Chapter 6 A Fracture In the Military Training

Two hours later, Fang Qiu ended his session.

Practicing for two hours had increased his power.

He walked on the waves and left Central Lake.

Once Fang Qiu was back in the dormitory, he woke up his three roommates and saw three tired faces.

Fang Qiu said, "Everyone: people go to bed at night and get up in the morning during the three months in summer. Five o'clock corresponds to Insects Awakening on the twenty-four solar calendar. It's the time for the generation of Yang Qi and the rebirth of all things. Not getting up at this time will strangle your Yang Qi and injure your kidney. Hurry up! We learn Chinese Medicine in order to practice it!"

At the possibility of a kidney injury, the three boys jumped up immediately.

While putting on clothes, the third oldest, Sun Hao, grumbled. "We have not yet started learning."

"Our kidneys are safe because of you," The fourth oldest Zhou Xiaotian said.

After washing themselves and eating breakfast, all four of them arrived at the playground for military training.

There were only three days to finish military training. It was torture for others but a piece of cake for Fang Qiu.

After breakfast, Chen Cong also came to the playground. After seeing Fang Qiu, he walked right up to him. "Fang Qiu!" Chen Cong shouted as he came up to Fang Qiu.

Fang Qiu looked to Chen Cong.

He knew Chen Cong’s purpose. Chen Cong wasn’t a fool. He would have guessed it after he saw Fang Qiu disappear mysteriously.

"Yes?"

"A contest sometime?”

Chen Cong studied Fang Qiu's face, trying to find anything that would confirm what he suspected.

"Not interested," said Fang Qiu.

"Don't refuse so quickly. Just trying to compare notes. We’ll stop in time." Chen Cong added.

"Still not interested," said Fang Qiu.

Chen Cong became silent because he did not expect Fang Qiu to refused him. In Chen Cong’s mind, if Fang Qiu was a kung fu practitioner, he should be violent and would accept any challenge.

Could it be said that he was wrong?

He stared into Fang Qiu's eyes and asked, "How did you suddenly disappear this morning? I was looking for you, but I didn't find you."

"Well, I went back to my dorm to sleep," said Fang Qiu.

Chen Cong still wanted to ask more questions, but at this moment, the drill master came and he whistled for everyone to line up.

Chen Cong gave up and got into formation.

He would look for another opportunity to test whether Fang Qiu was a kung fu practitioner or not.

How could Chen Cong leave Fang Qiu be now that he had finally found someone to practice with?

"Everyone! Look to the right! Look ahead!”

The drill master shouted. All the people in the line turned their heads neatly.

"Attention!

"At ease!

"Good! I want to tell everybody that goose-stepping practice will start today. First three platoons squat down! I will demonstrate to everybody the standard movement. Look carefully!"

The drill master quickly finished the demonstration and let everyone start training.

Although it rained all day yesterday, there was no coolness in the air today.

It was summer, and the sun was shining fiercely. All the platoons from class three were separated by about one meter. They stood still with their right arms in front of their chests and left legs raised up.

This was one of the most tiring activities in military training.

Feet had to be raised with toes taut and straight. Also, feet had to stay ten inches from the ground and could not move at all.

Just a minute later, all the students in class three couldn't stand it anymore. Either their bodies or legs began to move.

Some even let their legs fall to the ground before lifting them up in a hurry because the pain was too much.

Only Fang Qiu and Chen Cong stood still. Their rigidity was so perfect that even the drill master, Gao Hu, looked at them with approval.

The commander wanted to recruit soldiers and had told every drill master to look out for potential candidates.

Before this summer, the drill master had thought that freshmen could not be good candidates. But after the last few days, he found that these two people were good candidates. Their strength was unusually high, even higher than his.

Chen Cong was big and tall with taut muscles. He was not surprised that Chen Cong was so strong.

But it was really surprising that Fang Qiu, who looked delicate, had such power!

The drill master, Gao Hu, could not help smiling as he looked at these two people. He wanted to test how strong these two people really were.

Usually, nobody could last for even a minute before resting their legs. But right now, he did not issue the command to change legs because he wanted to see how long these two could last.

Another minute passed.

The two of them did not move at all.

At this point, the others in the class could not raise their legs anymore. They all were resting their feet on the ground.

Everyone now noticed Fang Qiu and Chen Cong. They could not help admiring these two people. They were still standing straight and their legs and face did not shake at all.

"Freaking awesome!"

All of them turned, with their legs down, to watch the two and found that the drill master didn't bother them at all.

Chen Cong was using all his strength to compete with Fang Qiu, but four minutes was close to his limit.

