CHAPTER FOUR

At the hospital, Armin was wheeled into an empty room, and the door was shut.

From a distance, I spotted a well-known doctor. He was one of us yet influential in both the human world and the world of the most elite wolves.

“Doctor Finn,” I called and rushed towards him. He did not know me, but I'd seen him severally in magazines.

Although he was a doctor, he was also boiling. So his pictures showed up many times on the top handsome men list.

He was beautiful with his long black hair and dark skin tone. He had deep green eyes, soft pink lips, and a smile that could melt the world.

He was wearing a smirk that could turn any man gay.

“Excuse me, pretty lady.” He walked past me and headed to the door. “There's a job that needs to be done.”

Without waiting for a response, the door was slammed shut, and I had no choice but to wait.

I could trust the doctor, couldn't I? He was good-looking so that he could be very good at his job.

I exhaled. That was it.

Luke looked at me and said, “I think everything will be fine. Armin isn't weak.”

I nodded, “You are right. Armin is powerful and stubborn; he won't kick the bucket so easily.”

A look passed Luke's eyes, but before I could make sense of it. He said, “Why don't you use the hospital's bathroom and freshen up? I fear the poison is still on your skin. Even though you're immune, it can irritate your skin, and you might bump into someone, and if the poison somehow manages to spread on them, it'd become an issue.”

That made sense.

“But I don't have any clothes to change into.”

“That is not an issue; I'll go get neat clothes for you. You can go to the bathroom and freshen up right now; I'll ask a nurse to send you the clothes.”

I nodded. I couldn't keep wearing only his shirt anyways. It stopped right below my hip. If I had to pick something from the ground, my ass would show, which would be so annoying.

I didn't want a random guy seeing my ass.

I followed Luke's recommendation and headed to the female bathroom.

I turned on the shower, and the feeling I'd been repressing exploded in my chest as the droplets of water hit my skin, realization sunk in.

Armin could die.

He generally had a weak body due to his past incidents. Only his reputation had been sustaining him so far, but now he got poisoned and probably inhaled the zombie's dangerous gas.

Fuck!

Even though I killed the zombie, I only endangered his life and worsened the situation.

My feet tapped against the cold tile on their own impatiently.

Armin.

Please don't leave me.

I sobbed as many scenarios of Armin dying filled my head, making my heartache.

I turned off the shower. This couldn't do; I needed to see him. To see how he was doing.

I couldn't feel him. I couldn't feel his connection in the mind link. I couldn't touch him— It felt like when he blocked me out before.

Was it driving me crazy? Was he gone?

Was my love dead?

Knock knock knock_

I rushed to the door without care that I was bare. As soon as I opened the door, I was met with a white lady with blue eyes and blonde hair.

Goosebumps appeared on my skin because her features were precisely like the housekeeper lady I killed early; it was scary how alike they looked.

“I-i,” I stuttered, unable to say any words.

“A man called Luke asked me to get you some clothes and towels here.” They placed the clothes in my hands and, without another word, left while slamming the door shut.

I sighed. How could anyone look so familiar to someone else? I had to find a way to check if they were related.

Even if they weren't, I was curious and wanted to know.

For now, though, ensuring Armin's wellbeing was a priority.

I dried myself off and slipped on the jeans and soft yellow cardigan.

I dried my hair with the towels and walked straight to Armin's room. When I opened the door, I saw that it was empty.

“Jas!”

I turned around only to see Luke walking toward me. I closed the door and approached him.

“Luke,”

He had no emotion on his face, so I couldn't tell what he was thinking.

“How is he?”

A laugh etched on Luke's face, and he ruffled my already messy hair.

“Armin's been moved to another room—”

“—Why?”

“Relax, I was just about to tell you.”

“Tell me!” I was impatient now.

“Armin is fine. He got his system flushed. The reason he fainted was that his body was too weak. Now he's taking a rest in the other room.”

I was relieved but wondered, “Why can't I feel him?”

“His wolf is also recuperating.”

I nodded, then they were both in a deep sleep.

“When will he wake?”

“Probably in a few hours. He'll have to stay here for 24 hours until he makes a full recovery.”

I huffed.

“Then he made me worry a lot for nothing.”

Luke chuckled, “You're something else.”

“By the way, the nurse you asked to give me fresh clothes and towels looks so familiar to the blonde housekeeper.”

Luke nodded, “That's right. I was shocked as well, more than you.”

I could hear Luke's heart rate going up than usual.

“She's my mate.”

I didn't know how to react.

Suppose she was Luke's mate then. I felt guilty. What if she was the sister of the blonde I beheaded?

How could I face Luke again?

“Are they related?” I murmured.

“Who? The blonde housekeeper and the nurse? No! They have different family backgrounds and family names. You don't have to feel guilty about anything. If I were at the scene, I probably would have beheaded the blonde housekeeper myself. Also, although the nurse is my mate, I don't have any plans of developing a relationship with her. Right now, Armin's wellbeing is fundamental to me.”

“Fool!” I did not hesitate to say. “If you were asked to choose between Armin and your younger sister, who would you choose?”

“Armin. My sister is eighteen and a well-gifted police officer; she can take care of herself.” Luke said without hesitation.

I sighed. That wasn't a good example.

“If you were asked to choose between saving your child and Armin—”

“— I only make decisions based on my current plights. Never on figments of imagination, so Jasmine, don't bother, I've made my decision. I choose Armin.”

“I hope you won't regret it,” I said.

“That's for me to decide.”

I heard a sob. From across the room, the nurse was watching— She'd heard everything. Luke made sure she did.

He walked towards her with a solemn expression and said, “I, Luke Cameron Bawlford, reject you, Heathen Kings as my mate.”

Heathen bowed her head, her face sad.

