CHAPTER 10 No wife, No Inheritance

It was the first day of the workweek after accidentally getting married on a wild weekend in Vegas.

Tyler finally got back to his office. For a workaholic person like him, leaving it for over a week was a mortal sin. Thus, it caused a lot of mishaps and work revisions.

Therefore his face has already been buried on his laptop screen in the early morning.

His attention was diverted when Hawkins knocked on his glass door, “Mr. Schneider,” his voice was calm as usual.

He lifted his head and recognized his presence by raising an eyebrow.

Hawkins came in and handed over a flash drive on his table, “Sir, here it is.”

Tyler, being a sarcastic boss, looked at the small thing and then at him, “So? Is it porn? A movie? Is it even worth a billion dollar contract for you to disturb me?”

But Hawkins, being used to his demeanor, was ready to give a witty response instead of being offended, “If you’ll ask me, sir, it would cost half the Chairman's fortune.”

With this, Tyler easily got what he wanted to say, “It came out that quick?”

“We expedited them with tons of money, sir,” Hawkins smiled.

“And I must say, Miss Myers, I mean, Mrs. Schneider, was the opposite of the word boring,” he even added.

Tyler glared at him and watched the footage saved in the drive. The awkwardness and disbelief were obvious on his face. The twitching of his lips, furrowing brows, and massaging of his nose bridge proved how humiliated and embarrassed he was with his actions. He couldn’t bear watching himself doing such ridiculous things with a strange woman who was now married to him.

After finishing the footage, he rested his back on his executive chair, “Make sure this will never come out ever,” commanded Hawkins.

“Erased and destroyed, sir. That’s the only copy in your hand,” his secretary said.

“Great, anything else, cause I still have a lot of things to do here,” he uttered in annoyance.

“Well, here’s another thing, sir,” and then Hawkins laid down an employee's profile on the table.

“What do you want me to do with that? I am the CEO not the HR head for fuck’s sake,” mocked Tyler. But his mockery turned sour when Hawkins, yet again answered him accordingly.

“That employee costs half of the Chairman’s fortune, sir,” he said while his eyes were smiling.

“You gotta be kidding me, now! What else are you doing here? Tell them to fire her right away!” Tyler’s initial reaction was to avoid any interaction with the woman he would soon divorce.

Not because he didn’t like her, but because he wanted to avoid a scandal that would hurt his company.

But Hawkins, aside from the secretarial course, probably took guidance counseling units, since he is one of the best advisers Tyler has in the company. And knowing that this coincidence could help his boss, he voiced out his thoughts.

  “Permission to advise, Mr. Schneider.”

  “Go ahead,” he granted him.

“The chairman called me and asked about the update of your wife-hunting, asking me to tell you he only has a few months to live,” Hawkins relayed the message while chuckling.

“Grandpa being the drama queen. Just let him be with his nonsensical requests,” Tyler revolted.

“But I believe, sir, Miss Chloe Myers working here, might be favorable to you.”

“How so? Explain it in one sentence, Hawkins. Don’t waste my time!”

“Miss Chloe Myers is here, and she’s already your wife. And your grandfather is asking you to find a wife asap. All the ingredients are here, you just need to do the cooking, sir.”

“Are you mad? I won’t stay married to her, I don’t even know her. And besides, with the personality she has, she won’t agree with it. You saw her screaming at me like crazy to fix the divorce, remember?” Tyler argued.

“Then, turn your marriage into a business contract. You can offer her something she wants, in return, you’ll have your inheritance. It’s a win-win situation.”

“You’re mad, just like the old man. Get out, I need to finish this,” commanded the boss. And as soon as Hawkins gets out, he received a message coming from the old man,

“Speaking of the devil…” he muttered, then the message displayed, “No wife, no inheritance.”

“Fuck! Hawkins!” then he shouted at the top of his lungs, a cruel boss has indeed come back.

“Find my wife, and bring her here in the office, just pray your strategy works!”

Chloe was standing in front of the office building, spreading her arms like an eagle, not even caring about what people may think of her.

She sniffed the air, “Oh, yes, this is the smell of victory.” Chloe has a very positive outlook on life, and at last, she finally got into a job she truly wanted and had been waiting for some years now.

She dressed up gorgeously and sexily, making her stand out in the crowd. With her looks, everyone almost turned their heads for a second look.

She now took his first step inside and went to the receptionist.

She was given instructions on where to go and she was very excited to meet her officemates, when all of a sudden, the elevator went straight to the highest floor, where the executive of the company usually stays.

“Huh? This isn’t the floor where I should be. The email said it is on the 33rd floor, not on the 53rd. What the–”

Little did she know that the golden-door elevator will go straight to the CEO’s office. And only the CEO, and her, could use it from now on.

As the elevator door opened, a familiar figure was waiting for her, smiling warmly, waiting for her arrival.

Her heart almost dropped upon seeing him, wishing this was all just a dream.

She tried to slap her cheeks slightly and blinked her eyes twice, but the figure didn’t disappear.

She was only convinced when the familiar man finally spoke to her, calling her, “Mrs. Schneider, welcome, welcome.”

She felt as if her head spun hearing the surname she wished she never had.

She didn’t answer and couldn’t even bring herself to move out of the elevator.

So the impatient one finally stood up from his chair and welcomed the gorgeous woman sarcastically,

“How long are you going to keep me waiting, wife?” his voice, as far as she remembered, was as rude and uncharismatic as ever.

Leaving her no choice, she finally dared to get out of the elevator and uttered the words, “Don’t tell me you are also working here, husband?”
