Chapter 4 A Good Sleep

"Stop!" The moment his voice rang, her eyes went open instantly. He was already standing and his cigarette was no longer in his hands. "Get dressed and leave" he gave her a disgusting look before entering a door which was leading to his bathroom.

Valerie picked up the skimpy dress from the floor, she put it on then exited the room as asked. She didn't know where to go but luckily the place was wide enough so she managed to find an empty spot. She moved over and squatted on the floor while trying to cover herself with her arms.

Then everything came rushing back to her, she stood naked in front of that man and he touched her in places that weren't meant to be touched by anyone. He touched her breast and private part and almost allowed her to use a vibrator on herself.

She hated him so damn much right now, she was trying her best not to break down in tears for the sake of that man.

"Hey, why are you there? You might catch a cold" a familiar voice sounded. Valerie looked up to see Haunter and she covered herself even more.

Haunter was dressed in a thick jacket that was as similar to a coat and a male baggy jeans with this thick boot, he sighed and took off his thick jacket then handed it over to her since he saw that she didn't look comfortable with what she had on. "Cover yourself up with this and come with me"

Valerie kept looking at his face, he looked harmless but can she trust him? What if he had an interior motive? But she needed the jacket so she would accept it.

Her gaze moved from his face to the jacket and she slowly lifted one of her arms up to take it then like a flash, she put it on which made Haunter smile.

"Come with me" he said softly before leaving.

Valerie stood up and slowly followed him. She still didn't trust him but at least he was not slapping or kicking her like the others. They stood in front of a door, Haunter opened it and made way for her.

"Lady's first" he said but Valerie didn't move from her spot.

He smiled, understanding why she was acting this way. "Okay then let me go in first" he went in and Valerie followed him then he closed the door gently.

The first sight that welcomed Valerie was the good looking dish on a table. She hasn't eaten since morning after he dropped a plate of food and she just realized that she was hungry after seeing the new set of food staring at her.

Haunter chuckled. "You can go ahead and eat, it's for you anyways"

Valerie looked at him, she wondered why he was helping and being nice to her but she was hungry so she took her seat and began eating. She ate so fast like this would be the last time she would taste something as nice as this, stuffing her face with the first dish her hands came in contact with while Haunter just watched her with a smile.

His smile only lasted for a second when he saw her eyes being wet with tears, the tears slipped and fell but she kept eating then before he knew it she began crying with a mouth full of food in her mouth. It was like she wanted to let everything out, the tears she had been holding with the thought of her family being away from her and Martin and how her life would be in the future was something she didn't want to imagine.

Haunter sighed and moved closer to her, he passed her that napkin that was on the table. She slowly collected it and wiped her lips not after swallowing the food she had in there.

"Talk to me" Haunter sat beside her.

"I don't know.. I don't know if I will ever see my family again.. I don't just know" she broke down into more tears. Haunter felt something strange within him. He lifted his arms up with the aim of consoling her by touching her shoulder but he just couldn't so he dropped his hands down.

Valerie continued to cry.

"I don't like it here, I want to be with my mother, I want to be with my sister and I didn't even have the chance to tell my brother goodbye before he died, I didn't have the chance to tell him how grateful I am to have him as a family and how much of the best big brother he is, I will never see him again, I can't believe he's gone!" She burst out into uncontrollable tears.

Bennett has always been there for all of them. When she was first brought to the family, he had welcomed her with a giant lollipop and when she didn't want to play, he was always persistent. He never failed to make her smile or laugh, anyone that lay a finger on her will get it from him even if he was not good at fighting. Bennett was a really kind soul that wanted nothing but happiness to reign in his family, he acted like their second father when their actual father was no more. He surely didn't deserve to die early, he didn't deserve it.

Valerie cried more as she remembered all these.

"Just let it out, you'll feel better if you do," Haunter whispered to her.

All he did was to watch her as she cried her eyes out, it took almost a long while before she calmed down.

"Here" he passed another napkin to her and she accepted it.

"Why are you nice to me? Everyone here is rude, I do get kicked or slapped or yelled at but why are you so gentle, are you always this kind or do you have a plan?" She narrowed her eyes at him while cleaning her face with it.

"No I'm not always gentle and I don't have any plans, it's just that I know that feeling of being separated by your only family, by the ones you love, I know your brother and thou we haven't talked before I could tell that he was a very nice soul, it's such a shame" Haunter shook his head.

"A really big shame and there's no going back. The least I can do is to help my sister and mother so they won't end up like Bennett" she muttered in a sad tone and suddenly yawned.

"If you're tired you can use my bed" he smiled.

"Really? Where will you sleep then?" She asked him. Her eyes were already drowsy, showing the sign of tiredness.

"I won't be around tonight, I will be going for a mission with Martin" he replied and her eyes cleared up a bit.

"Martin is leaving again?" She asked.

"Hmm, he might take a couple of days off this place again. Just behave and do whatever you're been asked too, don't cause trouble in other not to get into any trouble with Martin, he's short tempered but you can rest assured that he don't hit women but that doesn't mean he won't ask someone to do it for him" Haunter told her and she simply nodded.

"Good night, I'll be leaving now" he smiled at her and stood up then left the room.

The moment the door went shut, Valerie stood up and walked over to the bed, just staring at it was making her feel sleepy even more. She remembered how she slept on the dirty floor these past days and she sighed before climbing the bed.

It didn't take up to a second before she closed her eyes and dozed off.