“Don't take this personally,” Luke sighed, “You are beautiful, your boobs look nice, and you have a fat ass..” Heathen face flushed a bright pink.

Luke continued with a straight face, “I don't want a mate no matter what, so if you find someone who isn't an asshole like me, date him. You don't owe me anything.”

I laughed in my head. Luke was already attracted to her. It was only a matter of time until he came back to his senses.

For now, I would watch as the drama unfold.

While Luke talked to his mate, I went to get coffee. It wasn't sweet, but it made me feel better and less stressed out.

Coffee wasn't my go-to drink; it was usually tea, but I felt like tasting something completely different today, or I just wanted to pass the time.

Luke found me. Then he took a seat next to me in the hallway.

He sneakily grabbed my coffee and dunked it down his throat. I winced; that must've hurt. The coffee was still somewhat hot.

“I'm doing okay.” He said, his eyes falling into a daze.

I rolled my eyes at that. “Who are you trying to convince? Me or yourself?”

Luke sighed. “I don't know.”

“You need to know. I don't want Armin to worry about you when he wakes from his sleep. It'll hurt his health, so please, pull yourself together.”

Luke nodded, and I leaned against the chair, relaxing.

I could feel him again. It was subtle, but it was still there. I sighed. Luke had reassured me that it was necessary to kill the blonde housekeeper, so I no longer felt guilty about it.

After all, I was able to save Armin and Tentin.

My eyes opened wide in surprise.

I tugged on Luke's shoulder, “Tentin! Where's Tentin? He was also injured, but he's not here.”

Luke chuckled, “The idiot went to get himself checked out; he's next to Armin's room.”

“Where's Armin's room, and is Tentin okay?”

“Tentin is fine. The only issue is he banged his head on the wheel. Apart from that, nothing serious happened.”

I exhaled. Thank God.

“Armin's room is right down the corner. Next to it is Tentin's.”

“No, you have to go with me.” I pulled Luke up by his elbow, “I have an awful sense of direction.”

Luke shook his head and led me to the set of rooms by the corner.

“The last room is Armin's, the one next to it is Tentin's.”

“Thanks!”

I walked over to Tentin's room and pushed the door open. Tentin was on a bed, his neck bandaged, typing away madly on his phone.

“What's up?” I asked, closing the door as I entered the room.

Tentin lifted his head and looked at me in awe, “I thought you'd go to see Armin first.”

I ran my fingers through my messy hair, “He's sleeping; best not bother him. How do you feel?”

“Hurt.” Tentin said boredly, “My neck and back hurt. The blonde nurse says it's nothing serious, but I don't trust her; she looks exactly like..”

“RIGHT?” I cut in, walking towards Tentin with wide eyes. “She looks exactly like the blonde housekeeper I beheaded.”

“Yeah! I've never come across that kind of coincidence in my entire life; it's creepy.” Tentin clicked his tongue.

“Totally.” I agreed. I wanted to tell him the nurse was Luke's mate, but I didn't want to meddle in his business, so I changed the topic.

“Why are you doing on your phone anyways?”

I walked to his bed and sat next to him, only to see he had posted a picture of him on the hospital bed and was reading comments.

“Wow,” I said. I didn't think he was the kind to seek sympathy from people on social media.

“I have a lot of fans of I*******m.” He grinned.

“I can see that,” I replied unsurely. “Um.. how long have you been on I*******m?”

“Ever since I could afford a phone. My mom is viral on social media; ever since I was a baby, she has used me to gain more popularity. As soon as I got a phone and created a social media account, I was flooded with many followers.”

“Wow, aren't you bitter that your mom used you to gain followers on social media?”

“The fuck would I be. I'm making a lot of money for being good-looking, and many beautiful girls visit my cosmetic shop because of how gorgeous I am. A literal god.”

I nodded. That made a lot of sense. He was making a lot of money.

I had a lot of inheritance and land without working for it. Well, I did train a lot to get it, but how did it feel to make money from being popular on social media.

“Tentin, how do I make money on I*******m?” I was genuinely curious.

“First, get a phone.”

“I have an Android phone.”

Tentin shook his head, “That is unacceptable. Get an iPhone, then d******d the I*******m app.” I nodded vigorously.

“Then do you have some cash on you? I'll go get an iPhone right now.”

“I don't have cash, but I do have plans.” He looked at me, and a smirk passed his face.

“First, take a selfie with me.”

I nodded and fixed my hair before getting in the camera frame.

Tentin took several pictures of us from different angles and showed other facial expressions. It was pretty fun.

“Let's go,” Tentin said.

“Where?”

“Get an iPhone.” I squealed and jumped off the bed.

“So I'm going to be very popular?”

Tentin smiled, revealing his deep dimples. “You'll see.”

We walked out of the room and waved at Luke standing in the passageway, looking intimidating.

“Where are you guys going?” He asked roughly.

Before I could say anything, Tentin said, “To have lunch. I feel bad about leaving Jasmine to do all the dirty work, so I'm treating her.”

Luke hummed, looking at Tentin suspiciously. “Behave. Don't try anything stupid.”

Tentin scoffed, “What do you mean, Luke?”

Luke ran his hand through his black hair irritatedly. “You know what I'm talking about.”

“I don't know what you mean, Luke,” Tentin said and grabbed my wrist, “Let us go, sweetheart.”

As we were about to leave, Luke said, “Won't you visit Armin?”

“I'd rather not bother his sleep!” I yelled back and followed Tentin out of the hospital. Surprisingly, immediately after I stepped out, I felt pretty peaceful and fresh.

I looked at Tentin as we waited for our turn to cross the road. “Why did you lie to Luke?”

“I didn't.” Tentin stared back at me, “I want to treat you to lunch. After we get your iPhone, of course.”
