“What’s going on, William.” Nathaniel called out to his son as they all ran to the boarder.
“Layla, she is here. I could read her mind.” William said. As they all continue to speed through the woods.
“Something is wrong with her, she is in pain, we need to get to her now.” William said. The entire family were worried for Layla’s safety.
“Where is she?” Grace spoke.
“She is at the borders crossing of our territory.” William Spoke.
“Brea and William you go to where Brea heard the scream come from. Grace and I will go to the south side of the border line and see if anyone is there. Nicholas and Eric, you search the north side of the territory. If anyone sees any sign of Layla, we call out to one other. All of you understand?” Nathaniel asked. All of them nodded their heads. Even though none of the vampires were really related they felt and acted like a family, and Nathaniel clearly suited the fatherly figure in their family. Everyone nodded to his plan, before they all broke apart and started running in different directions.
…
Layla fought with everything in her to push ahead as the pain in her wrist shot through her entire body. She knew she had to get off the wolves’ territory, they wouldn’t be able to hurt her more than they already have if she could just reach the border of their territory. She ran as fast as she could, but she was so disorientated due to the loss of blood and pain. Her mind filled like it was filled with fog. She tripped once again over her own feet but continue to push herself up once more and run to the river. All she had to do was get past the river and onto her family’s territory
‘Will, I need you.’ Layla couldn’t help but long for him at that moment. She just wanted him to appear in front of her and hold her tight. She wanted him to hold her and make her feel safe again. Layla’s eyes filled with tears, blurring her vision even more than it already was. She stumbled once more, and this time fell in the shallow waters of the river. The water burned the wound on her left wrist and a pained cried left her lips. She knew she had to move fast if she wanted to get away from the wolves, but her energy was depleting with each passing second.
“Layla!” a familiar voice called out to her. She looked up as she was still on both hands and knees in the water. Her eyes were too blurry, and she couldn’t see anything but to weirdly shaped figures, but she knew who one of them were, she had heard that voice to many times to not recognize it. A pained smiled formed on her lips as hope filled her.
“Will.” Layla said, barely above a whisper.
“Layla!” William called out again as he run towards them, but his voice wasn’t filled with excitement or relief but rather fear and panic. Layla’s short-lived hope, shattered as she felt two warm arms wrap around her waist and pulled her up from the water. Her head fell against a hard chest. Her vision could only make out the caramel-colored skin of the person that held her. Panic once again filled her chest.
“No.” Layla said breathlessly and tried to break the hold of the warm arms around her, but it was useless, even if she was at full strength, she wouldn’t eb able to break his hold on her.
“Let her go!” William screamed as he continued to push forward, and his harsh footsteps could be heard echoing from the woods floor. William run towards where Layla and Aiden were and he pulled back his fist before lifting off the ground and punching Aiden square in the jaw. Brea wasn’t far behind William, she was ready catch Layla as Aiden dropped his arms around her, but a wolf jumped from behind and tackle her down to the ground. Layla fell into the water, she shocked as the water filled her nose and throat. With the little energy she had, she pushed her head above the water and tried to crawl closer to the edge of the river. Aiden and William were pushing one another, one blow after another. William punched Aiden across the face ones more then placed another punch against his stomach which sent Aiden flying back. William turned to see Layla in pain in the water, he moved to step towards her, but Aiden wrapped his arms around William and picked him up and over his head before throwing William on the ground. Again, punches were exchange, it sounded like thunder as the blows landed on their bodies. It wasn’t long before the Lancaster Clan reached the chaos. Grace run to Layla who was still inching forward in the water, but another wolf jumped out towards her, but Nathaniel was quick in tackling the wolf down to the ground before it could reach his wife. Grace picked Layla out of the water and carried her to their side of the territory. Nicholas run to his injured sister, while Eric protected Layla and him. Grace ran back into the river to fight of the wolves as more and more appeared from the woods.
“Hey kiddo. Are you okay?” Nicholas asked Layla, but her eyes were foggy, and her body colder than it was supposed to be.
“Layla, can you hear me?” Nicholas asked as he tore her white long-sleeve shirt and placed it around her wound. Eric watched as a wolf jumped on Brea and was going for the kill. He sprinted towards them and landed another thunderous blow on the wolf. He pulled Brea, back onto the territory. Eric run to help Nathaniel who was also fighting of a wolf and pulled Nathaniel on their territory. Grace followed and then both Eric and Nathaniel had to pull William away from his fight and onto their territory. As soon as William heard a small cry coming from layla, his focus completely shifted from the fight to her. He hurried next to her side and laid a gentle hand down onto her cheek.
