Max could see she was starting to hate when they were going home. She knew what was waiting for them when they did arrive. The boxes would be stacked at the front door and piled high. She was starting to hate everything about those hours that she would have to open the letters to get what was inside and then throwing the letters into a box for the police to go through. He thought of something that might make her ease a bit.
When they loaded up the car, he turned on the music and started driving. She had closed her eyes and laid her head back, so Deanna had no idea they were headed to somewhere other than their house. About ten minutes into the drive, which would be nearing their house, she opened her eyes and saw that they were nowhere near it. She looked at Max with a confused look on her face.
“I thought we were going home?” Deanna said so
The two got the kids settled for the time being with his parents and assured Henry that they would be back soon, and everything was okay. Max’s father took him out back to the yard where he had put up the playscape that he had told Henry he would be getting while he was in the hospital.“I told you I would get it.” Max’s father told all of them as he smiled. “Now, maybe there will be some joy in this house when it comes to children.”“Thanks, Dad,” Max said with a smile as he took hold of Deanna’s hand and led her out of the house and to the car. “We will only be gone for an hour or two. You don’t have to worry.”“I wasn’t worried,” Deanna said softly.“My love, you are the worst liar on the planet.” He
Max looked at Deanna as they enjoyed the last of the day at the park down the road from his parent's house. She seemed more relaxed than she had been in the past few days. He wanted to keep her that way. He needed to keep her that way, but he didn’t know how to. That was an underlying thing he wanted to give her, that sense of peace to be able to go through her days without thinking all the time about the things that lay ahead. It all came back to those damn letters that her brother was having sent to her. There had to be something he could do to get them to stop coming. The more he thought about it, the more he wanted to go and have a little chat with David himself though he knew that would end badly for the both of them. There had to be a way around the federal laws and have them go somewhere else. He then had an idea, but it wasn’t for right now. He wanted the re
When they got to the house, all Deanna wanted to do was get the kids and go home. She was now even more on edge than before, and Max was left behind her shaking his head. It seemed the more he wanted to give her some peace, it was the opposite that happened. Though the advice that Tami had given her was something she did need to hear, it was hard not to play along with David’s game as they were still at the beginning of this whole mess.Max wanted to wrap her up and put her somewhere where this couldn’t touch her anymore. It was going to drain her in ways she didn’t even know, and he knew what would happen then. Nothing he could do would save them from the outcome no matter how hard he tried. He looked at her as she helped his mom pack up Michelle, and Henry was walking as he pushed the big truck he knew his father had got for him. Max knew if everything conti
Deanna waited until they got back to the house before she began to really look at Max. He was acting so weird when they were at the house that she was slightly confused. Max had been the one who rolled with everything that had happened and even the one who was pushing to get married quickly. Though he said it was to protect her, she knew it was so much more that he wanted. He wanted to secure his family, but the look on his face at his parent's house despite the fact he seemed different now was still bothering her.“I say we burn them,” Max said as he lifted the last huge bin of letters that was left at their door. “Who really cares about the money anymore?”“Well, considering we are bringing in about five to six thousand every day now, I would say the charity,” Deanna stated as she looked them over. “Max, I can
The water hit their skin and instantly made them both feel better. Though it was a simple thing, Max knew this was the best way to get her to relax a bit more though he was the one who seemed to need it. He was trying to forget his thoughts of her walking away from him and the kids, but he was just able to push them to the back of his head. He would have to deal with all of that later. Now was a time to focus on her and the statement that he was the hottest guy she had ever seen.Though his mind was telling him that she wasn’t lying about that, something told him that it couldn’t happen. She kept saying that she thought he was attractive, but he still didn’t believe it. To him, it was pointless to argue with her about it. She would huff and then walk away from the conversation. It was like discussing how
As Max walked around the green field next to the building, he taught out of watching Henry run around looking for his newest rock that would be exactly like the others he had collected and kept by his travel bed in Max’s office. Max thought about how his life had changed so much in the past few weeks. He never thought it was possible to be this content in life.Michelle, wrapped in a blanket in his arms, started to make some noise as she seemed to smile at Max. “And what are you so happy about, princess?” he asked softly at the baby.“Professor?” Max heard and turned to see a female student in front of him. He hadn’t ever seen her before, but she was looking at him the same way the others had that had made a bet with each other about trying to get him into a situation.“Henry, come here,” Max said as he reached d
Max thought about it for a minute. Then he looked around the office. “Pack up the kids.”“Max, what is going on?” Deanna asked.“Someone wants to play. I am sick of this, Deanna. I am sick of waiting for them to make a move, and we are always left reacting to whatever problem. Now it is our turn to turn the tables. I hope what that kid said was the truth, and they have no way of contacting Mr. X. The unknown one. “ Max said. “The first thing we are going to do is take the kids to my parent's house. Then you and I are going to the police in the midlands and talking to the detective in charge of all of this. Hopefully, we can get enough support that we can get this guy or someone close to him.”“Max,” Deanna said as she looked at him.“No.” He said. “You have t
As they pulled up to the house, his parents lived in Max was quickly out of the car. He was undoing the car seats and buckles. He looked up to see his father standing there with a slight grin on his face. “Twice in as many weeks?” Mitchel asked as he looked at the pair unloading the car.“There is a problem, and we need you to watch these two for a while. Hopefully, it will only take a few hours, but I am not sure.” Max said as he stood up and had Michelle free from the base of the car seat, and Deanna had Henry in her arms. The bags that they normally had for the school were also on the ground.“What’s going on?” Marie asked as she saw the pair and the expressions on their faces.“Someone tried to get to Deanna while we were at the school,” Max said flatly. “We have to
