“Mr. and Mrs. Ortiz, Mr. Brooks,” Daniela one of the wait staff interrupts. She is Thierry’s best female warrior. “I’m sorry to interrupt but we can hear what’s going on and we thought you should know that there has been a lone wolf in the area. He’s a second year college student and has visited the restaurant regularly these past two years. He doesn’t seem dangerous but he has taken an interest in Davina. His name is Enzo Black.”
“Keep an eye on him. I don’t think it’s a coincidence a lone wolf has been hanging around and has yet to ask to join the pack. I don’t want to scare Davina but she needs to stay away from him and we will need to proceed with caution. There are rogue warlocks out there helping the wolves so we need to be prepared,” Thierry ordered his wolf. He then sends out a text.
“Yes sir,” replied Daniela, “I’ll inform the rest of the staff and head out with Mark.” She turns and heads back inside the restaurant.
“I texted Mark about this Enzo Black. I’ll get a background run on him,” says Thierry. I can’t believe the time we feared is upon us and the more Davina’s powers are released from the seal the more danger she will be in. I promised Lux and Celestia I would protect her with my life and I plan to do that if necessary. If something does happen to me and Isla I will need to ensure there are others ready and willing to protect my daughter.
“Gabriel, should something happen to me and Isla please watch over Davina for us. I pray it doesn’t come to that but we need to prepare to continue to protect her with someone she’ll trust for when we need to tell her,” I ask my brother.
“Of course brother. She is my niece no matter her birth. I will sell my place in New York and I can move closer if I have to. I’ll buy a condo and help around the restaurant. You could use an accountant anyway if Davina is going to be busy with her college courses,” he laughs trying to lighten the mood.
“I’m not that bad. Right Isla,” I turn to my wife and ask. Isla grins trying not to make eye contact with me.
“Sorry Daniel,” she laughs. “You’re not the greatest with numbers.”
Thierry laughs, “After all these years you still can keep your books in check?”
We all laugh. They are right, I am hopeless with numbers. If it weren’t for Davina double checking my work we’d probably be in trouble. It would be easier if I could just use my magic but I don’t want to get caught or draw attention to my family. That would be hard to explain to Davina.
Davina
I can’t believe my parents actually got me a car. I decide to drive to the nearby lake. I love it there, it has a beautiful waterfall and a good trail that goes all the way around the lake. I park and decide to put soft top down on the Jeep and enjoy the sunshine. I scoot my seat back as far as it’ll go and lean it back. It’s so peaceful and I love the sound of the water. Too bad I can’t swim in it. Well I mean I could but there have been reported sights of alligators and I don’t wanna risk it. I get out my book and decide to read.
“That must be a good book.” I jump at the sound of the voice and look to my right. Enzo is standing at my door and he’s laughing.
“Enzo, you startled me.”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I haven’t seen you out here before. I come here often when I need a break from my studies.” He is even more handsome with the sun shining down on his black hair.
“I typically can’t come out here unless I get a ride from someone. But I have a car now so I may come out here more often.”
“Lucky me then, mind if I join you?”
“Ummm…my father wouldn’t like me hanging out with a boy, much less one who is much older than me.”
“I won’t tell. We’re just hanging out. I’ve been coming around the restaurant for the last two years. You can trust me.” I look around nervously. I’d hate to see anyone I know see me with a boy in the Jeep and go tell my parents. They would kill me. It seems pretty deserted right now and I really don’t want him to go.
“Okay.” Enzo opens the passenger door and gets in.
“What are you reading?”
“The Last Wish. Again.” He looks at me with an eyebrow raised.
“It must be good if you’re reading it again,” he chuckles. “I’ve never heard of it.”
“What? Then you are missing out. You should really give it a try and then check out the tv show.”
“I’ll have to give it a try then if you like it so much.” He smiles at me and I smile back. “You mind if I study while you read?” I am a bit confused as to why he wants to study. He said he comes out here to take a break from his studies, but I don’t question it. Maybe he changed his mind.