“Layla.” William softly whispered. As her eyes continually flatter closed and open. He placed some loos strands of wet hair, behind her ear. Layla subconsciously lifted her weak arm and held onto William’s hand.
“I’m here.” William whispered to her, but her eyes had fallen close as the dark consumed her. All the wolves stood in the middle of the river, none of them daring to cross the invisible territory line, but desperately wanting too. The wolves growled at the vampires as the bended down towards the human. It was their duty as wolves to protect a human from bloodsuckers, but not being able to cross the line, made it impossible. The one wolf slowly stepped away and hid himself behind the tree line before returning in his human form, a black basketball short covering the things that needed to be covered.
“Nathaniel. The human is our responsibility. You have no right to take her.” Jackson said, his alpha voice ringing out in the woods.
“I have all the right! This human is my daughter. What have you done to her?” Nathaniel asked. He was a very calm man mostly, but seeing his daughter unconscious on the group, bleeding, made him infuriated.
“Nathaniel, the human will be in better care with us. You need to return her to the wolves.” Jackson said.
“Take Layla back to house and take care of her there. William and grace go with them.” Nathaniel said. William gently placed his arms behind Layla’s back and under her legs, before picking her up. Her head laid against his chest, and he couldn’t help but feel some relief and happiness as Layla was once again in is arms. William gave one last look towards the wolf that had picked Layla up first from the water, he tried to read his mind, but all that could be heard was the same phrase. ‘Get your hands off her.’ William turned and ran towards the house as Grace and Nicholas followed. Aiden hated to see the human leaving with the enemies, he took a step forward, but Jackson was quick to hold out his arm and stopped Aiden from taking one more step.
“We have had a treaty for many years, Nathaniel, do not break it today.” Nathaniel said after Layla was far away enough. Nathaniel looked at his remain children and nodded. Nathaniel turned to leave, but Jackson words cause Nathaniel to freeze in his place.
“The human can't be with vampires, she was bitten.”
Layla’s entire body was stiff and sore, and her head was filled with the beat of her heart. Layla stirred and tried to sit up, but two hands pushed her back down. She tried to push the hands away and tried to sit up again, but it was no use. Soft cold hands stroked her forehead gently.“Your okay, Layla. Your safe.” A voice softly spoke in her ear. She couldn’t make out the voice, but she trusted his words. Layla stopped fighting the person and fell back into the darkness. When Layla woke up again, her muscles were finally relaxed, and her body was in a lot less pain. She ran her hands over a soft material, a familiar material. She opened her eyes and looked at the soft white cotton bunched up in her fingers. She slowly sat up to stare out of a glass wall that showed the comforting landscape of the woods and the walls in the room were filled with pictures and paintings of her memories. She was in her room. Her really room. Excitement filled her entire being. She throwed the covers ov
“Just please tell me the truth. You guys are scaring me. Why is the wolf here?” Layla said as she sat down after the rest of her family did the same. Nathaniel sat next to Layla as she continued to pick at the skin on her finger joints, a nervous habit she has had since she was a child.“We know there was an accident and that Aiden bite you.” Nathaniel said, but it still left Layla with a little answer.“Okay…” Layla said nervously for the rest of the story that would follow.“It has been pack-law for centuries now, that no wolf may bite a human, a specially a woman.” Nathaniel said. Layla’s heartbeat picked up at the look on Nathaniel’s face. It was clear he didn’t want to say the rest.“The reasoning behind this law was because wolves who bit woman would only cause two certain outcomes. Either the woman would change into a wolf, or she would die in the process and even if she did happen to shift her mental state would deteriorate as time passed.” Nathaniel said. Layla frowned at his
William was the first to inspect her wound. The silence was the only thing that filled the room. William ran his thumb over the red mark. The confusion and shock clear on his face. He turned Layla around and inspected Layla herself. She looked the same as she always did, her heartbeat to the same rhythm that it always had, and the intake of breath followed with the out take of it. She seemed exactly like the girl he has always known.“How did this happen?” William asked as he rolled up Layla’s shirt and pulled it over her arms and then over her head. Layla pulled the shirt down over her black sports bra. Their interaction seemed natural and common, like a married couple that followed the same routine every day.“I walked home from the art studio after I finished my day. When I came home, the lights weren’t working, so I sat all my things down to go back outside to check the power box, but someone grabbed me from behind. Everything happened so fast. He pushed me against the wall and b
