Chapter 4

When I finally opened my eyes to brave the world again, I discovered that I’d slept through the night and into the evening of the following day.  Trauma could be a debilitating thing.

I wasn’t hungry, but I craved the taste of a fresh cup of coffee, so I slipped on a pair of sweat shorts and a tee shirt and headed downstairs.  I didn’t bother with panties, as I often went commando, and I decided against a bra, since it was dark out and I doubted that anyone would be in the kitchen at that hour.  Of course, the only person in the house that I needed to show a bit of modesty to was Evan and he barely came out of his little two room suite.

As I pulled my lightweight tee shirt over my breasts, I cupped one of them and lightly squeezed the nipple while memories of Peter doing just such a thing overwhelmed me.  I stayed like that for an undetermined amount of time until my senses returned to me and I shook him from my brain.

I quickly made my way to the coffee maker in the kitchen and fixed enough coffee for a few mugs. Then, I took my hot, aromatic beverage out onto the patio where I could sip on it while I looked up at the starlit sky.

The man in the moon snickered down at me as I stretched out onto a lounge chair with my coffee cradled in my hands.  Overwhelmed with a sense of sadness and betrayal that I just couldn’t shake, I began to tell myself that Peter was my first true relationship and, as such, the disappointment of discovering that I’d been taken for a ride would pack an extra powerful punch.  I gave myself a pep talk about what a valuable learning experience it was and how it would help me to use my head and make wiser choices in the future.

My brain listened, but my heart rebelled.  It longed for that loving feeling that always welled up in it at the mere thought of Peter.  Convincing it to abandon that desire wouldn’t be easy.

“It’s a beautiful night,” Evan said as he approached me from the darkness.  “Do you mind if I sit with you for a while?”

I’d assumed that Angela had clued him in to my misery and Peter’s deceit, but I made no mention of it as I smiled and pointed to a nearby chair.  Nor did he bring it up as he eased himself down into it.

“I’ve been out for a stroll,” he mused as he stretched his legs out in front of him and looked up at the sky.

“Did you have the streets to yourself?” I giggled.

“Wolf Junction is rather sleepy,” he said, “but, then, that’s one of its charms.”

“I’ve grown accustomed to it,” I admitted.  “I can’t imagine trying to live in a large metropolis anymore.    If we could attract a few more restaurants with quality cuisine, I’d call it a perfect place to live.”

“Your practice seems to be growing at a nice pace,” he observed. “Not that it’s any of my business.  It’s just that I’ve noticed a greater flow of patients during office hours.”

“I’m pleased with how it’s doing,” I said with a smile.  “I wasn’t sure it would happen when I first moved here and discovered what I’d rented.  These people are so superstitious.  Many of them refused to come here because it was a funeral home for so long.”

“What do you mean?  You didn’t know that you’d rented a funeral home?” Evan asked with surprise.

“I rented it sight unseen through a realtor,” I confessed.  “I didn’t think to ask what it was used for before.  I was just thrilled with the fact that I could escape the expense of an office because there was one in the house.”

“The ghosts don’t bother you?” he asked with all seriousness.

“Ghosts?” I said with genuine curiosity. “Evan, are you being bothered by ghosts?”

When he shrugged, I took a moment to really look at him. This was a first.  Since he’d become my boarder, I’d given him very little thought or attention.  I knew him to be a vampire like Peter and Angela and that he was good at his job of rounding up supernaturals who were a detriment to the safety and anonymity of other supernaturals.  He even had a van that he’d converted into an effective transport vehicle.

The moon’s brilliancy gave me an opportunity to take a good look at his face.  It wasn’t striking like Peter’s or Max’s, but it was well put together and could easily be called handsome.  His brows were straight and perfectly formed.  His eyes were narrow and deep set, but they seemed to be a good match for the eyebrows.  I immediately decided that his intensely deep blue eyes would have looked out of place if they were larger.  His nose was straight and just the right size for his face.  His lips were shaped nicely – not too thick or too thin- and they rested just below his nose with enough flesh above his chin to make his face be a perfect one for modeling.  His shoulders were broader than I remembered and, even with the dress shirt that he wore, I could see that his chest was rock hard with muscle.  The surprise that I felt when I realized Evan’s handsome sexiness overwhelmed me to the point that I gasped involuntarily.

“Is something wrong?” he asked as he pulled his legs back and sat straighter in his chair.

Embarrassed, I quickly assured him that all was well.  Then, to cover up my shame, I lied and told him that I’d just thought that I’d seen a bat.

“They keep the mosquitos at bay,” he said with a soothing voice.

“They eat mice too, don’t they?”

He looked thoughtful.  “They do, but not the ones in the United States.  They’re strictly bug and fruit eaters here.”

“No vampire bats, eh?” I teased.

When he flashed me a broad smile that displayed a beautiful set of perfect white teeth that accentuated the blueness of his eyes, I could feel my body heating up with surprise.   My eyes traced his face, then down his neck to his torso.  Like Max, he struck me as a man who frequented the gym.  - He very well might, for all that I knew about him. -  His frame was smaller than Max’s frame – Evan was an easy three inches shorter - but it was just as well proportioned.  Why hadn’t I noticed that before?

The feel of my nipples hardening in response to my body’s discovery that my boarder was a sexy hottie reminded me that I was wearing a flimsy tee shirt with no bra.  I quickly pulled my knees to my chest and rested my chin on them.

“I never was able to figure out where that damnable vampires turning into bats story came from,” he said, mindless of my nipple dilemma.

“Braham Stoker, I believe,” I mused as I sipped my cooled coffee.

