Chapter 22

Asher and Layla watched in disbelief as the two police vehicles drove down the driveway and away from his house. The black and white of the cars were only highlighted by the flashing red and blue lights. Soon enough, the cars disappeared and the last of the flashing lights with them.

“Did that just happen?” Layla asked in a shocked whisper. She had seen and heard it all, but couldn’t believe it. She blinked and gazed in the direction the police cars had disappeared. “I can’t believe that happened,” she muttered.

Before Asher could come up with an answer, not that he could even think of one, he was completely baffled; Luckily for him, another car entered his driveway. As it got closer, he recognized the car.

“You called Dave?” Asher turned to his sister and arched his eyebrow.

Her hand came up in a gesture that said ‘duh.’ “Come on, Asher, strange shit happened here tonight... of course I called Dave.”