“Sure.” I go back to reading my book, though I am really reading and have probably attempted to read these same paragraph for the last half hour. Enzo is working on some math and appears very absorbed into what he is doing. I try to concentrate on the book but it’s hard with him so close in proximity. I finally get past the paragraph I have read like twenty times though I am not sure how much time has passed when another car parks beside me and honks. I look over and see a black Ford F-150. It looks like Mark’s truck. I see a red Gamecocks sticker on the back window. Shit, it is Mark’s truck. The window rolls down to reveal Daniela and Mark. Shit. I’m dead.
“Hey Davina,” Daniela says waving at me with a smile. I quietly groan, can’t hide. They already saw me. I’m so dead.
“Hey Daniela, whatcha guys doing here?” Please don’t recognize Enzo.
“Mark picked me up from work and wanted to take me out on a picnic. It’s such a beautiful day we decided to drive out here. Hey Enzo, I didn’t know you came here.” Damn it, she recognizes him. I’m definitely dead.
“Hey,” he replies almost as if he is irritated. “I should go Davina. Thanks for letting me hang out.” He gets out of my Jeep and heads to his car.
“Anytime, I’ll see you around.” He gets in, slams his door shut and takes off. We all watch him drive away in his black car. I wonder what is problem is.
“What was Enzo doing here,” asks Mark. I guess Daniela has told him everything. I’m going to have to talk to her about that.
“He said he likes to come out here to take a break from his studies,” I reply all nonchalant. Let it go Mark, let it go.
“And yet he was studying rather than taking a break,” says Mark. I didn’t see an issue with that. So what, he decided to study for a bit. That doesn’t mean anything. Daniela looks at Mark from the corner of her eye and then quickly changes the subject.
“So, your parents finally got you a car huh. It looks nice. You’ve always wanted a Jeep.”
“My parents actually bought it off Mark’s dad. I guess I told him how much I liked his Jeep so much he decided to sell.” Mark is still staring at the direction Enzo took off before he finally says something.
“He wanted a new car anyway. I swear my dad has like ten cars.” I know Mark’s dad is rich but I didn’t realize he is that rich. I wonder what he does for work. I have no idea what kind of company he has.
“Ummm…Mark? I would appreciate it if you don’t tell my dad I had Enzo in the Jeep. He will flip and we were just hanging out that’s all.” I hope he is willing to keep my secret.
“Just don’t do it again. I don’t trust the dude. I’ll kick his ass if he ends up hurting you.” I nervously giggle. What’s up with everyone judging Enzo when no one knows him. He keeps to himself and hardly talks to anyone. He has never caused problems at the restaurant so I don’t see what the issue is.
“I’ll be sure to let you know if he steps out of line, thanks Mark. I better get home. See ya later.” I then put my seat back so I can reach the peddles before starting my car. That was an awkward conversation. Seriously what is everyone’s deal?
Mark
I don’t like Enzo he gives me the creeps and I highly doubt it’s a coincidence he is here. It was all too convenient for Davina to be at the lake at the same time as him. Something smells off. I’ll have to talk to dad about having Carter running a background check on him if he isn’t already. Normally lone wolfs seek out a pack to join or at least hang out with other rogues. Yet he has not once attempted to join our pack let alone speak to my father and we haven’t seen him hanging around other wolves, just humans at the college. It’s not normal for us to want to be alone.
“I better call my dad, there is something fishy with Enzo.”
“I agree, he seemed too irritated that we showed up. He’s up to something,” says Daniela. I take out my phone and call my father.
“Hey dad.”
“What’s up Mark.”
“We followed Davina to the lake. We were just watching her from afar until Enzo Black showed up.”
“That is not a coincidence. Is he gone?”
“Yeah he left very irritated when we decided to park next to her. I felt like I had to intervene. I can’t explain it but it felt like he was planning something with the looks he was giving her. Davina has just left as well.” I can tell dad is very worried. We don’t know anything about Enzo and he’s getting too close to Davina. She isn’t even sixteen yet so why is he so interested in someone so much younger than him. Like I said, fishy.