“Bah,” he scowled.  “He plagiarized the story. I’m sure of it.  I just can’t seem to trace it back to its origin.  The more I dig, the deeper I go.  The legend goes back from before the time of Christ.”

“I had no idea,” I said with surprise.

“Very few do,” he sighed as he stood up and stretched his arms over his head.  “I think I’ll call it a night.”

“Sleep well,” I said as I watched him saunter into the house.

“Damn, he even has a swagger,” I said in a soft voice meant for my ears only.

“Who has a swagger?” Max asked as he walked onto the patio.

“I didn’t see your car lights,” I said as I jumped with surprise.

“It’s hard to see them unless I pull up to the side of the house.  I’m parked on the road.  There was a domestic complaint a few neighbors down from you that I had to tend to.  I could hear the faint sound of you and Peter talking, so I decided to pop in and say ‘hello’.”  He pointed to the chair that Evan just abandoned and eased himself into it when I nodded my approval.

Whether it was because Peter’s betrayal had sent me into a tailspin, or the discovery of just how hot and sexy Evan Ottenburg actually was and my hormones were now on the loose, or it was the fact that I’d been attracted to Max from the moment I set eyes on him, I don’t know.  Whatever the reason, the naughty switch inside of me turned on and I lowered my knees so that he could see my pert nipples straining against the thin fabric of my tee while I innocently pretended to be unaware of the situation.

“How’s your farmer friend?” I asked as I stretched my arms out wide to allow my breasts the opportunity to strain against the thin fabric of my shirt.  I didn’t need to look down to know that it molded around my protruding nipples and large mounds as I made a show of tucking the hem of it into the waist of my sweat shorts.  “He should come back to see me in a few days.”

Max swallowed hard as he averted his eyes from my main attraction.  “He’s in a lot of pain.  Plus, he’s scared shitless.  I was hoping to capture one of those damned things so that you could study it.”

“Me?” I asked, forgetting about my sudden desire to tease and arouse him as I focused on the topic. “Why me?”

“You said that you wanted to find a cure for zombism,” he explained.  “While I’d like to see that happen, I think the werewolf crisis is more important.  If you can find a cure, then we could nip it in the bud.”

“Why not just call in some vampires?  Don’t they keep them under control?” I asked with innocence.

He chuckled at my naivety.  “You put far too much credence in the capabilities of the vampire, my beautiful doctor.”  My body reacted to the throaty way that he called me beautiful, but I made no indication of it as I sat still and waited for him to explain what he meant. “Vampires are stronger than humans, but they remain in human form.  The werewolf becomes an animal.  When the moon is full, he’s a challenge even for the strength of a vampire.  The vampire’s best bet is to battle them when the moon isn’t full.”

I set my coffee mug onto the small table next to me, swung my feet to the side of the lounge chair, and stretched my legs out in front of me.  I gripped the edge of the seat on either side of me as I got more involved with the conversation; oblivious to the fact that, by doing so, it pushed my full breasts and protruding nipples forward.

“I thought you didn’t know much about werewolves?” I said in a thoughtful tone.

“That was two days ago. I’ve been studying since then,” he said as he openly ogled my unbridled, abundant breasts.

Still engrossed in the werewolf topic, his growing lust slipped right past me.  “I wonder how many other supernatural creatures from fairy tales are actually real.  We could spend the rest of our lives searching for cures for them all.”

“Well, let’s focus on the werewolf one for now, shall we?” he said as he stood up.

I followed his example and stood too.  Before I realized what was happening, he had me in an embrace and was kissing me with a deep passion that I needed at that moment.  I felt that being with another man was the only thing that would push Peter and his lies from my heart.  Since I’d been playing the cat and mouse attraction game with Max from day one of our friendship – he’d even suckled my breast while he had his finger inside my womanhood while lying next to a corpse on the roadside - what better man to push thoughts of Peter from my mind?  If not my heart.

Here we were on my back patio.  Him still in his uniform and me barely clad.  Both of us mindless of the world around us as we frantically explored each other’s bodies with our hands.  His large hand did its best to cup my breast.   He hefted it as if to inspect it by weight and size before his thumb found my nipple and pressed firmly.  A moan escaped from somewhere deep in his throat as his tongue continued to search for my tonsils that had long been surgically removed.

When I could stand the desire for more no longer, I took my hands and guided his head to my breast.  He suckled my nipple through the thin fabric until I lifted my tee shirt to expose it.  His knees buckled for a moment before he regained control and latched onto my nipple with a need that we both felt.

I arched my back to assist him since he was at least six inches taller than me.  I could feel my knees growing weak as his free hand pulled my tee shirt off me and tossed it onto the ground before it slid beneath the waistband of my sweat shorts and his thick, strong finger began to tease me into a frenzy.

If I hadn’t been so overwhelmed by the need to be taken by him, I would have been shocked by the display of flexibility and strength that he showed as he slid my sweat shorts off my body with one smooth motion while his own pants dropped to the ground.  All the while, his lips never stopped the attention they were giving my needy nipples.

When he picked me up and lowered me onto his extremely large erection, I moaned with both surprise and relief.  My breasts were at the right height for him to continue working them with his mouth as he thrust himself into me with an ease of rhythm and power that I didn’t know possible.  Their abundance required that I lean back a bit, but he held firm with his powerful arms, so I felt safe in doing so.  I dug my nails into his back as I held on for the ride of my life.  Within minutes, I was softly crying out as I released a built-up pleasure that surprised me.

His stamina matched my greedy need and we continued to couple like wild beasts in the night until we’d both floated amongst the stars on several occasions.  When he finally released my reddened nipples and lowered me to the ground, my knees were weak from the exertion and I had to hold onto him for a few moments while my final climax subsided.
