt like mind-linking him to share the good news but she knew it would be worth the wait to see his reaction in person.

She had been married to Jake, the alpha of the sunshine pack for three years without being able to bear an heir for him. During those years, she had endured the shame and humiliation of being labeled "barren" by the pack. She had spent many nights crying herself to sleep, feeling like a failure. But at this moment, the happiness she was feeling was so immense that it washed away all those painful memories.

“Where is the Alpha?” She asked one of the maids who took her bag.

“I think he is having a meeting with the elders in this study.” the maid said. On hearing the maid’s response, Amby's heart skipped a beat and started racing wildly. She knew what a meeting with the elders meant. They had come once again to discuss the issue of their childlessness and the need for the pack to have an heir.

She imagined them pressuring her husband, reminding him of his duty to produce an heir but It was all over now. With a newfound determination, Amby decided to share the news with the pack elders herself. She knew they would not believe her without evidence, so she took the test results she had put in her bag and headed to Jake’s study.

As she walked through the hallway, she held her head high and carried herself with a confidence she had never felt before. She was going to prove to them that she was capable of bearing a child based on the test results, this time.

On getting to the study’s door, she cross-checked the test result to be certain before intruding.

She took a deep breath and grabbed the door handle, pushing it to go in but the words she heard one of the elders say made her uneasy and she stayed back to listen to their conversation before further deciding if she was going to intrude or not.

“You have to divorce Amby, Alpha, and choose another Luna. Stop the excuses, it's becoming embarrassing,” Cypril, the oldest elder said which the rest of the elders supported.

“No, I have vowed to have only one Luna all my life, which is her. None of you have any right to ask me to divorce her,” Jake argued, his temper flaring up.

“No Alpha, we have every right to ask you to divorce her now since we have realized we made a mistake when we chose her to be your Luna,” Elder Matt chipped in.

“I don't care, elder Matt, the council of elders might have chosen her but I have grown to love her. She might be a mistake to you guys but she had never been to me. I bless the moon goddess every day for making her my Luna. My years with her had been worth it and I can never be able to let her go,” Jake upheld, which put a smile on Amby’s face and reassured her of how much Jake loved and was willing to protect her.

She grabbed the door handle, now fueled to go in to show them the test results. She had had enough of the names they were labeling her and how much they were putting pressure on Jake. She wanted them to hide their faces in shame when she showed them the results.

“This is terrible Alpha, love cannot solve the issue of your childlessness, she is barren and cannot conceive. How long will you keep it away from her? How long will you keep asking the doctor to lie to keep giving her false test results?” Elder Cyril asked and Amby froze as she was about to take a step.

“What!” she looked at the test results as she exclaimed. “What was the elder saying?”

“Had the doctor been lying to her, giving her false hopes and results?” Amby was restless and in doubt.

“No, it cannot be true, I will be able to conceive, the doctor hadn't been lying to me and the test results aren’t fake,” she assured herself and looked at Jake, eager for him to rebuke the elder and tell them that he was lying.

“It is none of your business what I say to the doctor. I have every right to tell him what to do and I want all of you to stay out of it,” Jake replied in rage, standing up.

"Don't be selfish, Jake," Cypril snapped. "Tell the poor woman the truth about her condition, so something will be done about you having an heir. If you don't, I'll make sure the next meeting of the Elders is about removing you from the throne."

"No!" Amby's thoughts screamed inside her head. She couldn't believe this was happening. Why would Jake have lied to her like this? How could he have asked the doctor to lie to her? She sank to the floor, squeezing the test results in her hands.

"How could this be?" she whispered to herself, her breath catching in her throat. "Why would he do this to me?"

Amby felt like her whole world was crashing down around her. She didn't know what to believe or who to trust. The one person she thought she could count on had betrayed her in the worst possible way.

This had been the reason she hadn't been able to conceive, no matter how hard she had tried. It had all been a lie - her hopes and dreams had been built on a foundation of deception.

"And Jake had known all along," she thought, her heart breaking into a million pieces.
