Chapter Six

Rock

She believes she's being clever by inviting Brody and Jessica to eat with her, but she won't be able to take my friends or family away from me. She will always be nothing more than the water girl. Earlier today, I felt sorry for her when she got covered in food, but that won't happen again.

"Hey water girl, can you get us something to drink?" I turn around and taunt River, enjoying the satisfaction of seeing her tense up.

"I'm off the clock, jerk," she whispers back at me.

"Oh, someone has grown a backbone since hanging out with Brody," I remark. It seems like I'll have to teach her a few lessons.

"Dude, come on, man, leave her alone tonight. Let her eat her food in peace," Brody intervenes, and that angers me.

I don't think I want my football buddy hanging out with my soon-to-be sister anymore. He seems to forget where his loyalty lies. But I'll deal with that another time.