“You be safe, okay honey?” Grace told her daughter and placed Layla’s hair behind her ear. Layla gave her a smile and nodded.“I’ll miss you guys.” Layla said as she hugged her mom and dad once more. Nathaniel, place a kiss on top of her head and rubbed her back lovingly.“Will miss you too. Just make sure you come home, safe, and healthy. That’s all we care about.” Nathaniel said. Layla moved from her parents to her brothers.“Do you think Brea is coming?” Layla asked as she leaned into Eric’s hug.“You know how she feels about the wolves being here. Don’t take it personally.” Nicholas said. Layla knew what he said was true, but she just really missed her sister.“Don’t get into any trouble while I’m gone.” Layla jokingly said to Eric and an evil smile formed on his lips.“You know just as well as me, that I can’t promise that.” Eric joked back.“I’ll try to keep the reins on him.” Nicholas said. Eric clicked his tong and moved behind his boyfriend. He placed his arms around Nicholas
Layla didn’t know what to expect for the wolves’ pack house, but once she saw it, it was different from what she would have imagine. The house was quite large and had the structure and feel of a cabin. It felt homier than Layla was expecting. Layla followed the others into the house and the inside followed with the theme of a homey cabin. It was very spacious and was two stories high.“I’ll show you too your room.” Aiden said. Layla simply nodded as she still took everything in. She followed Aiden as they walked through a dining room and then up the stairs. He led her to the last room on the second floor. He opened the door for her and then placed her bag on her bed. The room was clearly prepared for a guest. It had two huge windows on the far side wall that overlooked the woods and the bed looked comfy and neat with white covers over it. The room had its own bathroom and a desk as well.“You can get comfortable and pack away your things, then I’ll come get you later for dinner.” Aide
Layla ran into the woods as fast as she could, while trying to leave as little tracks behind and being as quite as possible. She hugged herself as close to the tree as she could and tried to stay as quite as she could. Layla kept her ears sharp trying to hear anything, leaves crunching, a gush of wind, anything at all. A few seconds had pass and nothing happened. Layla slowly pushed herself off the tree and turned around. The woods were empty, and the coast was clear. Layla turned around and screamed as William appeared out of nowhere.“Ahh! You said you wouldn’t use any of your vampire skills.” Layla yelled and slammed his arm, knowing it did nothing to him, but it made her feel better. William laughed at her.“I didn’t have to use any abilities; you were just that easy to find.” William teased Layla.“Liar.” Layla joked and then suddenly ran away. William used his speed and stopped in front of her.“Now I used my abilities.” William said with a smile. Layla grinned at him.“I’ll sti
Layla groaned as she pushed herself off the hard floor, she had accidental fallen asleep on. She looked around the room for her phone that was ringing. The light of her phone shined on her night table. She pulled herself up and moved slowly to the phone as her body was aching. She lifted the phone and answered the phone without even checking to see who called.“Hello.” Layla said with sleep still heavy in her voice.“Did I fake you?” Williams asked. A faint smile formed on Layla’s lips, she laid back on her bed and pulled the covers over her. She placed her phone next to her and place William on speaker.“Mmm.” Layla simple answered.“Did you have a late night? Why are you still asleep this late in the morning?” William asked, a bit of worry seeping out of his voice. Before Layla could answer another voice spoke.“Layla don’t tell me you have already party with the wolves? Are you sleeping off your hangover?” Eric’s said jokingly. Layla couldn’t help but let out a small laugh at the r
Layla and Aiden had spent most of the day together. He had help her bandage her burn wound and then after he showed her a bit more of their territory. At first it was a bit awkward between them, but the more they spoke to one another the less awkward it became. Aiden had learned that layla was a very sweet and kind of shy person with a bit of a dry humor, but he liked it and layla learned that Aiden seemed intimidating and cold, but he had a soft spot for everyone he loved, he also seemed a lot gentler than his exterior made him come forth. Layla hadn’t seen any of the other wolves through out the entire day, but she think Aiden had asked them to back off for today. She also only had dinner with Aiden at the end of the day. It was actual quit a nice day all in all.Layla sat in front of her new sketch pad and finished with the last details of her new drawing. She knew it was late and that she be trying to sleep, but she had a bigger urge to finish her current drawing. She buffed out t
