Chapter 19"Well?" Derek asked grimly.Nancy said nothing, she just stood there staring blankly at the man in front of her. Was this some kind of joke or a dream perhaps? It had to be. How can this man be as beautiful as sin and what was she supposed to do, hate him? "God damn it!" Nancy said in frustration, a hand rubbing her forehead to soothe the headache that was already threatening to burst her brain."Is there no end to your foul language, Coffee?" She heard Derek ask in disgust."Did you say coffee?" Nancy asked instead, she heard him say it the first time, thought it was a mistake and now he was saying it again. "And what if I did?" He retorted.Nancy turned around like she was searching for something, "I don't see any coffee around here""Oh, but you look like one. I mean you have the exact same color like coffee." She saw him relax as he folded his hands across his chest. Her temper was rising terribly by the minute, how in hell was she even supposed to put up with this ma
Chapter 20Unlike many men, spending the night with his soon to be bride was not something Derek looked forward to or even enjoyed. Last night had been nothing short of hell for him, he was too pissed to even partake in any of the parties that were going on around the house. His men were jubilating and joining in on the celebrations, many even stopped by to congratulate him on his betrothal and soon to hold marriage.Anger and frustration. That was the only feelings that surged through his body as he listened to the chattering going on and on about him and his ebony bride. Involuntarily, Derek's mind wandered back to Nancy, she had come into his life uninvited and occupied everything; his life and his thoughts. Somehow, Derek found that he could not keep his thoughts straight without thinking about the woman, the beginning of his sorrows. She was nothing like he had seen before, feisty and fiery as hell herself. With her foul temper and sharp mouth, she was going to drive him crazy i
Chapter 21Blind rage. It filled Nancy's spirit like a terrible ailment that needed a cure, yet that cure was not forthcoming, not now, not anytime soon. Nancy stood there staring after Derek, the man that was supposed to be her husband in a few hours. He intended to treat her like a piece of trash? He saw her like filth, for something she knew absolutely nothing of, how did she get here? Whoever told him she wanted to be married to him? He was insufferable enough, his proud self and arrogance. She had only met him last night and he was already causing her too much trouble. First, it was her damn thought that would go anywhere away from him, try as she could to divert it and now he was standing before his father and all family and his men, rejecting her openly like a worthless piece of shit. Nancy felt her breathing hitch as she stared after him, his mother chose that time to run towards her in what Nancy considered a feigned worry."Lydia darling. How are you? Pay no mind to Derek,
chapter 22Nancy could barely sleep that night, and so when she opened her eyes and saw the morning sun sipping in through the window, she was extremely glad. Before she could sit up, three maids were beside her, each with different items of body adornments. One had two big ball gowns- no, wedding gowns both white and decorated with diamonds and silver linings, both richly pleated and flowing down to the ground even as the maid held them high above her head in both hands. Another maid had a bowl of jewelry in hand and another bowl containing what appeared to be beauty kits. The other one had two different pairs of shoes with her, ones she had never seen in her entire existence. Nancy could only watch in fascination as they all waited patiently for her. She did not know when a gasp escaped her lips, the maids smiled immediately. "Good morning My Lady" They all chorused simultaneously. "Good morning." "Lady Marylyn ordered us to prepare you, My Lady." The first girl said sweetly. "P
Chapter 23Derek's eyes were drawn to the vision in white walking towards him on the aisle. He could not believe for a second that this was the venomous woman he had spoken with just yesterday. He had known she was beautiful, but somehow, in this wedding gown, she looked exquisite. He was almost tempted to smile up at her as her father led her towards him, hand in hand. Even the congregation were silent, everyone watched the bride and some even passed glances between the bride and groom to see the groom's reaction to his beautiful wife. At the feel of Harvey's elbow being pressed against his ribs, Derek managed to smile up at his approaching bride. He had never seen a black bride in a wedding gown before but today he was not only seeing but he was getting married to one. She had said she would try to stop this, that she only needed to meet and talk to her parents, and here, here she was, being led by her father to the alter. What had happened? Had the conversation not gone as planned?
Chapter 24Nancy was too withdrawn from the activities to actually pay attention to whatever was going on, she spent the remaining day of the wedding beside Derek in the large parlor of his parents house where plenty of guests and family gathered to drink and merry while he went on to join the men in their feast. They would move to their own house by morning of the next day, but for now, the feast had to go on here. The celebration feast that followed was a mockery as far as Nancy was concerned. She had nothing to celebrate, and neither did Derek, yet they sat through it, side by side, enduring the good natured jests and crudities that typically accompanied a wedding. In fact, everyone was enjoying themselves, except the newly married couple. Even Lydia's family was in high spirits, which Nancy found rather disgusting, since she had come to the conclusion that they all cared less for their daughter to actually find out what was going on with her. It was the atmosphere, she supposed, a
Chapter 25Nancy dumped the heavy gown on the bed after trying hard to gather it off the floor. She turned to see Derek still staring at her, she was tempted to smack him in the face so he would look away but she changed her mind and went into the bathroom instead. Since the whole house was busy and everyone expected that the newlyweds were probably having a nice time together, Nancy decided not to disturb the maids either. She filled the bath tub with water and sank inside it, the cold water was refreshing. It helped to relax her mind. Here, her thoughts drifted to the small village stream that she was used to swimming in back in her own village. She would play with Mmabong there as a child, sometimes with other children and then they would return home to a delicious meal likely prepared by her friend's mother. Nancy smiled at the thought, those were memories, memories that will never replay itself. She was now married herself and God help her, she might even become a mother someday.
Chapter 26Derek did not go far, he stood outside the door contemplating, his thoughts were in disarray. Where was he to go? Everyone expected that he would be with his wife, if they saw him outside by chance they would likely drag him back to the room. Not even his best friend, Harvey, would be willing to help. Derek guessed correctly that he would probably be in one corner, having fun with his favorite slave. What had he done? Had he not tried to kiss her? He had tried to punish her, to vent out part of this anger and frustration on her. But he had ended up enjoying himself. That kiss, that kiss. He had been stupid enough to try to get himself drunk, in the hope that he would be able to sleep and forget about his curvy ebony bride who was going to sleep beside him on that bed. And thanks to his stupid resolve and this crazy situation he was in, he had sworn not to touch her- he had promised. But what did he do when he found out he couldn't keep to that promise? He had tried- to vent