“Okay, You did good intervening. You have good instincts Mark, don’t question yourself. Follow Davina and ensure she is going home, then come back to the estate. I’m going to have a meeting with the elders and want you and your siblings present.” I groan. I am so glad I am not the next alpha of the pack. I dread these meetings.
“Consider it done, I’ll see you in a few.” I hang up the phone and start the truck. “We’re gonna follow Davina and ensure she is going home.”
“Okay, what’s going on. You’re pouting over there?”
“I am not,” I reply and she raises an eyebrow at me. I can’t help but laugh. I really hope she turns out to be my mate. I’m already in love with her. “My dad is holding a meeting with the elders and wants me, Keila and Derek present. This should be interesting. The elders get so annoying sometimes.” Daniela scrunches her nose at me. She’s not a fan of meetings either. She prefers to take action.
“I love you Mark but I’m definitely going to skip out on that if your father doesn’t need me there.” I laugh, I don’t blame her.
“Lucky,” I pretend to pout. She laughs at me and gives me a kiss. I put the car in reverse to catch up to Davina. She appears to be heading home but I follow her the whole way just to be sure. She has parked in her driveway and heads inside her home. I text dad letting him know Davina is home and I start heading home.
Thierry I have watched Davina grow up throughout the years and have been around her whole life. She considers me somewhat of an uncle and I consider her my niece. I have wolves surrounding her should something go wrong. Some of my best warriors work at the Ortiz restaurant. I have even placed wolves at the university as professors, students or even security guards. The Smith twins, Daniel and Daniela, are my best and most fierce warriors. If someone took on one of the twins they wouldn’t stand a chance but together those two are deadly. Only my son Mark could only best them if they don’t fight together, though I have caught him letting Daniela win. I am happy for my son. I do hope Daniela turns out to me his mate. The night we lost Davina’s parents still haunts me. Probably always will. I failed in protecting them but I would not fail their daughter. I insisted they flee but Lux was too proud to run and wanted to ensure everyone else was evacuated before leaving himself. Celestia ref
“Calista you know you don’t have to knock,” I say with a smile on my face. Seeing her always relaxes me. She is my sunshine in the the middle of the storm. Her parent’s picked the perfect name because it means most beautiful and that she certainly is. Calista enters the room with that gorgeous smile on her face. She has the most beautiful blonde hair that reaches her waist and the most vibrant blue eyes that Mark and Keila inherited. Derek got stuck with my features poor boy. “You know you tell me that every time and every time I tell you I’ll still going to knock,” she laughs. “How did it go?” She moves towards me and I reach out my hand for hers pulling her onto my lap so I can inhale her intoxicating scent. “Davina’s powers are manifesting sooner than we expected. The seal is wearing off and there is nothing the warlocks can do to stop it. She’s too powerful,” I inform her. “We knew this day was going to come. I was hoping we would have more time to allow Derek be a kid longer b
I text Jason informing him of where our sons were at and that they will be arriving at my estate with half an hour. Jason replied he will be over shortly. I may be teaching both boys about the history of the silver dragons. I know Derek is close with Owen and I am not sure if Owen will end up the new beta or the second gamma. So Owen needs to know this history as well. Mark is already well informed. He paid close attention to the dragon history as he had a bit of a crush on Davina but when he met her for the first time he became attached to Daniela instead. They are close to eighteen and though their wolves can’t sense it yet they seem drawn to each other. It was clear Davina was not fated to be mated with Mark so he let it go. I am sure he will end up mated to Daniela one of the best female warriors. I’m happy for him. I know how much he would like a family of his own. I hear a car pull up to the driveway. Jason has arrived. I immediately pull the door open and greet him. “Thanks f
