Chapter 38

Nancy shrieked in surprise. Her instincts told her to fight back, but she heard that something was happening to Harvey.

She asked anxiously, "What happened? Did something happen to Harv?"

"His marriage! Harv and Susie are going to get engaged soon. If we don't gather enough money soon, she's going to break up with him. And he's going to kill himself!" Urma slapped Nancy.

Urma then continued sobbing. "Why did I give birth to such a useless daughter? You can't even help out with your brother's marriage. Do you want all of us to die?"

Nancy was stupefied as the pain stung her cheek.

Tears swelled in her eyes almost instantly. She shouted in agony, "But I've already thought of everything I could possibly do. What else do you want from me?"

Urma gave Nancy another slap. "Lies! Harv told me that Austin is rich. Why did you not take the money from him and divorce him instead? You're trying to drive your brother to the edge!"

Nancy's mind went blank as she stared at Urma with teary eyes