He figured Fang Qiu was done too.

After thirty seconds, Chen Cong's raised leg began to shake violently.

He took a look at Fang Qiu who stood still like a sculpture and could not help feeling frustrated.

Gao Hu also noticed that Chen Cong was at his limit. He was surprised because Chen Cong had not specifically practiced for this activity. So it was impressive that he had lasted until now.

But it was Fang Qiu who impressed him most.

This guy had been taking it easy since the start.

And still.

As if that wasn’t his leg!

Gao Hu sighed. Fang Qiu was beating his favorite student, Chen Cong.

The other students in the class also noticed that Chen Cong wasn’t going to last another minute. They were surprised that Fang Qiu was beating the bigger Chen Cong. It was well known that Chen Cong knew kung fu, so they expected him to win.

Zhu Benzheng, Sun Hao, Zhou Xiaotian sighed.

Bigger! The shadow was bigger yet again!

Gao Hu figured it would not make any sense to continue and commanded: "Two! Change legs!"

Everyone took a step forward quickly with their left legs down and right legs up.

The movements of the other students were very haphazard. Only Fang Qiu took a crisp step forward with his right hand down and left arm up in front of his chest, and at the same time, raised his right leg.

The action was firm and smooth.

Seeing this, even the drill master had to praise him.

After the morning training, everyone had lunch and took a short break.

In the afternoon the training continued.

Everyone was sweating under the hot sun.

Only Fang Qiu looked calm.

At 3 p.m., class three, which Fang Qiu belonged to, continued training. Meanwhile, in another class, someone suddenly fell to the ground, holding their feet and screaming in pain.

Although Fang Qiu was far away, he could still see that the student's face was pale.

It didn't look like a simple injury.

Gao Hu let the students rest and quickly ran to another class for help.

The medical staff from the medical center came quickly.

But it seemed to be of no use.

As Fang Qiu drank water, he looked to the distant class and saw that someone had dialed 911.

The fallen student was carried to the shade by the others.

The student's right shoe and sock had been taken off. As they carried him past Fang Qiu's class, Fang Qiu looked at the student's right foot.

No obvious trauma yet the foot was extremely painful...

Fang Qiu thought of all the symptoms of fractures that he had read about in the modern orthopedic book last night. Which one—

Fatigue fracture!

This kind of fracture was mostly caused by long-term non-physiological stress of the skeletal system and was more likely to occur in the tibia, metatarsal, and radius. And most importantly, it had a high incidence during military training.

He had a sudden impulse to see if he was right.

Although he was now in the bonesetting Controlling Realm, to improve to the Friendly Realm, he needed to practice more.

Therefore, if he wanted to improve, he had to seize every opportunity.

At this time, Gao Hu came over, whistling for a gathering.

When everyone stood in line again, Gao Hu commanded. "Let's continue."

"Sir!"

The drill master Gao Hu looked at Fang Qiu: "Go ahead!"

It was the first time hearing Fang Qiu saying "Sir" during military training.

Others yelled "Sir" when they were dizzy or tired. But not this guy!

The drill master was curious.

"I want to see that student," said Fang Qiu in a loud voice.

The drill master and the whole class were dazed for a second.

They did not understand why Fang Qiu had made this request.

"Your classmate? Or your friend?" asked the drill master.

"Neither, sir! I know some medical knowledge and I want to help the student!" Fang Qiu replied.

The whole class was shocked.

Before they were admitted to Jiangjing University of Chinese Medicine, they all didn’t know much about Chinese Medicine. Now someone just said that he knew some medical knowledge and wanted to have a look? Was he that good?

Gao Hu glanced at Fang Qiu doubtfully. Although this request was a little strange, he agreed.

"Is five minutes enough?"

"Sir! It's enough!"

"Good! Fall out!"

Fang Qiu trotted to the shade where the injured student was.

Apart from the students, only their drill master and two medical staff stood next to him.

Fang Qiu came up to the drill master, gave a standard salute and then told a white lie, "Sir! I am following my drill master's order to see this student!"

If he had not lied, he would have been driven away and would not have had a chance to get close to the injured student.

The drill master didn’t think. He agreed to Fang Qiu's help.

Fang Qiu immediately came to the student, picked up his feet and asked, "Where’s the pain?"

The student pointed at the top of his big toe with a bitter face.

Metatarsus!

This was where a fatigue fracture was most likely to occur.

Fang Qiu attached his left hand directly to the student's instep while holding one side of the big toe and the sole of the foot by his right hand.

Slowly, a faint picture of the bone structure appeared in his mind.
