Dinam pov
Today like the previous days, I went out early in the morning and walked the streets of Dalbey in search of work. It has become my routine for almost a month. It's crazy how work has become impossible to find in this country. Yet I am not demanding. Even if it's cleaning the toilet, I'm willing to do it, as long as I have some money to pay for my mom's medical care.
Indeed, it has been a year since my mother was diagnosed with terminal blood cancer. She wasn't sickly by nature though. Just last year she fell seriously ill. I am the only child she has had. My mother failed to get married. She preferred putting into sacrifice her happiness for my well-being. Even though she had never told me, I knew she must have suffered a lot in her life, especially sentimentally. When I was a child, I used to ask her all the time where my father was. She always told me that he is dead.
Living without both parents can be challenging. I had to wipe away tears in secret because of my nasty classmates who kept reminding me of not having a father. This was also the case with grown-ups who called me bastard. They were so mean that it had become my name in this neighborhood. When my mother heard this, she moved to another city. Sometimes I caught her crying in her room because of the mean things people did to me. But I asked her not to worry, because for me, she represents a father and a mother at the same time. And it wasn't empty talk. My mother really was. She is a strong woman who has braved the rain and the sun, winds and tides to take care of me and give me a fairly modest life. I had nothing to envy young people of my age. She always ensure for me to always be clean and well dressed. Initially, she offered her services as a cleaning assistant and at the same time she learned sewing. When she managed to glean a sizable sum, she bought herself a sewing machine and opened a workshop in front of our gate. It was with this money that she paid me school to university.
When the doctor told me last year that she had cancer, I thought my world was going to end. I cried all the tears in my body. Since then, I have been desperately looking for work so that I can pay for therapies that are costly. At the beginning, I had found a job as manager of an office automation secretariat. The money was used to feed us and pay for my mother's therapy. But already a month ago, my boss came to tell me that the former manager was already there and that I had to stop work. The savings I had collected have already all been used up. I no longer know where to turn. I am tired of walking around in search of work. Even my shoes are all worn out from walking. Everywhere I go, I am told that we no longer need one more employee. And that even they are the nicest who take the time to answer me. Others snub me, look down on me or ask me to leave their premises without failing to insult me.
Today in the afternoon, I went to a house still with the hope to get a job. The guard opens me and I ask him if his bosses are there.
"What do you want from my bosses?" He asked me the question, looking at me strangely.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for a job. Even if it's for scrubbing the toilet, I'm ready to take it. Do you think your bosses can offer a job to me?"
The guard looks at me a while, perhaps he can see my despair. He finally told me after calming down.
"I don't know. Go ahead and enter this room."
He indicates to me, thanks to his finger, the entrance to the huge house. "Only my boss' wife is there." He continues to say.
I turned around and walked casually in the direction he has indicated to me. I rang as soon as I reached the door and I waited wisely for someone to come and open it for me. A minute later, a woman in her fifties, who looks like a servant, came to open the door for me.
"Hello!" I said hesitantly as she gave me a look that seemed sympathetic to say the least.
"What do you want?" She asked me, staring at me from top to bottom.
"Uh ... is your boss there?"
At this question, I heared a voice coming behind her.
"Mary, why are you taking so long? Who is it?"
Then a lady came out from inside the house, looking at me strangely.
"Hello Madam..." I stammered.
The lady looks at me with disdain, to the point that I lowered my head in shame.
"What are you looking for in my house ? Did they tell you this is a house where tramps have access?"
"No Madam... I'm just looking for work... You know, I can do anything..."
Before I finish speaking, she cries out
"Out of my sight ! You are looking for a job huh? You think I don't know thieves like you? You'll end up stealing all the furnitures of my house, when you'll get the job, right?"
"No Madam, I promise you that I will keep my check and do whatever you like, but please give me a job to do..." I insisted with a pleading gaze.
"Jules!"
She interrupted me, turning to the guard. He comes running towards us and the lady speaks to him with a nod of the head. While I was internally wondering what that meant, the guard carried me unexpectedly. He leads me out of the gate and throws me to the ground like a garbage bag. I get up with difficulty and cry in silence. I feel pain in my back. I wipe off the dust that has stuck to my clothes. Why are people so mean? Did I have to be chased away like this? She could have just told me that she had no work to offer me and I would have come home without a problem.
I take an unknown direction and I walk to a public bench. Sitting in the shade, I think about my setbacks and this miserable life. Why does God allow all of these trials? So am I not entitled to a little break like other people? Why have I suffered so much since my childhood? I cry until my sight blurs with tears. I am sitting on the corner and there is no one near me. Therefore, I pour out all the bitterness from my soul without embarrassment. At least here I can cry however I want. My mom and I sleep in the same room and on the same bed. If I cry, she will know it and feel bad. So I take it upon myself and play hard. Only, there I have more than enough. I can't take this suffering anymore. I want to scream out my pain and pull it out like gall. While I was shedding copious tears I hear
"Hi Sir, is there a problem?"
I lift my tear and snot-drenched face to this person standing in front of me. She hands me disposable tissues and I take them from her hands while thanking her. I clean my face. The strange woman sits next to me on the public bench where I am sitting. I feel ashamed to have been caught by a stranger crying. I tell her then with my head down
"I'm sorry you attended this pityful show!"
"It's nothing. It happens to everyone to have problems in life. And believe me, it is advisable to cry to relieve stress."
"Thank you!"
"So why are you crying? What is your problem? I'm sure there must be a solution to this." She said to me in a calm tone.
"I don't really think so. Unless a large sum of money falls to me like a miracle from heaven." I replied on a whim.
"So marry me!"
Such was the statement of this young lady, and I thought she must be crazy.