Derek Dad is really mad this time. He normally wouldn’t scold me for drinking but I never did stay out all night. I know I am going to hear it from mom later too. She may even start crying. Dad and I had a deal that I would start alpha training after I had been in college for two years. This way I could still take classes but be on a lighter schedule as I would have my prerequisites finished. Now it seems college is completely off the table. I trudge my way upstairs to my bedroom to shower. Owen went to a guest bathroom to shower himself and I lent him some clothes. I quickly shower, not wanting to make my father angrier than he already is, and head downstairs and brush my teeth. Owen beat me to my father’s office. I don’t blame him for trying to be quicker. He is in double trouble since he mated with my sister. The thought of that made me laugh to myself. “So why the hell did you not tell me you mated with my sister? You had all night to say something. That’s awesome man, now we’re
“Why we so spread out,” I ask. “This is due to humans hunting shifters. Eventually we were reduced to myth and humans began mistaking us for animals that kill their livestock, and it was thought it’d be best to be apart to be less conspicuous. We have to be careful where we transform and be discreet. It would be hard to explain why there are lion or jaguar sightings in the United States. Which is why I tell you to stay within our territory. I don’t want any of our wolves shot. Anyway, back to the dragons. Ryuu and Kaida were so devastated at the loss of their child that Ryuu created the dragon realm. Ryuu moved all the dragons to their own realm where they could be safe and live their lives in peace, away from the humans. He also allowed mythical creatures like the kitsunes, phoenix, and the winged white tiger into the realm. However, creating this realm exhausted Ryuu of his powers. He didn’t exactly die, more like his body died but his soul rose to the spiritual world, the moon, w
“Hey Enzo and hello their beautiful,” says the mysterious boy, winking at me. “You didn’t tell me your friend is very pretty Miranda.” “Umm, hi” I manage to get out. “Are you eating as well,” I ask. He tugs the corner of his lip into a smile as he is eyeing me. I all of a sudden feel very self conscious of my body. “If you’re serving I’ll definitely be eating. What is your name beautiful,” he asks. “My name is Davina. Do you need a menu,” I ask trying not blush. “I’ll have what ever Enzo is having,” he says with a smile. “Jack don’t be rude,” says Miranda. “Davina this is my cousin Jack. Ignore him, he can be such a flirt.” “You neglected to tell me how gorgeous your friend is Miranda,” says Jack while staring at me. “You said that already Jack,” says Miranda rolling her eyes. “Davina I’ll have the usual,” Enzo says laughing at his friend. “Me too,” says Miranda. “Coming right up,” I reply. I am blushing and quickly walk away to hide it. The moment I bring the new ticke
Daniel The boy seems human. There is nothing the wolves, nor my wife and I, can detect to make us believe he is an enemy. I knew this day would come and we would have to let her go out, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. She is my little girl. Isla stayed at the restaurant so that one of us could at least be present when Jack picks up Davina. Isla thought it would be best if it were me. Someone had to take his keys from him. I am going to definitely go through this kid’s car and see if there is anything I can learn about him. I text Thierry and let him know what is happening tonight, he won’t be happy about it though. He assigns two wolves to follow Davina. Thierry texts he will have his investigator, Carter, dig up information on Jack as well and email it to me. Given that Jack is related to Miranda I am trying to convince myself everything is fine. We did a background check on her as well and she and her family came back clean. Davina and Miranda have been good friends for t
“Finding anything incriminating,” she laughs. “Nope, he appears to be clean just like his cousin. The wolves found nothing in his record of concern and nothing in his car is of concern either,” I inform her. “Good. Davina needs to have some fun and go out. I’m glad she’s super smart and does well in school but she has been missing out on being a teenager. Besides we’ve never had any concerns about Miranda. For a human she has a good head on her shoulders. Maybe that has rubbed off from her cousin. He seems responsible and quite smart,” says Isla. She is right. Being that Jack had fast tracked like Davina and has been already attended college did give me a feeling like he is a responsible young man. “I know you’re right. I’m just worried about her seal and us failing her by allowing the wrong person around Davina,. We can’t lose her too,” I reply. “I know Daniel. Me too.” We then go back inside and I try distracting myself by watching tv. I flip through the channels before settli
