Chapter 40: Constant change
Lance Spiller Waking up with this painful feeling I had in my chest made me feel useless as days were passing, and I did nothing aside from staying inside this private hospital at the company. I was always forcing myself to work on anything that may come to my mind. I did this to avoid getting drowned in my negative thoughts. Every time I draw on scratch paper paired with a graphite pencil placed inside a small square that I asked from my teammates, I felt relieved. I can also adjust the pencil according to the length that you wished to have. But the most important thing was, the sensation of being vocal in your way about how you had been feeling was the most satisfying part.  I was sitting right here beside the corner of my bed while making sort of scribble art. I can't fix my posture properly because of the injury I had with my chest. The unusual feeling of getting hit by a bullet kept flashing in my mind. It was dist

Chapter 41: Meeting the Esperers
Sophia Codache I brought with me my backpack while striking my way to school. Twirling with me my pen between my fingers while my other hand placed inside the pocket of the skirt I wore, I groaned. I blew an air after roaming my eyes around the gloomy skies above me. Everything around felt boring. There was no sense of excitement at all. The environment I am living in, the school, the road, the birds, the wind, all those things that I always encounter, it felt irrelevant.  My life revolves around waking up, eating, going to school, going home, and vise versa. The feeling of loneliness every time I opened my notes at home is killing me.  Seeing those leaves that flew at every corner of this road, the wind clothed around my arms. I stilled, wondering about this strange feeling I felt right now. I was about to start walking again when I heard footsteps from the back. I swiftly turned around to see

Chapter 42: Vibrant thoughts
Cassius and Hanaele brought me to a hidden place which growing plants and species surrounded by it. Right in front of their towering wooden gate, a logo of a fierce-looking eagle captured my sight. I think this is their logo. There were also four symbols behind it, which meaning confused me. It was a familiar writing style from ancient times, but they made it more creative this time with a fixed circle surrounded by the eagle that looked like an eye.  "You must be wondering towards something, Sophia." Hanaele placed her palm above my right shoulder as she noticed me starring above the gate. After that, she stood straight with both hands at her back while looking at that eagle symbol. Cassius went ahead of us with the rest of the people, which I did not know how to call them since they were wearing the same clothes, guarded him.  I looked down as I realized that I had not introduced myself formally to her. Also, the thought of Hanae

Chapter 43: Becoming an Agila
"Good day, your honor." Hanaele and Cassius bowed respectfully in chorus in front of this muscular old man in a leathered brown suit with different logos sewed at the right side of his arms. He was sitting on his wooden chair, facing the window away from us. While all of them were doing this noble stuff, I felt awkward about the situation. I have noticed that these people who live here were mostly courteous with one another. But I guess I was judging too fast. Besides, it was just my first time meeting the society here. When these two at my sides were done making a bow, the old man stood up. "You two are here, so I'd be expecting good news from the both of you." His voice was deep and fitted for his position. Base on what he said, he was probably the one who tasked Hanaele to bring me here.  Cassius glanced at Hanaele for a while before he spoke. They were communicating with each other by using their eyes. Now I wondered what these two

Chapter 44: New life, new people
Sitting in front of these people who shared things in common, I felt unsettled while scooping good food in my mouth. The dark empty room with only a few things collided with the silence. It was awkward to eat at this moment.  As I roamed my eyes around them, I spotted Hanaele's eyes hesitating to pick up her eating utensils. Her hands were going back and forth to the spoon and fork placed beside each side of her plate. Her eyes were confused while making decisions out of uncertainty.  Cassius noticed her reaction. His eyes were worried and seemed to put himself onto her shoes. Since he sat beside Hanaele, he gently held Hanael's hand, guided it towards the spoon. The spoon was placed above the fork. Hanaele felt relieved, glancing towards Cassius as she smiled, showing a glimpse of appreciation.  I was wondering the reason behind Hanaele's confusion. Although both the fork and the spoon were different in c

