Maddie's words lingered as I stepped into my office, the door closing with a heavy thud. The room felt oppressive, like it was closing in on me.

Carefully, I moved across the floor to my desk and opened a drawer, greeted by the familiar smell of old wood and paper. Inside, I found a crystal decanter, its contents shining in the dim light. Everything seemed fuzzy, and I couldn't shake the feeling of confusion and worry. The alcohol seemed inviting to calm my nerves.
