Chapter 3

In the dimly lit room, Elizabeth laid peacefully on Greg's chest. Her thoughts were occupied by the image of Megan getting into that sleek Rolls-Royce.

Her eyes flickered, with uncertainty and insecurity. Could it be that Megan was just lucky, or there was something more? She moved uncomfortably on Greg's body before she spoke out.

“Greg, do you think Megan has another man?” Her eyebrows raised, giving an impression of her obliviousness.

“Why?” He asked, pretending to be indifferent, but deep down he wanted to know more.

“I saw her get into a Rolls-Royce after she had signed the divorce papers”.

He wanted to laugh at Elizabeth's face, but he didn't. He knew well enough that Megan didn't know anyone, and neither did she socialise with people during their five years of marriage.

“Megan doesn't know or has anyone of such, it's probably a taxi. After all, most taxi these days use good cars”.

“I am scared, babe, Elizabeth's lips trembled pretentiously. What if we get caught. What if she isn't who she pretends to be, and I get sent to jail”. She feigned helplessness.

He stopped her from talking further by placing his hands on her plump lips. “You are just overthinking. Everything has been planned and by now Meg will be met with her misery”. A scornful smirk appeared on his face.

He had made sure to plan everything, leaving no traces behind and Megan could never suspect him as he even pretended to be hurt by her departure.

“I won't allow you and the baby to get hurt”. He said to Elizabeth. She felt tingles of satisfaction grow in her tummy.

Greg's phone suddenly rang and on picking it up the voice of a man resonated at the other side. “It's done”.

“Good, I will send in payments”, Greg replied with Great elation.

“It's done babe”. He said to Elizabeth, whose eyes widened in happiness. Greg is the heir to the Wilson family; she didn't believe that a poor girl with no background will willingly leave a cash cow like Greg, so only after Megan is destroyed would she be at ease.

Meanwhile at the police station.

A middle-aged police officer, Gabby, knelt down with tears almost streaming down his cheeks. His voice choked with desperation as he begged young master Enzo.

“It was a mistake, we didn't know she is young Miss Margaret song”. He couldn't explain how horrified he was when he saw that the person being arrested was Megan.

Enzo had a disappointing and scary look. The atmosphere around him made every other police officer shiver in cold sweat.

Officer Gabby knew well enough that he only came to the police station to end their lives, since he could simply make a phone call to avert the arrest.

“How dare you”? Enzo roared menacingly.

How could Greg do this to him, he never mentioned that the scapegoat was not an ordinary person, officer Gabby thought to himself?

“I just want to know one thing”. Megan finally interjected after a long while of silence.

“Who sent you?”

“It's nothing, it's just a silly mistake”. The chief officer said, laughing nervously.

“I give you five seconds to give me a direct answer”. Meg stepped forward, her eyes ablaze with righteous fury.

Silence consumed the office, and officer Gabby was left in a state of dilemma. He once heard that the heiress of the Song family is heartless and cold. Could he risk his life just for a cheap penny?

“Didn't you hear her?” Enzo yelled dangerously.

“I… I….he stammered. He felt his gut wrench as Enzo snapped his fingers. And before you know it. Hefty, dangerous men walked in.

“I will speak, I will speak”. He could feel his own ragged breathing as he pleaded silently.

“Speak”. Enzo's rigid voice vibrated.

“Mrs. Megan is innocent, we were sent to frame her for the murder of Mr. Richard stones in return for a juicy reward”.

Richard, isn't that Elizabeth’s ex fiancée. Who sent you? Megan asked impatiently. Although she had a rough idea of who was actually behind it.

“Mr. Greg Wilson. The officer said in difficulty. I heard he was rewarded with a million dollars by Miss Elizabeth's father just to get a scapegoat”.

Megan scoffed mockingly, she actually thought only Elizabeth was involved. However, even Greg was in this together.

One million dollars and he sells her to be a scapegoat for his true love. How cheap. It's actually funny how many years of marriage turned out to be the biggest joke ever.

“One million dollars”, she mumbled unbelievably. No way! Even the doormat of her family cost more than that. She felt her anger slowly brewing within her.

Greg took her as a joke, now she is provoked, she will let them know who she truly is, the daughter of the most influential family.

“Get him”, Enzo ordered his guards at officer Gabby, who was sweating profusely.

His eyes widened and flashes with trepidation as the hefty men came towards him.

“Stop, a female voice stopped them, it was Megan's. Let him be, brother”. She smirked.

“I would be needing his help”, she faced officer Gabby.

“Anything for you ma'am, please…just…don't kill me, he said courteously”.

“Didn't Greg want you to arrest me?”

“Yes ma'am”. He nodded aggressively.

“Then go ahead”, she brought forth her hands, making Enzo burst out.

“What the hell are you thinking?” he asked Megan, who kept smiling.

“Evidence, " she mumbled. Take a picture of me getting arrested and send it to him. Nothing is as painful as your plans crumbling right in front of you, without you even noticing”.

“Tomorrow, my divorce will be finalised. How about a little surprise for my ex-husband”? She seethed with a grin.

“I will do anything as long as you spare my life”, the officer said desperately.

Enzo’s car drove into the song's mansion, which was their resident house in New York.

The car stopped in the middle of the red carpet that was laid at the front entrance and in the centre stood Megan's second brother Loyd. He opened the car door.

“Welcome home princess”. His gruff voice echoed loudly.

They all entered into the mansion and Megan was mesmerised by the intricate designs. The house didn't really change much. Her father's love for art was evident as different varieties and collections were hung on the walls.

The one that really caught her attention was a piece showcasing a woman. Her face was a canvas of conflicting feelings, each brushstroke capturing the complexity of human experience. She loved it because she could relate.

“Who dared arrest my little sister”, Loyd questioned in rage, he had heard about what happened and how Greg had betrayed Megan and wanted to use her as a scapegoat.

“I swear I will end them All, that fool Greg's life would end in front of his eyes. I will call our cousin in the military to attack now”. He yelled as he attempted to take his phone.

“No brother”, she stopped him, she knew how crazy and ruthless Loyd could be.

“Please just let me handle this”, she held his hands gently and on that spot Loyd felt his heart soften. He looked at Enzo, who was just observing.

“Don't be a monster, Loyd, let her handle this”. He said calmly.

“Where is dad”. Megan interrupted.

“Dad… Don't worry about him, let's have a sumptuous meal to celebrate your birthday and your return”. Enzo said.

“Happy birthday princess”. They both screamed while clinking their glasses together.

The next day in city hall, Greg, in his well tailored suit, sat across from the lawyer who is meant to finalise their divorce.

“Sir, isn't the madam going to be here, we need both of you here to finalise the divorce”.

“Just go ahead and do it without her, she won't be coming”. Greg said, boringly and confidently.

The lawyer was quite perplexed, but he didn't have a choice. Mr. Greg has been good to him and was a powerful individual who is not to be messed with.

“Okay, I will go ahead with it”. He said, as he brought out some documents to be signed.

The clanking of shoes starts to echo against the marble floor, making Greg's face move towards the distraction.

His heart beat skyrocketed and his lips trembled. Megan was right in front of him, looking magnificent in her fitted red gown and light makeup. But that wasn't the problem here.

The question was, how is she here? Officer Gabby had called saying the job was done and had sent a photo of Megan getting arrested.

“How did you…. His words hung in his throats.

Megan brightly and Evilly smiled.

“Did I just hear you say, I wasn't coming”. Her lips puzzled.