Dinam povI thought the young lady was kidding me."Excuse me, you're kidding me right there?!" I asked as I jumped up from the bench I was sitted."Marry me!" She repeated more clearly."But are you crazy ?!" I exclaimed at her proposal which I found very strange."Yes, I'm a little crazy, but it's doable. You are in need of money and I am looking for a husband. What could be more normal than to make a deal?"Her tone was quiet, meanwhile I was so puzzled by her words. I began to spout words without controlling myself."I rather believe that you must be in a satanic sect and you are asked to get married in order to sacrifice your poor future husband. And as you saw me earlier looking desperate, you said to yourself here is the perfect target, the one that will do the trick because he has no other choice, since he is broke."
Dinam povI can't believe it! The young woman from the last time is standing there in the courtyard. Looking at her, I could deduce that she was there a long time ago and therefore, she must have taken part in the scene with the lessor."What are you doing in my home?" I questioned going against her? However, the young woman did not pay attention at me. On the contrary, she ignored me and walked towards the landlord who had stopped his task when he saw her."Young girl, I will not allow you to insult my house!" He thundered angrily."But I didn't insult it, sir. I just described what my eyes were seeing. Anyway, how much does this man owe you?" The young lady interrogated him again. The lessor seems to hesitate a moment, but ends up saying to give the amount of my arrears to the young woman. The latter takes a checkbook from her bag and scri
Maieil povI went home with the hope that Dinam would accept my proposal. His mother seemed to want to help me. She is really nice this beautiful lady! I know that my approach may seem like madness, but it was the only alternative available to me at the moment. Besides, I don't have time to think about the consequences that my approach could have. The most important thing now is to get out of trouble. Either I marry a man with whom I can agree around a marriage contract where everyone will come out a winner. In this case, we can live together for two or three years. Of course, we will just strive to show everyone that we are married, but each will be free from any commitment vis-à-vis one and the other. When the agreed period is over, we separate and each will go their own way. Everyone has something to gain. If this alternative does not work, however, then I will be forced to marry the suitor proposed to me by my mother-in-law, to my greatest dismay. Indee
Very weary of slaving to the left and right without finding a job, Dinam decides to accept this marriage despite finding it strange. No matter how serious he has been thinking day and night, it is his only escape route at the moment.Dinam POVMy future wife and I are going to a nearby town for the celebration of "our wedding". We decided to do things in a very simplistic way. It's just an arranged marriage, none of us is excited to celebrate it. Maieil was forced to do so to escape the suitor her stepmother had in store for her. As for me, I am doing it for my mother. It had been over a month since she had been able to do her therapy. At this level of the disease, she must follow her therapy regularly at the risk of precipitating her life to death. Thanks to the gratuities of my future wife, my mother is now following her therapy very well. Even though I was scared at the start, I decide to let down the guards. Just like me, Maïe
Dinam POVThe good lady looked at me with so much disdain. She was staring at me squarely. As for me, I felt so humiliated. I lowered my head without saying anything. Why of all the houses there were in this town, did I have to come across the same one where I had been humiliated a few weeks earlier? At the same time, I must also admit that I had already walked through more than a third of the big houses and businesses in the city in search of work. I regret that bitterly at this time. Because all these humiliations have led to nothing except to make me be taken for a beggar."It seems to me that you have brought us together to introduce us to your husband! Correct me if I'm wrong. Where is this supposed husband?" Maïeil's stepmother asked, turning to Maïeil."Here's him. Do you know each other? Why are you talking to him so condescendingly?" Maïeil wondered looking around from her stepmother to me.
Dinam povAll eyes were now on us. What to answer to these questions which were by far the trap?"My love, I leave you the honor of telling this table how our meeting went. You are the one who is good at this kind of thing." I say to Maïeil while trying to escape."Ah no no honey! You're the first to approach me, so it's up to you to tell them." Maïeil retorted, making me break into a cold sweat."What's going on? You're a young couple, you're supposed to be excited to talk about how you met. Am I wrong or you don't have any story related to how you met?" The witch intervened."It's true, tell us how it all came about." Adds Maïeil's father."Uh... Actually, Maïeil and I met and we fell in love right away." I tried very hard to say."Where and how did you meet?" Asked Martine i
DinamMaïeil's step-mother is ready to do anything to prove to her husband that our marriage is not true. This lady turned out to be tougher and smarter than I imagined. She managed to find Maïeil and me lying on different places. And I, who hadn't even thought that the idea of spying on us would cross her mind! Luckily I'm not used to sleeping soundly. I wake up most often at the slightest noise. When Martine entered the first time, I woke up when she quietly closed the door. I then rushed to Maïel."Maieil!" I woke her up by shaking her hard. She wakes up painfully. You can tell she was still very sleepy."Dinam? What is it?" She asked me, giving me a curious look."Your mother-in-law came here. She just left. She doesn't know I saw her."Maïeil cursed while getting up quickly.&
MaieilDinam and I insured for this shot. Martine saw nothing but fire. You should have seen the face she was making. If I weren't busy playing indignant in front of my father, I think I would have burst out laughing at the expression on Martine's face. But hey, we were saved this time. We will be more careful next time. However, I am a bit disappointed. I really believed that Dinam was sincere and that I really attracted her. But I soon understood that it was just the game he was playing to make my father and my stepmother believe that we are together. Nevertheless, it seemed so true. It was just missing we would have kissed. To say that dinam had timed everything to the nearest second. I even wanted to snub my dad and his crazy wife when they opened the door.Even though Dinam was acting, I was really sincere. His gaze was so intense that I felt tingles in my lower abdomen. Although when I met him I didn't pay attention to his