Chapter 45: Folded Morning
The sunlight from the window woke me up in the morning as it slapped over my face. I get off to bed with my eyes half-opened. I slowly went towards the window and glanced at the calm scenery outside. It was quiet with only few children playing outside. The houses looked elegant with their simple yet satisfying designs. Compared to what we have in my previous homeland, these houses were the most modest. I cannot say that the village they have here is old nor futuristic. I guess I was living in a middle time environment. Oh well, I did not even know the way back home then.  I shook my head and smiled, trying to forget what I have before.  "Ah, the rain has stopped. The sun looks lovely today, isn't it, Sophia?~" The cute, enthusiastic voice of Flora, which made me recognized her immediately, entered this humble room with only a bed, small table, and old-wooden chair. When I glanced at her, she was smiling while putting food above the

Chapter 46: Future Sword
Standing aligned with these private cadets right here while in a snap of putting our arms at our back when our squad leader commanded, I felt embarrassed about the slow response I had. I wandered my eyes around to check if someone caught my delay. But, I felt more awkward after seeing those serious, tiger-looking faces of my fellow cadets. Their forehead wrinkled while giving a strong impression on their eyes. When I glanced at my back to see the reaction of a random girl, she did not look at me, not even for a millisecond. She was wearing a ponytail with slightly curved eyebrows, which made her looked sad. But because of how she looked straight, her expression changed.  Should I also follow what they did? Ah, I was not prepared for this. Hanaele and Cassius have not told me anything about this. "Pst! Sophia, what are you doing?" Flora called my attention in the softest volume of her voice, after noticing the unnece

Chapter 47: Resentment from impeccabilities
Flora swung her arrowed rope, supported by her right arm, towards the concrete buildings to support her weight as she flew above the air. She twirled herself in the middle around it as it went spiraling. Because of what she did, she looked like a girl imprisoned behind those ropes.  "Look what I did, Sophia! It's so amazing, yay!~" She shouted out of pride to perform the skill that our senior taught her for the past few days. That senior officer is a professional in the field of what Flora chose. So it's no longer a question of why she taught her easily for a short period. Besides, I think Flora is a fast learner.  I ran towards her as she landed back to the ground without injuries. "You're doing great every day." I praised in a low tone voice. She noticed my soft reaction towards her. "Eh? You don't even look like you're proud of me! Pfft!" She stomped her foot while crossing her arms. She pouted and looked aw

Chapter 48: The Sound Mind
"Which future are you talking about?" Hanaele asked, clarifying the thoughts I shared with her with the concern about our lives. After that event, I could not concentrate on every task that the Agila squad officers ordered us to do.  It was midnight right now, and only the stars gave light to our sight. Hanaele was standing on the rooftop, so I went towards her to clarify things that kept bothering in my mind.  I tilted my head after hearing her response. I was slightly confused about her question, and I could not digest what she meant.  "The goals we have. What are they?" I argued, making a few steps closer to her until I reached her side. But, she quickly stepped forward and looked up to the sky.  "They were imposed to give meaning towards our actions. Just like how the stars appeared to confirm our existence." She whispered in the middle of a cold strike of the night.

Chapter 49: 113th Expedition
Tattered sounds of the horses' footsteps along with the mud and the dim humidity of weather echoed within the woods. The squads began to separate, following the command of each commander assigned for every regiment.  Our squad leader, Larch Laverens, remained at his position while Cassius turned back towards us. On the other hand, Hanaele was in charge of the Sabahi. Nover fit himself between Flora and me out from no idea how I could know where he came from.  "Hayah!" He expressed to accelerate the speed of the horse he was riding. Flora and I quickly turned our attention towards him.  Despite interfering with our gap, he did not bother to look into us. Besides, he has this unwritten reaction on his face while looking straight to the way.  "Hey! You're here!~" Flora asked, and her eyebrows almost collided with each other.  Nover just glanced at her for a
