BOOM! BOOM! sounds from my bedroom door, groaning under the pressure as if it was going to break in half at any moment. " Get the fuck out of bed stupid bitch," I hear from the man who's supposed to be my protector. " If you make me late again, I promise you'll regret it for the rest of your pathetic life!" He screams at me through the door. Hearing his loud foot steps stomp down the hallway. I roll over on my side sitting up from the torn futon I call my bed. I had found it by someone's garbage cans walking home from school a couple weeks ago. It was covered in dog hair and a few stains I wasn't sure what they were from. I dragged it behind me taking breaks in between the six blocks, till I reached my neighbor Tawnya's house. Grunting as I pulled the heavy mattress into her back yard over to the garden hose.  I doused it in the antibacterial soap I had been given that day in health class. I stood partially bent over scrubbing away the dog hair with a few of the

New boy
The ride to school was a slow and painful one. Being on consistent alert that he could pull over at any given time and rip me from the back seat, had my stomach churning and tied in knots. We soon reached the school's parking lot. I watched as a few other students hurried away into the building. As he parked his truck I hear him tell me " To get my filthy piece of shit ass out of his truck!" I scramble to open the door hurrying to get out. I walk quickly to walk in front of him, taking the few steps two at a time to get faster into the school. Coming into the school's office Mrs. Sanchez's sweet voice sings out " Good morning  Mr. Sterlite and Jasmine," I smile faintly at her taking a seat in one of the chairs waiting for him to sign me in and soon leave. Tapping my foot nervously I look around to see Mrs. Mulberry glowering at my step father, before she looks over at me giving me the warmest smile. My attentiom quickly adverting to the pain in my left leg. " You b

Unforgiving memories
The rest of school went by in a blur. Not caring for all the prying eyes after my emotional display in English. I would say most of the looks were of pity... but in my life all I did was give them more ammo to make fun of my loss and bully me more. Thankful to be almost home, I see that my step father's truck is missing from the driveway. Praying that ment an easy night for me. I slowly crack the front door open, walking in. I stop for a few seconds listening to make sure I wasn't being deceived and he really wasn't home. I had learned the hard way a few times before. Thinking he was gone only to run straight smack into him earning me a split lip, a long cut down my back near my spine and no food for three days. Creeping quietly throughout the house I let out the breath I had been holding in, thankful he actually wasn't here. I go to the kitchen in hopes of maybe finding some left over food he may have forgotten about. I search the fridge scooting all the beer to the side an

Secret admirer
My nerves were on fire, making me itch all over. I couldn't sit still. Sitting in the kitchen at the table, glancing every few seconds to the clock on the stove. Those two hours of waiting to head over to Tawnya's house were unbearable. Jumping at every little noise. A few times I could have sworn, I heard the roaring of his truck's engine pulling into the driveway. With my pace quickened I had headed into the livingroom. Peeking out from behind the black satin curtains. My eyes rapidly scanning from the driveway to the curb sitting out front of the house. Breathing out a sigh of relief, that my mind was only playing tricks on me.I hated that I couldn't even enjoy the time of being by myself. My anxiety consistently sky rocketing making me feel tired and sick. Worried when he might show up. My life was an neverending nightmare, reliving flash backs on a daily basis of the torture he put me through. Everything in this house was a reminder of the pain I went through and still

Surprise
Moving quickly I rushed out grabbing the white box, glancing over to my house breathing out in a sigh of relief that my step father still wasn't home and wouldn't see me out here, as I walk back into the house T looks at the rectangular box in my arms smiling wide. " Santa brrr-ot you a present early!" she squeals out in excitement. I chuckle at her sweet innocence. " Nooo, I don't think it was Santa. He's still on vacation until Christmas," I tell her. She seems to ponder over what I said. " Yeah its still to warm for Ruud- olf," she sweetly answers. Smiling at her sweet face noding my head up and down chuckling lighlty. I carry the rectangular box into the kitchen placing it down on the table. My thoughts racing as my nerves begin to go haywire the longer I stare at the box. For the life of me I couldn't figure out who would have left something like this for me... I didn't have any friends or family that cared about me or boys who liked me and Mrs. Mulberry always gave me he

Unexpected Guest
A loud thud rang out through the house downstairs, making me jolt awake, my body trembling lightly as I sat up on the guest bed listening for any more racket. Jumping as I heard another loud thud followed by a few poorly choosen words. I scurried from the bed sprinting across the room to the door; cracking it just enough for me to peek through the small opening. Not hearing anymore noises or cursing from down below. I gather the small bit of courage I could aquire and made my way down the hall to the stairs, as reached the stairs the sound of glass shattering bounced off the air in the house followed by a " Oh for fucks sake! That's going to be great to fucking clean up in the morining Darren!" I hear a voice bellow out. I hurried down the stairs flicking on the livingroom light were alll the camotion seemed to be coming from. Stepping into the livingroom I am met with an upset Tawnya and the guy I presume to be Darren stuck in the frame of Tawnya's coffe table and glass scatterd ar

Morning After
Waking up the next day to the steady sound of the alarm beeping, I could feel every tight pinch of my muscles, as they protested angerly with every slight movement I took. Sitting up I say a quiet thank you to whoever maybe listening up above thankful to see Tasha was still peacefully sleeping. I don't think I could have dealt with her pulling and hugging on my legs at the moment. Today was going to be a long day at school, three hours of sleep wasn't much to go on for the day. Grabbing my back pack I slowly move to stand, groaning as I made my way out of the room and across the hall to the bathroom. Happy to see that it was empty. I quickly walked in turning and locking the door behind me. Moving at a snails pace I head over to the shower, grumbling out as a sharp pain radiated down my back from bending over to turn it on.  My arms felt like jello everytime I lifted them to wash or rinse my hair, at one point I had even dropped the soap, watching it slide back and fort

Minute Longer
I couldn't do anything but stare out the back window as Tawnya's car pulled further away from my house. I just prayed that he wouldn't show up at my school and I wasn't sure what I was going to tell Mrs. Sanchez as to why he wasn't here today to sign me in. I'm so seriously screwed! Why, would I do something so stupid like this! If only I had just stood there for a mintue longer, I wouldn't be in this postion I am right now! Maybe I am as stupid as he tells me... What person in their right mind would risks getting tortured just so they weren't late to school.  " Jazzy, will you sing the Abc's with me?" I hear T's sweet voice ask me, breaking me out of my frantic thoughts. " I would love to sing the Abc's with you," I answer her softly.  I had to force my mind to stay focus on T as I sang along with her. Her face was so bright with happiness as her voice went up high and down low with each letter she squealed out, causing a small chuckle out of me and her mom. I was

To be continued
Hi everyone! I'm sooooo turly sorry that I haven't been able to update as frequently as I would like and it's been quite sometime sense I have.... Unfortunately as I have mentioned before, I have been struggling with being sick on top of having family and friends pass away over these last few months. I wish what I was typing was an update on more Chapters but sadly, I'm typing in hopes of asking for more of everyone's patience. My underlying health has been horrible and I haven't been getting better. So I'm going to be scheduled for surgery soon. Any and all prayers that could be sent my way would be a blessing in this struggling time. I hope in the coming weeks or month that I will be feeling myself again soon and will be able to get back to writing at full force! I just wanted to let you all know I didn't forget about you all and I'm thankful for each of your support! Thank you for reading!  S. Jones
